‘The sisters’ is written by James Joyce. He was an Irish novelist, teacher, poet, writer
of the short story, as well as literary critic. He was born in Dublin. He belongs to a middle
class family.
According to Joyce et al (2019), boy who is young has reflected on the awaiting death
of his friend named Father Flynn. They all known that after three massive strokes the
paralyzed minister has very little time in hand, the boy made a habit of walking in front of the
house of Father Flynn, has been looking for the light of the two candles of traditional type
that was placed upon a coffin which would point out his death. Each and every time the boy
was thinking about the word ‘paralyses’. One a particular night at his aunt and the house of
the uncle, the boy just arrives at evening meal for finding his uncle along with Old Cotter
who a family friend is sitting just next to the fire. The person named Old Cotter has come to
the particular house for sharing the news regarding the death of the Father Flynn. Everyone
knows that all are waiting for his reaction, but the boy chose to remain quite.
‘The sister’ is the opening story in the book from the collection of Dubliner, the story has the
newest hero, and it was showing him challenging straightforwardly for the very first time the
reality regarding death. The story has developed the archetypal motif of the particular search
for a father. The boy who is basically an orphan (lives with uncle and an aunt), are founded in
the priest a temporary father, the man is of very kind in nature who has teaches him about
several things, cherishing his intellect as well as preparing him for the purpose of the future,
yet the man named Father Flynn himself is an inadequate, eventually irrational, man and the
priest, who is not able to face his own inadequacies as well as faults and it will end up going
mad in his own confessional (Joyce, 2019).
