Study skill for higher education is necessary for student in order to provide confidence,
competence and self- esteem. Present essay is based on challenges faced by student during
reading and learning in class also listening challenges is one of the major challenge that can be
faced by students in higher education. Further, explaining the how student can develop active
listening skills o that it help to overcome challenges while listening.

Listening challenges students may experience at university and how to develop active listening
skills
Active listening is help to promote mindful thinking that’s can reduce anxiety and
depression in student also it helps to build strong relationship because of engaging themselves in
conversation with professors and classmates’ s likely to open and interested (Abbasi and Shah,
2022). This is of the most common challenge that faced by student related to listening in class.
Student can improve their ability in order to focus on understanding by better communicator as
well as it help to build confidence to communicates with others. Due to lack of focus it can be
considers as one of the major issue faced by student also it can be impacted by not much focus
on class while teacher teaching or providing important information. As well as that kind of habit
are impact by not getting good marks in exam and not improving personality of student. That’s is
why there are different type of listening challenges faced by them at university (Anatolievna and
Nickolaevna, 2019).
Not remembering the information in class is major challenge faced by student at
university by not focusing on what professor taught in class. Also, might be possible that if the
topic is so long it cannot understand by student because it can be typical to track all the
information what they taught in class. Due to this issue student not able to remember the
information which topic were taught at starting the class and end of the class they forget about
the topic which is necessary to cover (Artyushina and Sheypak, 2018). This is not possible to
understand each and every words because it can be different according to sentence. In this type
of situation student get left behind trying to work out what does the previous word meant. At

university student getting half of the information which impacted by not remembering the
reliability of information in class.
There are student and professor are coming from all over the world in which people uses
different language and accent and due to this everyone has follow own language but accent
remain same in all the language. During the class if professor use another accent which has
increasing in speeds at that time student not able to understand the correct information in class
(Christensen, Freese and Miguel, 2019). Accent of speaker and rate of speed, impacted by
facing challenges in different way or not getting correct information while reading in class. This
is common challenge that can be faced by student in order to join college out of the country and
other region. Such as people who belongs to UK are using different accent of English as
compared to Indians at that time Indian students not able to listen in class while professor
teaching.
If student have poor vocabulary they face challenges for not understanding the language
properly as well as it might get problem because of vocabulary. It can be said that vocabulary is
one of the integral part of learning in any language also there are thousands of words in
vocabulary (Efriana, 2021). Student face challenges by not remembering the vocabulary
effectively by facing challenges in class. At university teacher using good level of vocabulary
which is not familiar to student at that time they face challenge by not getting active listening
skill. In addition to this, native speaker is not using their mother tongue. There is different
meaning of every sentence and word in English.
Less interaction, or lack thereof, with native speaker- It is necessary to regularly interact
with native speaker English speakers if student want to be fluent in English. This is difficult to
work on speaking skills without as partner that can cause problem in English learning.
Sometimes students are afraid of communicates with professor that become challenge for student
at University. That is why they face challenge regarding not understanding effectively as not able
to consult with professor to work on listening skill (Fatonia, Julyantoj and Azizik, 2020). It is
necessary to work on increasing the interaction in order to focus on facing less challenges related
listening. By making friendship with other are necessary to focus on improving native place

build confidences in order to communicates with others because less interaction impacted by not
able to make good relationship with others.
It can be said that there is external distraction faced by student while listening in class
because it impacted by divert attention as well as communicate with others. Also, physical
distractions can be noises of outside environment, noise from partition in the room and other
student are playing outside can distract student and they face listening challenges while attending
class. That’s kind of small distraction become challenge for student in order to understand the
chapter carefully (Gonulal, 2020). Also, due to this challenge student not able to make notes
which is necessary for them. If student of another class are playing outside those who are
attending class are not able to fully concentrate on what professor taught. Then, there are
different type of activities are played in class by which student might get distracted and
challenges.
Grammar is one of the important part of student learning in order to focus more on
remember English and main context of modules. Then lack of grammar knowledge become
challenge for student in order to not focus on what professor teaching in class. (Purwanto, 2020)
grammar is the way of arranging words in order to make sentences also it covers tenses and
verbs, noun and adverbs etc. This is necessary to focus in grammar because that kind of rule are
help for deciding the order which is putting for all the meaningful sentences and clear cut rules.
In listening this problem might get impact on grades in exam because at class student not able to
understand proper grammar (Inoue, 2019). The wrong meaning of sentence can be get wrong by
student in order to focus on another command.
There are different types of characteristics are used in spoken language because of my
memory limitation student face problem related to clustering in people down speech into
smaller group of work. In that kind of situation student not able to understand the proper
meaning of student which impact by managing clustering of words. In the redundancy or due to
rephrasing, repetitions and elaborations, characteristics are not able to understands by student in
order to focus on phrases and other words. Also, due to long paragraph student not able to focus
on what main motive behind listening skill (Purwanto, 2020). That’s is why it has been
suggested that it is important to focus on building good memory in order to focus on managing
clusters by their own.

This is one of the common problem faced by student while listening because when trainer
or lecturer come to college from other place they might uses another accent or rate of speed
which can be become challenge for student. It affects listener focus what they actually being said
and how brain makes prediction about the message based on accent instead of actually listening.
There is different type of challenges faced by student in order to focus on listening.
In order to overcome challenges, it has been said that student should develop active
listening skill such as maintaining eye contact with teachers help to communicate effectively.
Then it is necessary to pay more attention in class in order to focus on what professor are
teaching and it is also important to active in class while teaching by focusing on all the learning
outcome. This is also help to build confidence in student that help to become more focused in
class while teaching as well as during the placement that’s kind of skill are necessary so that it
help to become effectives listeners in order to makes sure to let know what they have been heard
and also encouraged them to share their thought and feeling independently (Spataro, and Bloch,
2018).
Be attentive in class help to listen properly in orders to focus on carrying out task so that
ensure about information which are related to better chance of retention in long term memory.
This is help to improve listening skill or respect to those who are taking to individual. In context
to capturing and maintaining student attentions it is necessary to focus on just important for
ensure about the student to get good grades. This is important to help by truly to learn by what
subject matter in class also prepare for skills.
Actively taking notes is one of the important skill that need for active listening skill as
well as it helps to actively taking notes during class in order to help out by focus on better
understanding of main concept. There is different type of topics covered by teachers at class so it
is necessary to taking notes of each of important topic which help for enhancing knowledge. As
well as this habit work for self- study in order to maintain notes for clear concept as well as it
help to provide better understanding of topic then it can be work in future while exam or other
situation. This is also help for improving listening skill by taking notes of all the important topic
(Efriana, 2021). Also, it helps to build the thought of making clear, concise and simplify work in
short manner. This is also help to improve the challenge of accent change of professor as well it
helps to build knowledge and understanding.

To improve vocabulary, it is necessary to improves vocabulary by focusing more on
active listening and understanding in class as well as it help to develop knowledge by learning
daily 10-15 words and revise again in order to learn about topic. by developing knowledge or
reading habit help to build easiest way in order to encounter words in context. Then by using
dictionary it is necessary to build reading habit of new words. This will help in class by listening
effectively and encounter new words and increase the ability of listening effective manner by
focusing more on developing knowledge and improving English effectively.
For student it is necessary to ask question to professor while they taking class or after the
lecture, this habit help to improve knowledge and clear doubt at the time which is help to active
listening habit also it is help for completing the assignment effectively as well as it can be said
that it build confidence by which student can getting good grades. Also, it shows attentiveness
and interest in all the situation which they can focus on learning (Zhang, Dai and Ardasheva,
2020). A good listener can always focus completely in orders to another situation as well as it
help to improve knowledge by engaging with different ideas and thought which help to enhance
learning. Further, good listener is ready to face any situation which can be help to build
confidence as well as it helps to improve their knowledge.

It has been concluded that listening skill is important for student in order to develop
knowledge and be attentive in class. Also, it can be said that there are different type of
challenges faced by student related to listening such ass accent and rate of speed of teacher, poor
