Discuss the reasons why logistics professionals might be concerned with theft and explain
how piracy attacks on ships are a serious issue for today's logistics manager?
Nowadays the logistics professionals are more concerned with the conditions of theft as the first
reason is that the theft results in the interruption of flow of goods which will lead to stock-outs in
the distribution channel, and the second one is that although the insurance companies will
reimburse the losses of the stolen items, but the time and the cost spent in the documentation
with the theft, will not be covered by insurance. (Watanabe,2017)in addition to that, the stolen
products will reappear in the market at lower prices , which will create the competition in the
market.
The piracy attacks on ships are the serious issues for today’s logistics manager as the impact is
directly reflected in terms of loss, which will be categorized into direct and indirect loss
(Bateman,2016) The direct loss includes the property loss , in terms of employees and ship loss
and the indirect loss includes the delay in the lead time and loss in the reputation of organization.
Discuss the concept of logistics social responsibility. What is the triple bottom line of
sustainability and discuss how the logistics function can contribute to the improvement of
the various aspects of the triple bottom line?
Logistics social responsibility is the activity which enables the organizations to take actions,
which are not only economic but also socially responsible in the area of operation.
(Glac,2017)The triple bottom line of sustainability is the accounting framework which is divided
into three sectors like social , environmental and financial, which helps the companies in
evaluating their performance. (Swanson,2018) The logistics function includes inventory control,

manage inventory, by keeping stock as per the wants of the customer, and transportation will
manage the bottom line by transporting the material on time to the final customers and the
information system will ensure that the desired information will be pass on to the consumers on
time , to improve the working of bottom-line.
