Phonological awareness is referred to development of spoken language’s several
phonological components. Students having strong recognition of phonological awareness when
the works rhyme. Word patterns and syllable are noticed by them. Phonemic awareness is
referred as knowledge of phoneme as well as ability of an individual in detecting, blending,
segmenting and manipulating sounds in the words (Carlisle, Thomas & McCathren, 2016).
Phonics is referred to teaching of applications of the letter-sound and patterns of letter for
spelling words. It assumes that phonemic awareness is there in student. Rhyming and sentence
segmenting are two examples which show progression of such literacy concepts.
Answer to Question 2
Concepts of print is referred to awareness of working procedure of print. It consists of
knowledge of concepts of books, written languages and print as well as how these work. This
encompasses several understandings which allow process of reading to occur which includes
understanding that a message is conveyed by the print, distinction among sentences, letters and
words, knowledge of alphabetic system as well as difference among words and letters and
knowledge of orientation of book as well as print’s directionality (Pilgrim, et al., 2018).
Recommended strategies to develop concepts of print are provide pictures of the things which
are liked by the children, particular words should be provided for the children and building
words by using familiar phrases, sentences and words.
