TOPIC: How to reduce teenage crimes and deaths on the streets of London
INTRODUCTION
The teenage is consider to be a age where children are getting more influence by the
people or their act which become a factor that spoil up their whole life. In London the cases of
teenage crime is increasing day by day due to misleading company that teenagers mainly get in
this age. This is considered to be one of the wider societal problem which is affecting the future
of many. These type of issues are mainly found among those young people who remains in a
disadvantaged areas, who are facing several social issues such as teenagers who are suffering as
a result of cut from their schools and youth services, that are being criticised, faced certain issues
that created anxiety, fear and anger among them regarding a particular thing, understandably
they feel disillusioned and though they have been adondend (LaFree, 2018). When there is a
disillusion occurs among the teenage, the youth crime mainly get space in their life which in turn
gradually increases and take up it into a big picture. Other than this there are certain factors that
are present within the environment or surrounding in which a child grow up also have a huge
impact over the path that teenager adopt. These mainly includes economic situation or poverty in
which a teenager is living, society to which they belong, their beliefs, attitudes, reactions, events
or behaviour that the people in society mainly follows. Other than this the family structure or the
upbringing they have affect a lot to their life. These all are the factors that provoke a teenager in
getting indulge with such practices or crimes (Weisburd and McEwen, 2015). It also increases
the risk of behavioural and mental health issues, victimisation and future violence, obesity, high
risk sexual behaviour, academic difficulties, suicide, murder, school dropout, depression etc.
There are number of criminal practices to which the teenagers mainly get involved which
in turn then further brings up several consequences. This is so because the crime affects the
people at all the level which also creates fear and anxiety which in turn further result into the
overreaction or victimization. This result into involvement of youth into bad, unethical a=or
illegal practices such as bullying. Fighting, gang related violence and threat with weapon. When
a teenager gets involved in such kind of criminal practices then it brings up a long-term impact
over the well being and health of the youngsters (Goldson and Muncie, 2015). This is so because
such practices have a lasting effect over the mental, physical and social health of the young
people which in turn may also leads to death of young people and also results into more than of
400000 nonfatal injuries every year among the teenagers. These types of youth violence mainly

go beyond the physical consequences. Therefore, the teenage crime is require to stop and to
determine the ways through which teenage crime of increasing death rate with these issues
current investigation is performed which in turn support in uncovering several factors that are
required to be consider in order to avoid such practices from society and provide teenager a
direction for better future.
DISCUSSION OF BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE OF RESEARCH 875
Background of study
In the recent past years a significant increase has been identified and analysed in teenage
crimes on the streets of London. The teenagers nowadays aggressively engaging in criminal
activities and sever crimes in London. Measures includes college students awesome graduates
who are still in there developing age sometimes students from high schools also involved in such
criminal activities. In the recent past years London have seen a significant rise in their cases of
knife crimes. Individuals for mostly in range in knife crimes are teenagers according to the
researchers and the data is collected (Marsh and Melville, 2019). Most of the times these
criminal activities are undertaken by students and teenagers with the motive of stealing money
and other valuable items of people. The report from different governmental and non
governmental institute has sited that drug dealing and social media is the key drivers and factors
of these criminal activities conducted teenagers and students as young as of 13 years old. There
are several factors and crucial elements which gives rise to such criminal activities in minds of
teenagers and young students. The most increasing and commonly known reason behind these
criminal activities is related with drugs either for dealing it or for consuming it (Cornell, 2017).
Teenagers are negatively moving towards wrong directions and indulging in such criminal
activities the steal money, deals drugs and sometimes commit murders for accomplishing their
goals and in the act of rage and nervousness. from different 8 hours charts and statistics it has
been analysed that the knife offences are aggressively increasing since 2011 till 2019. In 2011
there were around 25,000 to 30,000 of knife offences in front since then the number is rising and
rising and reached to approximately 45,000 cases in 2019. The Half of the knife crimes in
London are conducted by teenagers and young children. Officials and governmental institutes are
seeing and receiving a stock illustration of the scale of youth violence in London. Police statistics
show that 41% of offenders of knife crimes across the streets of London are close to the age
group of 15 to 19. It is very important for the country to reduce the teenage crimes and death on

the streets of London in order to safeguard their country and the future of their generations. In
London the statistics for knife crime reach and all the time highest digits in the last year when the
new data figures showed a total of around 15,000 search cases in the last 12 months of period.
The teenagers and young youth of country are considered as their future. There are several
different governments and non-government institutes established in London which are focusing
over the sole objective of reducing the teenage criminal activities in London. These institutes
gathering data and statistics for understanding the behaviour and mentality of teenagers who
indulge in these crimes for knowing and identifying the best solution for reducing these criminal
actions taken by students (Welsh, Farrington and Gowar, 2015). These institutions a focusing
over developing and creating awareness among the students and teenagers for making them
know about the drawbacks and negative impacts of these actions on their future and their careers.
The research report focuses over the issue of increasing teenage crime on the streets of London
and therefore concentrates it's finding over searching for the different strategies for reducing the
teenage crimes and deaths.
Rationale of research
The main purpose behind conducting this study is that researcher want to put light over the
intensity of youth crime and its consequences over them which is affecting eth future of the
country by taking it to the darker side. The major focus within the study will be put over the
major factors that are present within the society or environment in which youth lives and
confront with such kind od attribute that provoke them to get indulge in such practices. Other
than this it also represents the major consequences that it bring when the teenagers get involve in
various kind of criminal practices (Farrell, Tilley and Tseloni, 2014). By investigating about the
factors behind increasing death or criminal activities among the teenagers and consequences it
bring to their life the researcher want to grab the attention of people toward the severity of this
issues so hat they get influence to play their role in minimising such practices from their society
to provide it a better future. At last it present several actions that can be performed or taken into
consideration for minimising these issues.

OUTLINES OF METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is defined as that section of a research which mainly focuses
toward presenting the type of methods, tools, approaches and techniques that can be used by a
researcher for performing an investigation effectively. This is done by providing the idea
regarding the methods or tools used for collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting the
findings so that appropriate conclusion can be made out of available information regarding the
current area of research. It provides an assistance to the researcher regarding the set of action it
required to perform for conducting an investigation effectively. The tools and methods used for
performing this investigation is mentioned below:
Research philosophy: - It refers to the set of beliefs which contains the nature of
knowledge as well as reality that will be investigated by the researcher. The philosophy within an
6

investigation are of two type such as positivism and interpretivism. Among these two the
positivism philosophy will be considered for performing this investigation. This will allow the
researcher in conducting the statistical analysis of the collected information which further
support in getting accurate data regarding the research problem which further support in
providing the appropriate and valid conclusion out of the available findings.
Type of investigation: - It mainly involves the methods or techniques used for gathering
the evidences or data about a particular area of investigation that used later for uncovering the
information about a particular phenomenon. There are two methods of performing an
investigation such as quantitative and qualitative method of investigation. From these two the
quantitative method of investigation will be taken into consideration for executing this research
work. This is so because the quantitative investigation focuses toward gathering the numerical
facts and figures about certain factors, events or reasons behind the teenage crime and death
which support in getting most accurate data. The use of this method will support in presenting
the findings with more accuracy by aligning them with the set of facts or figures which depict the
validity of study.
Sources of data collection: - It is the medium that are used for gathering the information
about a particular area of study. Two sources of data collection are primary as well as secondary.
Among them both will be consider for this investigation which support in providing a basis of
comparison on previous findings as well as current information. This will be help in getting more
accurate outcomes. For gathering the primary information questionnaire will be used. Other than
this for collecting the secondary information online sources will be used where the view point of
several authors or scholars presented through article, journals, books etc. will be critically
reviewed to represent the better understanding about the area of study.
Research approach: This part of methodology is crucial within an investigation as it
help in analysing the collected data in order to convert it in more meaningful manner so that
appropriate findings out of available data can be presented. The inductive and deductive are two
type of approaches used within an investigation. Among these two the deductive approach will
be used to perform this investigation which support in analysing the numerical data, facts or
figures with an aim to represent the most accurate data about the problem discussed within
research.

Sampling: - It is about the method used for selecting a group of people who can provide
information about the current topic which is being under investigation. The sampling is mainly
performed with the help of two methods such as probabilistic and non-probabilistic method of
sampling. Both the methods are very much effective, but among these two the probabilistic
sampling method will be used. It is so because the probabilistic method put emphasis toward
choosing the sample size without any kind of bias behaviour as it provides equal chance and
opportunity to people consider within population for being selected. Under probabilistic
sampling method the respondents would be selected using random sampling process. Hence the
sample size for this study would be 50 teenage counsellors, social workers and family of London
that will selected as a sample size randomly using probabilistic sampling method.
Strategy for data collection: - This is considered to be a significant part within a study
that introduce main component used for a research project which mainly includes the tool or
proposed method used by the researcher to collect information for the study. There are number of
strategies that can be adopted for collecting information such as interview, questionnaire, survey,
case study, focuses group etc. For conducting the present investigation questionnaire will be used
as it is less time consuming which allows the respondents of the study to answer the available
question as per their; time and without any kind of pressure. Additionally, it also allow the
researcher in getting more concise and specific information within a particular format that easily
analyse the information and help in reaching valid conclusion.
DISCUSSION ON ETHICAL CONSIDERATION
Ethics are considered to be the moral principles which help an individual to get an idea
regarding what is morally right or wrong conduct. The ethical consideration within an
investigation mainly consists of some set of standards that are fixed which is required to be
followed within an investigation as it presents a proof that the data present in study is ethically
correct and doesn’t involve any kind of ethical issues. There are certain principles that will be
used by eth investigator for performing this study as it is based on social concern. The current
research is performed by using both the primary as well as secondary investigation so ethical
principles are applied to both areas. While performing the primary investigation, it is crucial fro
the researcher to ensure that the study must be relevant. Anonymity, informed consent and
confidentiality are some of the major principles that will be consider by the investigator while
performing this study. For gathering primary information from respondents, they are provided
8
Document Page
with basic information about the aim behind study will be presented with the help of informed
consent. Addition to this the confidentiality of the respondents would also be maintained where
the basic and personal information of the respondents would not be disclosed to anyone without
their permission as per the ethical principle of confidentiality. Other than this the data collected
for the investigation will be kept secure and not everyone get the access to this information and
only the investigator and its team mates will have this permission to access the data for keeping
the information secret and secure of respondents so that they don’t get harmed in any manner due
to becoming a part of investigation.
Despite of all this for performing the secondary investigation some of the ethical
consideration would also be applied by eth researcher in this study. Among that it will be assured
by the investigator that the data will be collected only from the authenticated sources so that only
the right and true information can be presented. Addition to this this will also be taken into
consideration by the researcher that only update information will be presented with the medium
of investigation and it will not involve any kind of data filtration and modification for making the
information more attractive.
DISCUSSION ON BIASES AND LIMITATIONS
The outcome of a study is heavily depending upon the manner in which a particular study
is conducted with real information and ethical practices. The current study is free from any kind
of biasness as the investigator put more emphases toward presenting the information without
being focused and getting favourable to any particular factor. Rather it considers all the factors
involve within eth study equally and presented information ethically. Other than this the current
study presented primary information where the respondents are selected randomly where each
individual considered under a population is provide with equal chance of being selected for the
study. This ensure that more genuine and truer infomrtaion can be gathered from these
respondents. Other than this for avoiding the biasness from the study the respondents are selected
using three background like counsellors, social workers and parents so that infomrtaion can be
presented from different perspectives. This in turn further help in assuring that the infomrtaion
presented must remain accurate and true to the concept as this topic of investigation is a social
concern topic and any kind of wrong infomrtaion may mislead people.
Despite of this there are certain limitation as present within the study which affected the
activities involve in investigation. The main limitation in this area is time, as the duration
9
Document Page
provided for the investigation was very much limited and the respondents that get approached for
this study was not much interest and comfortable in presenting information. This make it harder
for researcher to convenience them for providing information as it help in making people aware
about such kind of issues so that better precautions can be taken to deal with it. The main issues
which restrict the respondents to provide answer is that some of the parents actually don’t want
to reveal about the situation to which their teenage children are going through. Other than this
the social workers and counsellors are also not much interested to put the information of their
NGO in public about the teenage cases related with crime. This was the main limitation for this
study which affected the research practices of the investigator.
PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF GANTT CHART
The time is considered to be one most significant resource within an investigation as it
allows the researcher to decide the time period or duration in which they have ti accomplish
particular set if research objectives. For this purpose, Gantt chart is mainly used within an
investigation which is a pictorial representation of number of activities involve within a specific
research. With the help of Gantt chart an investigator can divide the whole project of a research
into some small activities or parts and can arrange it in systematic manner along with the time
taken by each activity. This graphical representation of research activities will support the
investigator in getting an idea regarding the activities must be performed and in what pattern so
that objectives of the particular study can be achieved within in specified time period. The Gantt
chart for current study of teenage crime and increasing death is presented below which depict
about the activities of research in sequential manner,

From the above presented Gantt chart it can be specified that the for setting up the aims and
objective for the study the investigator used the time period of 2 days, while they require at least
5 days to perform the secondary investigation or literature review. This is so because the
researcher required to evaluate larger number of articles, journals, books etc. that are based on
current study area and then extract out the most meaningful information which is appropriate for
this study. After gathering the secondary information the researcher will go for a primary
investigation where for gathering the data it will take around 10 days as it totally depends over
the respondents regarding the day in which they respond to it. This is so because the current
study is social concern where the identity of victims or culprit involve in such practices are
usually kept hidden. Therefore, it is quite difficult from the researcher to gather information from
those respondents much easily. Despite of this for the analysis, evaluation, assortment of data nd
11

presentation of findings the investigator will require the time period of 13 days so that most
appropriate and accurate finding can be concluded out of available data.
