KIOSK STUDY
Introduction
The report is prepared for performing a feasibility study for implementing self-service
kiosk in a local public library such that the patrons can check the availability of books and avoid
ques for checking the details. The kiosk system can also be used by the local library for reaching
beyond the library hall by setting up pickup point and installation of the vending machines. For
the installation of kiosk system an operational feasibility is needed to be conducted along with
technical and economic feasibility such that the public library can gain maximum benefit with
the system and grow with new products in the current market place.
Operational Feasibility
Automation has increased in each of the field and thus it becomes necessary to provide
the customer an advance experience and satisfaction in the public library also. In the current
library environment most of the libraries are adopting online transformation and allowing the
users to use ebooks, video materials, etc. Thus with the awareness in advanced technology the
implementation of the kiosk system helps in automation of the routine task and implementing an
approach for conventional library management system and improve the customer experience
(Wales, 2015). It would allow the user to find the ebooks available and the current validity of the
user account from the self-serviced Kiosk system and increase the usability of the system. A
simple navigation and touch screen interface is needed to be used that can be used by simply
touching to enter into different menus and gain advantage over the traditional library
management system (Makhija & Chugan, 2016).

Technical Feasibility
The technical analysis is performed for understanding the design and best practices that
are needed to be followed for the development of the Kiosk system. The patrons using the
system would login using the bar code printed in their library card and their can select the books
and items from the kiosk and generate receipt from the system on performing checkout (Chhetri
& Thakur, 2019). The problems with the use of the system such as receipt may not be generated,
or non-availability of the book, etc. is needed to be eliminated. A proper message is needed to be
displayed to the user directing them to the final stage or check out stage such that the user is
provided with virtual assistance and service (Muhammad, 2018). A distributed environment is
used based on the different geographical location for processing the data and software that are
needed for running the kiosk service.

Use Case
Economic Feasibility
For analyzing the economic feasibility of the implementation of kiosk system in public
library a survey is needed to be conducted for getting relevant data such as site location,
attractiveness and issues with the system. The cost of development and the operational cost of
the system is needed to be considered such that the kiosk can be successfully deployed (Hazarika
& Ravikumar, 2019). A time frame and expected return from the system is evaluated depending
on the future value for the project for getting the desired result. Certain assumptions are made in

terms of economic feasibility, total project cost, total earnings, cost benefits and risk factors for
the deployment of the kiosk system.
Conclusion
From the above report it can be concluded that for the development of the kiosk system
for the public library it is important to perform an operation, technical and economic feasibility
such that the risk associated with the application of the system can be eliminated. An evaluation
is needed to be made on the current needs of the user and the problems faced by the while
accessing the services and options provided by the public library. A simple interface is needed to
be used with touch screen such that it can be used by the user for improving the customer
experience. With the introduction of the kiosk system it can help the librarian to reduce their
work load and manual operations needed for issuing books to a patron.
