INTRODUCTION
Life Without Barriers is a well-known Australian non-government charitable organisation
that is aiming at providing a range of support services to people of all ages and abilities. The
current report comprises of demonstrating knowledge and ability in identifying a relevant NGO
in rural and remote context of Australia (Pande & Pande, 2021). Beside this, a critical review of
the vision, mission and historical overview of the selected organisation has been also made.
Critical review of the needs of community setting and response made on them has been also
included in current report.

Knowledge and ability in identifying a relevant Non Government organisation in a rural, and
remote or regional context in Australia or beyond
Many non for profit organisation are working and engaged in the effective administration
and other programs and services to meet the basic needs of people especially in the rural and
remote community. It has been seen and observed that the local people who are living in the rural
and remote community are deprived of the many basic services and thus face many barriers and
issues in having education, medical facilities and proper source of income along with the high
level of poverty (Vergani & Navarro, 2021). The list of NGO which are currently operating and
working in Australia for supporting better meeting of needs and providing basic services to
people living in rural and remote community of Australia of listed as below:
Action on Poverty- It is an independent and secular non for profit organisation that is fully
accredited by the Australian NGO and was founded in the year of 1968. The main aim and focus
of the Action on Poverty organisation comprises of empowering the local people and
organisation in most effective and efficient manner and aim at eliminating poverty from
grassroots level (Kakani & et. al., 2021).
Act for peace- It is an international aid agency of the national council which works under
the advises of the Minister for Education. The main aim and purpose of the Act for peace
organisation is to ensure curriculum and assessment for early childhood education, primary and
post-primary schools. assessment procedures used in schools and examinations on subjects
which are part of the curriculum.

Life without barriers- It is an Australian Non-government charitable organisation that is
working for providing and supporting services for the local people of all ages and abilities. It aim
at focusing on the youth justice, mental health and housing support for those experiencing
homelessness (LIFE WITHOUT BARRIERS, 2021).
For current study, selection of the Life without barriers organisation has been made
which is seemed most relevant organisation in a rural and remote or regional context in Australia
that is supporting serving of all the basic needs of the local people comprises of justice, health
and housing facility (Smith, Neale & Weir, 2021). Selection of Act of peace or Action for
poverty organisation has been not made as it keeps on focusing and emphasising only on some
selected parameters of needs and wants. Along with this the selection of the Life without barriers
is also made the justification as it supports the meeting of the most basic needs of an individual
that consists of justice, health and shelter for homelessness.
The vision, mission, and historical overview of the Organisation.
Life without barriers is mainly associated with the offering of the services that are focused
on the equal youth justice, maintaining mental health and supporting housing facility for those
experiencing homelessness. The main vision, mission and historical overview of the selected
organisation has been provided as below:
Vision
The vision statement of the Life without organisation is, “To develop communities where
disadvantages of the people are challenged with the main aim and focus of empowering the
vulnerable and deprived people (LIFE WITHOUT BARRIERS, 2021).” Thus, the programmes of
the Life without barriers organisation is based on platform of innovation and strong leadership to
encourage vulnerable community of Australia.
Mission
The mission statement of Life without barrier is, “To support the vulnerable and
marginalised people to enhance their ability to reach their full potential level.” Thus, the Life
without barriers emphasis on strong relationship and meeting the local resources through
connecting world with the key services and potential of the local community (Pandey & et. al.,
2021).
Historical overview

Life without barriers tend to have a string history that defines its focus and determination
for creating a better future for rural and regional community. Life without barriers was build by
the Ray Dunn as a small disabilities agency in Newcastle to a national provider of social
services, as its chief executive office and from the last 25 years it has challenged the traditional
ways of doing charity and leads to a courageous family that supports and encourage people to
meet their basic needs. Relationship is the first and foremost value of the Life without barriers
and Claire Robbs is its current CEO. Further, at present Life Without Barriers is operating as an
unlisted public not-for-profit organisation that is aim at providing services for people with
disabilities along with helping out young people experiencing difficulty, aged care, people with
mental health issues, asylum seekers and refugees (Sabzi Khoshnami & et. al., 2021).
The needs of the community setting and appropriate responses developed by the Non
Government Organisation
The basic needs of the community setting are provided as below along with analysing the
appropriate response that are developed by Life without barriers to supports and meet that need.
Safety against domestic violence- Domestic or family violence comprises of abuse and
maintaining power and control by the one person (mainly males) that give courage to abuse the
other who tend to live in fear including physical and mental injuries. The Life without barriers
focuses on creating social justice and equality by the way of providing proper counselling and
relationship advice. Further, finical assistance and immediate and safe accommodation for
women who are suffering from domestic violence is also lead out by Life without barriers as an
appropriate response to ensure safety and equality for all (LIFE WITHOUT BARRIERS, 2021).
Medical and health facility- Having assistance to medical and health facility is a basic
need of all individual to ensure their long term health and fitness. The Life without barriers has
launched many programmes and schemes to support the medical and health facility of local
community in context of Australia as well as around the world. Extended Transition Support
(ETS), Continuity of Support (CoS), National Psychosocial Support Measure (NPSM) etc. are
provided and launched by the Life without Barriers to give the psychological supports service
and meeting the mental health outcomes of rural and regional community (Cauchi & et. al.,
2021).
Housing and accommodation needs- The issue of homeliness and people without proper
shelter has been continuously rising within the rural and local areas of the Australia. Thus, many

efforts are being taken by the Life without barriers to meet the housing and accommodation
needs of rural as well as regional community. Creation of ARYA house is made by Life without
barriers as an appropriate response to meet the housing needs which provides safe environment
and overnight accommodation along with two nutritious meals per day and other services.
Education and enrichment – It is essential for Life without barriers company to focusing
on education and enrichment practices as this will lead to have major and crucial impact on
individual life. It is important that all individual have right and accurate education as this will
majorly affect their future and career growth. Education play important role in gaining right and
appropriate information about the different aspects and it will influence the way person in
performing task (Hummell & et.al., 2021). Life without barriers needs to support people by
providing right quality of education so individual have capability to read, write and understand.
This could be considering as one of the essential needs which should be within an individual for
conducting required set of practice.
Thus, Life without barriers is appropriately focusing on supporting enrichment activities
for an individual as this will assist in improving the quality of life of a person. Through these
practices Life without barriers organisation will be able to meet with different needs and
requirements of the people as well as able to improve standard of living of individual. So this is
crucial that education and enrichment activities are conducted by Life without barriers
organisation for successfully dealing with the several issues of society and its individual.
Demonstrated ability in critically analysing a relevant theory identified in the prescribed
literature that has direct synergies with Organisation perspective.
Maslow’s hierarchy of need is one of the effective theory that is able to provide information
about the different needs of an individual. Through this theory it has been analysed that
individual needs lead to have major impact on person capability as well as potential to conduct
required set of task in significant manner. It is crucial that different needs of a person in
successfully full filled in order to motivate them as well as encourage them to accomplish
desired objective (Ratnasabapathy, Alashwal & Perera, 2021). This theory of need was
developed by Maslow in year 1954 and the motive of creating this theory is encourage and
motivate them to carry out required set of activities in effective and efficient manner. Through
this theory it has been determined that there are five type of needs of a person which needs to be

successfully and correctly full filled in appropriate manner. Different types of needs are mention
below in detail –
 Physiological needs – This is consider as the first and basic needs of a person which
needs to be timely full filled for the survival of a person. Physiological needs are consider
as the biological requirements of a person such as food, water, shelter, sleep and so on. It
is important that Life without barriers organisation is focusing on meeting with this need
of a person.
 Safety needs – Once the basic needs has been full filled it is essential for Life without
barriers company to focus in meeting with safety needs of a person. This includes
personal and financial safety form any kind of issues and dangers. This needs could be
full filled with the proper police, medical care and protection to people.
 Social needs – It has been analysed that individual wants to be feel loved and belonged to
the society. Life without barriers needs to carry out several activities with the motive of
meeting with social needs of a person (Hirschfeld, & et.al., 2021). Social needs of an
individual includes family, friends, relationship and so on. all of these are the crucial part
of an individual as this support in enhancing life or attaining desired goals.
 Esteem needs – This needs includes the self worth, respect as well as need of
accomplishment. It is important that individual is able to full fill the esteem need so that
desired objective could be successfully attain. Life without barriers needs to assist person
in attain esteem need by mastery, independence, increase in status as well as prestige.
 Self actualization needs – This is consider as the last need of an individual and in this
need Life without barriers needs to focus on self fulfilment of a person for successfully
meeting with this need. During this stage individual realise their self worth as well as
focus on attain personal growth and development.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of current study, a conclusion can be made that many non-government
organisations are working to meet the basic needs and services requirements of the local rural
and regional community. It has been also find out that the developing community and mitigating
the disadvantages of the deprived and vulnerable people is the main vision of the NGO. Along
with this, a summarisation can be made that the Safety against the domestic violence, medical
and health facility, housing and accommodation needs along with education and enrichment are

the main needs of the community setting. Finally, a summarising can be made that many
programmes are launched by NGO to effective responded and meet the needs of community
setting.
