INTRODUCTION
In this modern and competitive world, use of technology has widen the scope and level of
new tools, applications, software. In this pandemic situations of COVID 19, many schools and
colleges have started using Zoom and online video learning classes. Learning ability are necessary
to use for these classes (Malinauskas, 2017). Main aim of this report is to understand the importance
of listening and communication skills of students. This report will give a brief knowledge about the
listening & learning skills which are essential in academic field. So, the topic is important to be
understood so that students are able to communicate with proper listening abilities.
MAIN BODY
TASK 1- ESSAY
Evaluate some strategies that students can use to improve their listening ability.
Listening skills are most important in both personal and professional context. Public
speaking is considered to be an essential ability for those who desire to advance their career in
business and professional field. But considering all noise concerning the importance of speaking,
listening is virtually ignored. It is as important as other skills because if the message which has
been given is wrongly communicated and not listen properly then problems might arise. So, during
this pandemic situations, schools have started taking online video classes for which it has become
important for students to develop their listening ability. This COVID 19 situations has locked down
all the colleges as well as schools & it has become essential for every students to take online classes
so that learning is done effectively (Rodrigo, 2017). Thus, there are many strategies by which
listening ability can be improved which are first one is to pick up key points & let the speaker
known what is done by individual in which it states that there are many people who do not pay
attention to speaker conversation & this leads to issues so students can make important points and
make notes for conversation which has been done. Then further strategy is to focus on signposting
language in which it is used by individuals to assist or directs listeners to examine and understand
what has been said (Dyches, 2017). Another strategy is prediction to content which is also ans
strategy which can be used by students as in this it activity which is carry out by learner to prior to
reading or listening t a text . Listening for a gist is strategy in which learners try to examine what is
happened even the phrases are not being understood. listening for details is also an strategy in
which it is kind of learning in which learner does not about the communicated passage or what
other credentials will be required to understand it completely. Inferring meaning is a strategy in
which clues or actions are used to analyse the message by others. For example- individual who is in

trouble will make sad face which is easily understood by learner. This inferring meaning is most
effect used strategy which can be adopted by student to improve their listening ability properly. So,
from discussed strategies, it is seen that students use various types of strategies in their Zoom online
video classes to improve their listening ability at all aspects. Moreover, it will be beneficial to have
proper mindset and awareness when communication is going on so that students are able to
properly. Evaluation- These discusses strategies are crucial for every learner to adopt because they
help in improving & enhancing listening ability at depth with new approaches which are beneficial
for future period of time. It is necessary for every student to be aware about such strategies so that
they can be used at optimum level (Bargal, 2018).
TASK 2 - REPORT
How can teachers help students understand their lectures? Make some recommendations.
In learning process of classes, it is important for teachers as well as students to assure that
learning & lectures are being carried out in proper way which is easily understood by students &
communicated by teachers as well. It is duty of teachers to assure that lectures are properly
understood by every student. The learning process could be improved and teachers can use many
techniques which are explained below-
Centred learning-
It is type of technique in which students and learners are focused towards each other and
shift is focused. In this technique student is being complete responsibility to develop own skills,
knowledge & understanding of things. Also, flexible relationship is maintained between both
teachers & students so that learning is carried out properly (de Oliveira Dias, 2020).
adapting the lecture to suit different learning styles (VARK)
It is most effective technique which is used by teachers to make students to understand their
lectures in which different styles can be used according to lectures by focusing on VARK
components. In this, it comprises of elements in which visual learners, auditory learners, reading &
writing and Kinesthetic learners are examined. By examining these learners different learning
styles are used by teachers (Kebritchi, 2017).
clear signposting
This is another technique which is adopted by teachers for their students in which it reflects
the direction of argument or in which words are used to make reader understandable about the
content properly. These are short and effective which can be adopted by teachers.

It is also being considered as important technique in which it is also known as CCQS in
which questions are designed so that learning improvement of a learner is checked properly of
particular language item. The questions are prepared by teachers themselves to examine, analyse &
check the grammar, words, function of a individual language. Through use of this technique, it is
easy to for teacher to determine the knowledge of a learner regarding the concept.
clear structure of lecture
It is first most strategy which is needed to be used by teacher because in this teachers makes
lectures more effective & simple so that they easily examined by students. In this, various types of
steps are focused such as setting goals of lecture, clearly revising the content, making PPT of
lectures, constructing logical flow of concept, practice for impact, insert real life activities,
examples, etc. This is an essential approach of making students to understand the lectures
appropriately (Pardosi, 2018).
Use of Intonation and phrases
Intonation are the kind phases also known as kind of tone units which are used by speakers
or teachers. Students has the habit of making notes & key points which are crucial for them to study
for their study. It is a process in which phrases are used in form of tone which such as saying things
properly instead of just saying things. By use of intonation by teachers, it will be easier for them to
get make them understand the clear meaning of their sentences or phrases what they are saying.
Also, making a pause at lecture is too necessary so that doubts can be asked by listeners in proper
manner (Manurung, 2020).
Empathy
It is approach by which learning can be understood by students when teachers shows
empathy. Through this method, teachers can increases flexible relationship between students which
also leads to increase in confidence to ask questions, enhanced motivation, encourages them to
improve on their own performance. Thus, empathy is needed to given to students so that they
actively take participate in lectures.
Identify and evaluate why these are important issues.
The issue which occurred during learning process are essential because they help teachers to
improve there way of teaching and deal with new problems which is beneficial for future context.
Thee are many issues which occur and are discussed below-
Communication-
This is most biggest challenge which is faced by teachers during both online and offline
teaching because listeners mostly are unable to understand the message which have been
communicated.
Improper time management-
Document Page
In this, issue there is lack of time management between both teachers as well as students
because error may occur when using zoom classes such as low network, dysfunctional of
technology or applications etc. This leads to difficult in managing time statistics (Tavoosy, 2019).
Recommendations
It is recommended that teachers should conducts communication programme so that so
communication is being carried out properly between both the parties.
Then, it is also recommended that there should be a proper prior detail of use of application,
network criteria so that students act accordingly.
Further, it is too recommended that revised classes are to be conducted so that students who
have problems can asked questions freely.
Moreover, in case of failure of applications alternative option is needed to be presented so
that issue do not occur further.
At last is to provide all backups for lectures which have been conducted online so that they
are usable by every one.

CONCLUSION
After a brief analysis of above report, it has been concluded that listening skills as well as
ability are necessary to be focused an improved. Without using them, it is not possible for anyone
to analyse what message has been communicated. So, discussions have been made about between
two parts in task 1 is essay format and task2 is in report format. In task1 listening strategies,
importance of topic is explained. Then, further in task 2 use of techniques by teachers in learning
process is discussed briefly. Thus, it is analysed that it is crucial for individual to improve their
