Introduction:
The assignment is about to design, operate and maintain a selected sustainable engineering
project. the theme of the assignment is to manage a professional engineering project in
different roles. Select the “Light Meter” as the topic for the current project and create the
project in different phases to get the suitable outcome. Create the project management plan,
logbook and performance review for the evaluation of the project in this assignment. the
project is about the light meter that is a device that used to read or measure the intensity or
amount of light. The first section of the assignment creates the project plan based on the
selected project and conducts the different activities in the second part of the project using
suitable software. Design different samples in the assignment to get the output with analysing
different phases and provide a presentation in the final section of the assignment.

Sustainability:
The word sustainability refers to the meet with the current own requirement of any project
without remember the future requirement of the next generation that needs to meet with the
project or required for the project. It's related to both natural resources and economic
resources not only with environmental. Basically, sustainability has three main phases or
types that are, environmental, society and economy. the environmental related to keep
balance the natural resources and control the human’s consumptions on them. The economic
sustainability needs to keep balance the financial resources as well the interaction and last
one, social sustainability is about human rights and necessities and to protect labour and
cultural rights (Mcgill, 2019).
Sustainability in the electrical or electronics industry is related to the renewable electricity to
save energy for the future. Make energy policies for renewable energy technologies with
environmental fiscal reform that helps the government and other organisations in the
sustainable electricity system. it is required to have two basic terms in this area, these are
producing energy and energy conservation. The concept of the sustainability energy
framework works on the three major concepts as accessibility, availability and acceptability.
These three factors work on different criteria for the energy sustainability area as buy energy
on affordable price, provide good energy services, quality of supply should be good and safe
(Vithayasrichareon, P., MacGill, I. and Nakawiro, T., 2010).
Select the Light Meter as the engineering-based project that has the goal to check the
intensity of the light source. The light meter used in the area of photography for the proper
exposure as well as in the area of science design and cinematography to find the level of
optimum light for the scene. Two kinds of the light meter are used as, reflective light meter
and incident light meter. These are also the two ways to use a light meter as the DSLR used
to measure the reflected light that hits the subject and reflect towards the camera. The light
meter has different types that use for different purpose as, in the camera, handheld and in I-
phone (Donner, 2014).

The goal of the report is to develop a project on the Light meter with its essential design that
used to measure the light of the source. Light intensity sensor is the major component
required for the project of the light meter. Along with the light intensity sensor,
microcontroller development board and LCD are other components that used to measure the
degree of intensity.

The logic behind the selection of the topic, a light meter is that it is widely used with easy to
use common equipment that is easy to understand and learn the concept of the light meter.
Start the project to measure the Lux intensity, foot candles and Watts/m2 units. Some major

components that are required to create the digital meter with using Uno32 and others like,
Uno32board, basic input/output shield and BH1750FVI digital light sensor and a set of wires
with a breadboard.
Use the sensor or datasheet of BH1750FVI to measure of detecting the intensity of the light.
This is the IC with a digital sensor that used to convert the intensity of light into the 16-bit
digital number as 0-65535.

The setup of the circuit uses the header jumpers JP6 and JP8 on the board and place within
the position of RG2 and RG3 for the operations of I2C. here is the connection image of the
BH1750FVI as below:

Create the setup for the digital light meter with the firmware that used to display the intensity
of light on the OLED screen of input/output shield. Display the library of the input/output
shield. Here is the final picture of the light meter as:

Create the CAD drawing of the light meter on the Auto-cad software with using different
components that display in the image as Ammeter, GND and 12-volt battery.

P2 Create a project plan for the engineering project
Follow a project plan to create and make a successful project. here are some basic steps that
used to implement in the project to make it successful.
 Project conception and initiation
Start a project with define a goal of the project that should achieve on each phase of
the project accordingly. These different phases of the project are also known as
business cases. Define the stakeholders to complete the project in given time and
budget as per their skills and requirements. create the project initiation document or
the project charter to define the purpose of the project with the project requirements.
 Project planning Definition and planning
The planning of the project includes different phases as budget and scope, Gantt chart,
WBS (work breakdown structure), risk management and communication plan. Follow
the SMART goals to complete a project with successfully as, specific, measurable,
attainable, realistic and timely.
o Define the scope of the project with the benefits, deliverables, objectives and
milestones of the project.
o Show the work breakdown structure as the visual representation of the project and
the milestone of the Gantt chart.
o Display the communication plan of the project that is useful for the stakeholders
and help to create a project schedule to deliver the project successfully.
o Create a risk management plan with the cost estimation, customer review cycle
and changing of the requirements.
 Project execution or launching
Create and execute the quality project and keep tracking the further process for future
updates. This phase mainly includes team development, resource assign, execute the
project management plans, manage the project execution and set up the project
tracking system.
 Project control and performance
Measure the project performance with the budget and schedule and track the quality
deliverables of the project.

 Project closure
Close the project with the documentation process as well as the reporting process
(Eby, 2018).
M1 Undertake a feasibility study to justify project selection
Select the project of the light meter with thinking about different factors like budget,
technical, legal, learning, understand and knowledge. As the light meter use widely in a
different area of life and people who relate to the project, learn different things. The tools
used in the project of the light meter are easily available as well as the technology. These are
the different factors to select the project of the light meter.

Create and show the project plan of the current project including all activities and phases with
start and finish dates. The project plan created on the software name as, Microsoft project
management with the proper work breakdown structure.

M2 Explore alternative methods to monitor and meet project milestones, justify
the selection of the chosen method
Select the MS project management software as the method to monitor the complete phases of
the project with control over the project. this software is also helpful to create the project
milestones as well as to manage different phases of the project. here are also some methods
or software that can use as the alternative of the MS project management like, ProofHub,
Scoro, teamwork project and many more. Each of the software has some limitation with
limited features, only MS project is the best option to create the project milestone and project
management.

LO3 Produce a project report analysing the outcomes of each of the project
processes and stages

Create the MS project on the MS project management tool that includes different phases of
the project and here provides details description of each phase of the project. This detail
description is also known as project logbook.
