INTRODUCTION
Listening skill refers to the ability for accurately in receiving and interpreting messages which is
there in communication process. Listening refers to the an effective communication which
provide the ability to listen effectively and not taking the messages incorrectly. Learning is
higher important for better communication. This is the one which provide the ability to get the
message accurately that can help in delivering further resources. In this report, there is discussion
about different listening challenges along with their discussion about different strategy. This can
use by teacher for helping students in improving listening skill. There is also a discussion about
the listening challenges which is experienced and their strategy which can help to become better
listener (Khoshsima, (2017)).
MAIN BODY
Listening challenges used in the article
Understanding technical term- This is the challenge which is generally faced due to
listening when there is technical term used in the sentence. This can lead to divert the attention
towards the meaning of that sentence and impact on listening towards other sentence and this is
the challenge which should be improved.
Interpreting abbreviation and acronyms- This is also a challenge when any abbreviation
and acronyms is used during any sentence. This lead to create the attention towards interpreting
that abbreviation which has been used in the sentence and this can lead to distract from the
listening and focus on specific words which is highly challengeable (Azmi, (2017)).
Using of unnecessary words- This is the challenge to get the sentence due to unnecessary
using of unnecessary words. This create destruction from listening and losing interest towards
getting the message.
Strategy that teacher can use to help student in improvement in listening skills
There are different strategies that can used by the teacher for helping their student for
improving listening skills. There are some of the strategy which are going to be discussed
further.
Talk less- Most of the time, teacher like to spend year day by lecturing and talking to
student but listening the teacher doesn't mean that student are getting the actual learning. In this
case, there is no need to talk with student and listen to them more. This can help to make them

conscious and provide better focus on listening. There are different mini lessons student can
listen for shorter period of time. This can help them to talk more and when they start to talk
more, there is a process for which they need to reply and that can be achieved by listening. This
can help in provide them better listening skill (Meldrum, (2021)).
Get to know the students- In a research, it has been shown that students like to listen to
that teacher who have taken time to get to know them. Whereas, teacher was not get the time to
know them are not effectively listened by students. There is need to get to know the student but
teacher that can help them to make a better relationship with them. This can lead to provide them
effective listening and through this teacher is able to provide better listening skill to the student.
They like to provide such skill in effective way.
Using hand signal- This is one of the best strategy which can help to use the non verbal
hand signal. This can lead to create attention towards listening student are able to participate in
this when teacher use the sign language or other language. This can lead to make them attentive
in the lecture. For example- when teacher use the the statement and then prove that if a student
agree with their statement, show one finger and when they are disagree with this statement, show
two finger. Such like that, this can help teacher to get the attention of students. This can lead to
create better impact on listening skill and lives to enhance the learning a skill within students.
Listening challenge and strategy for improve listening
There are some of the listening challenges which has been experienced by a student along
with a strategy. This can help to become better listener the challenges and strategies are going to
discuss further (Whysall, (2019)).
Challenges
Distraction- This is the one which is highly affecting the listening skill of individual.
Distraction is the one which leads to to pull the attention towards different things, like nearby
people, towards the thinking about next meeting with some other things. Like this, this can create
distraction and create challenges for getting better listening skill.
Agreeing- This is the one which is able to avoid or stop the conversation which is going.
This can lead to create a challenge for better learning skill. Student may need to listen properly
and not avoiding the statement by agreeing. This avoiding the conversation for stopping it.

Get into a debate- This is the one which is one of the big challenge for listening properly.
This is regarding to debating on any issue. This create speaking instead of listening and due to
this, this is directly affecting on the listening skills (Innes, (2021)).
Strategy
Pay attention- This is the one which can provide undivided attention and can help in
receiving the messages and integrating this. This can help to look the speaker directly and putting
aside the disturbing thoughts and can help to focus on speakers for listening.
Provide feedback- This is also a strategy that can help a student for better listening skill.
This is judgement over the provided message and provide a feedback which can help to
reflecting what has been paraphrase. This can help in listening skill for the student.
Respond appropriately- This is our strategy which includes active listening for providing
understanding for responding appropriately. This can help in honest to the response and provide
the respectful opinion (Sraun, (2017)).
CONCLUSION
From above discussion, it can be concluded that, there are different challenges which are
faced during effective listening skills. There is discussion about the strategy which can be used
by teacher for improving listening skills. There is also discussion about the listening challenges
and strategy that can lead to improve listening skills.
