Working at LinkedIn
LinkedIn is an American business organisation providing services in the field of
employment orientation. The main purposes served by the entity include professional networking
and allowing employers and employees to post about their jobs and CVs. It was founded in 2010.
Working Environment at LinkedIn
One of the unique features of the working environment at LinkedIn is the strong
commitment of the organisation towards its culture. Despite the growth and bad times faced by
the time company, the company has remained the same in all situations. People in LinkedIn tend
to work very hard because of the connection they have with the work they are doing. The
company tries its best to make people extremely happy in coming to their work places. The CEO
of the company conducts an all hands meeting where the information is provided about what is
happening in the company. This ensures transparency in the workplace. Personal benefits like
babysitters and gym memberships are provided to employees to ensure maximum comfort for the
employees.
Role of an Accountant
The role of an accountant as described by the business is extremely straightforward and
challenging in nature. Some of the roles expected of an accountant include acting as a financial
backbone of the entity and enable the daily business operations. Apart from this, other results
include furnishing strategies for the financials, maintain compliance with the regulations and
empowering the management with critical information about the performance of the business.
There are also a variety of accountants like Chartered Accountants, Tax Accountants and
Investment Accountants and their roles vary with the requirements of the business.

Skills required to work for LinkedIn
Some of the necessary skills essential to work for LinkedIn include sound knowledge of
accounting and basic knowledge of other finance fields like costing, taxation and investment.
Using specific software like ERP, Tally and a sound knowledge of accounting is essential for the
business. Good communication skills are essential in explaining the financial results of the
business to the stakeholders. The accountant is also required to stay up to date with the changes
occurring in the field of auditing and accounting.
Critical Analysis of own skills
Some of the skills and attributes which I have are the sound knowledge of accountancy
and the subjects of taxation and investment. However, there is a dearth of the software skills
required by the businesses and there is a need to learn the same. These will help me in
specialising in terms of the expertise possessed by me. There is also a need to work on my
communication skills to overcome the limitations caused due to improper communication.
Strategy to improve skills
The primary steps taken will be towards learning a management oriented software.
Certifications for these software are available online and through distance learning. Similarly,
personality development programmes will be attended to improve the written and speaking
abilities. These will then be included as a part of the CV to improve the employability of myself.
