Every individual learns from life time experiences and events. There are several
chances to make use of the moment and turn everything favourably. These chances or
opportunities stay not for long but decent period of time. It is the unexpected happenings or
events that spellbinds us into the newer or unexplored moral aspects of life.
Following to the understanding, the essay provides an instance of such event that has
effectively changed my life within a framework of personal tone or narrative tone. The paper
focuses on the event that based on my childhood experiences and also provides the effective
changes that was introduced right from the very day of that particular event.
Back in my childhood days, I always preferred to remain engaged at my own
interests. Thereby, I never had any best friend in my childhood. However, the main reason
behind this was I was often bullied for being unsocial and boring. Following to such
environment, I happened to repel almost everyone as I believed that there are no such good
people who is genuinely honest and kind and pays respect to others. However, I had one thing
to look forward and do best in order to prove myself that I am no less than any mates in my
class that is, swimming. Swimming has been the only reason to look at myself with pride. I
brought many achievements and awards to my school through interschool competition. But in
the year 2009, I was diagnosed for having chronic asthma. Though I was worried regarding it,
yet I did not pay attention towards the issue because all I wanted was to win in the upcoming
interschool swimming competition. My focus was to soar high with pride, proving other
classmates that I am superior. This does sound like a notion of selfishness and it developed
from the extreme competitiveness and pressure in the environment. Like any other
participants, I was determined to win the interschool competition of swimming. But
unfortunately the event has turned up to be the day that changed everything in my life
including my perceptions and beliefs towards my classmates. During that competition, I faced
issues in breathing, however I ignored as I was determined to win. The moment when the

competition began, I happened to lose my breath after covering few meters. I could see my
competitors moving ahead of me. The thought of being in the phase of denial and being
behind, weakened my strength and potentials towards the capability of acceptance. I was
struggling to gather up my mind into the competition, but my body was shrinking due to the
pressure of the water thrusting against the skin of my body. I wanted space, needed time to
breath. I was in a helpless situation and suddenly found myself to be drowning deep.
Everything turned black and I could feel the horrifying view of loneliness and the realization
for not guiding myself with right attitude towards life and people around. I could feel the cost
of being unsocial.
However, after one hour, I found myself alive and the surprising part was that it was
the competitors who quit their competition and chose to save my life. That very moment, had
changed my perspectives towards people and helped me embraced the quality of dealing
every harsh situations and encourage the positive values among the people around me. It also
helped me understand approaching towards someone for good reasons is not an act of
passivity or weakness. It is the initiation of uniting people around. The more one selflessly
gives their hands, life in return gives them lot of love, priceless friendship and strength of
togetherness.
