INTRODUCTION
As every business organisation requires a proper management in order to work in an
effective and efficient way. There are various challenges for the people in order to perform their
task which need to be delimited in order to achieve the goals and objectives in an effective and
efficient manner. The people management is related to the various task where the managers need
to perform in order to function in an effective manner. There are various responsibilities of line
managers in order to manage the people and their performance within the business enterprise.
The organisation which is chosen for this report is Tesco which is the multinational retailer
brand. This company is situated in England. It is known as the third largest retailer in the world
which is measured by gross revenues. (Liao, L. and Ai Lin Teo, E., 2018). This report will
include the various topic such as issues faced by the line managers related to people
management, the various knowledge and skills required in order to be effective people manager
and at last various HR processes which undergo the performance management.
MAIN BODY
Current issues facing line managers relating to people management
It is identified that the line managers face several issues relating to the people
management where they ned to focus on the different strategies in order to eliminate the
challenges. It is identified that every organisation need to have challenges in order to achieve the
goals and objectives in an effective manner. There are several issues which are discussed below:
ï‚· Uncertainty of the future- It has been identified that the managers are not aware of the
future which is the major issue in order to manage the people in an effective and efficient
manner. The people management is very important for the organisation and where the
managers are unable t analyse the future trend in order to work according to it. This is the
issue which is faced by the line managers where the after the pandemic this is concerned
as major issue in order to manage people from the different locations. (Varma, A.,
Dawkins, C. and Chaudhuri, K., 2022)
ï‚· Well being of employees- This is the another issue which has been identified where the
managers are not able to analyse the ways in which they can support the people in order
to work in an effective an deficient way. This is the major issues faced by line managers
are the people are working remotely post pandemic which has created issues in not being

attached to the employees. The managers are not ware of the well being of people as they
are not connected to each other.
ï‚· Shaping company culture- This is the another issue which is faced by line managers
where they are not ware of the culture of the organisation. This is the most important
which can be challenging for the managers as the culture of the business organisation
might not be in favour of employees which can affect their behaviour and performance.
ï‚· Lack of communication- This is considered as another challenge for the line managers
where the effective communication is important between the employees and managers.
This is the issue because every team has a different personality and different perspective
can change the ideas and minds set of the people which can be difficult in communicating
by the managers to the employees. (Molinaro, and et.al., 2019)
ï‚· Time management- This is the another challenging for the managers in order to manage
the people within the organization. It is very important that the managers need to manage
time in order be an effective manager for increasing the productivity and performance of

It is very important for the managers to have knowledge , skills and behaviour in order to
be an effective people manager for the business organisation. This is most important in order to
manage the task and performance of employees in an effective way in order to be effective
manager and achieve the goals and objectives. There are various skills, knowledge and behaviour
required which are discussed below;
Knowledge
It is very important for the manager to have a knowledge of the basic human resource
management which is essential in order to manage people in an effective and efficient way. The
knowledge of the various activities and how understand the human nature in order to make the
task complete within the limited time period. The knowledge of the organisation is the most
important so that the manager can guide the people to perform task. There are various aspects
which need to be accomplished by the manager such as a good decision maker, plan in an
effective way.

task. The clear instructions which need to be given to the subordinates need to eb specified so
that they can perform task in an effective manner. It is very important that manage focus on the

Trust- It is very important that the manager have trust on the subordinates so that they can build
string relationship within the organisation. This is most important to manage people in an
effective way. If the manager has trust on its subordinates so that their morale can be increased in
order to achieve the goals an objectives in an effective way.
Patience- this is the another skill which is required by the people manager where it is very
important that the manager has patience in order to conduct the different task in an effective way.
Problem solving skills- this is the important skills which is required by the people manager
where the manager need to focus on the problem solving of the people. As within the
organisation there are various problems which has been faced by the people in order to perform
the task. It is very important that the manager focus on the solving problems of the people.
Ability to listen- This is the another skill which is required by the people manager in order to
manage people in an effective way. This is the most important skill where the manager need to
have a ability to listen to its subordinates in an effective and efficient way.
Behaviour
It is identified that in order to be an effective people manager it is very important that the
people manager need to e soft and kind with the people so that they can listen to their managers
in an effective manner. It is very important that the manager is able to behave ethically with the
people in order to motivate an support them. It is very important that the people manager is able
to support the employees in different ways. This can enhance in the performance of the
employees within the organisation in order to achieve the goals an objectives effectively. (Rizvi,
and et.al., 2018). it is very important that the manager have an open minded behaviour so that
people can be managed effectively. The open minded behaviour will help in understanding
people in an effective way.

It is very important for the human resource department to perform the various processes
in order to manage the people and their performance in an effective way. There are various HR
processes which are discussed below;
ï‚· Human resource planning- This is the most important and the first step which has been
conducted by the HR in order to plan for the achieving of the goals and objectives of the
business organisation. This includes the various activities which HR need to conduct in
order to manage people and their performance.
ï‚· Recruiting- This is the another HR process which need to be considered in order to hire
the fresh talent within the organisation. This helps in achieving the goals and objectives
in an effective way. It is very important for the managers to recruit the talented workforce
in order to achieve the goals and objectives in an effective manner. (Stewart, G.L. and
Brown, K.G., 2019)
ï‚· Selection- This is the process where the HR need to select the right candidate in order to
perform the different activities within the organisation. It is very important that the
selection is made with an effective way.
ï‚· Training- This is the most important for the managers and the HR to conduct the various
training and development programs so that the people of the organisation are motivated
in order to perform the different task within the organisation. This helps the organisation
in order to increase and develop the performance of the employees.
ï‚· Performance appraisals- This is the another most important HR processes which need
to be developed by the managers so that the employees are motivates. The performance
appraisals include the various aspect where the managers ned to appreciate their
subordinates so that they can increase their performance in an effective and efficient way.
ï‚· Employee relations- it is the responsibility of the managers to maintain the employee
relations where they need to maintain the trust and respect for employees ohs that they

organisation in an effective way in order to manage them and achieve the goals and objectives.
