The short film ‘Lights Out’ released in 2013 starts in a material manufacturing plant
with a worker named Esther experiences an outline of a lady when the lights are off, but cannot
see it when the lights are on. In the very first sequence the director has showed his immense
control over camera.
A brief time afterward, a youthful lady named Rebecca is called into the school nurse’s
office since of her brother, Martin. Rebecca tells the official Sophie has discouragement, and is
taking antidepressants. Rebecca too tells the official that Paul was her stepfather, which her
genuine father ran absent when she was a child (Dancyger 247).
Use of camera work in the scene where Rebecca and her boyfriend, Bret, take Martin to
Sophie’s house to tell Rebecca that Sophie has been talking to a lady named “Diana” is
exceptional. Rebecca guarantees Martin that Diana isn’t a genuine individual, which she had too
listened Sophie conversation to the fanciful Diana when she was a child. Rebecca gets in a
contention with Sophie when she realizes her mother isn't taking her medicine, so she takes
Martin to her flat so he can rest. In the first camera shot, the shot of the house was established

sufficient to hurt her. The officers free Martin and Rebecca from the storm cellar, as it were to be
killed by Diana. As she climbs the stairs to recover her mother, Diana tells Rebecca that she
murdered Rebecca’s father a long time back. As Diana plans to slaughter Rebecca, Sophie shows
up, with a weapon from one of the dead officers (Lefevere 178).
Observation:
Overall it’s a superb exciting horror movie that relies as much on framing emotional bonds as
supernatural suspense to create tension. The editing and use of camera work in the short film has
made it worth a watch.
