Penn Foster: School of Sciences Infomercial Speech on Hearing Aid

This document presents three student speeches. The first is an infomercial promoting a new, low-cost hearing aid, highlighting its advanced features, affordability, and ease of use. The second is a persuasive speech advocating for the importance of voluntary work alongside studies, emphasizing its societal contributions and leadership development. PERSUASIVE SPEECH
In this persuasive speech, I will be emphasizing on the ‘importance of joining voluntary works alongside
our studies.' The audience I am addressing is composed of students from the School of Sciences.

Introduction
We all have taken admission in this academic course with certain dreams, and we work to fulfill those
dreams. We all study hard and leave no stone unturned to make our aspirations become a reality. But
have we ever wondered or asked ourselves, apart from this aim to prosper academically and may be
securing a fulfilling job in the future, how can we make a larger contribution to the society? Yes, despite
of being good students, we have a greater responsibility towards the society and the community
surrounding us and the world as a whole.
We are the future citizens of this country, and it is us who will make this world a better place to live, a
place where all human will peacefully co-exist. One of the most important aspects regarding this is that
students of today will be the leaders of tomorrow and we should always be prepared to lead from the
front and lead by example for our future generations. Students of today can make a difference with their
new and innovative thoughts. These thoughts can bring many new ideas of change. Through this speech,
I request from this knowledgeable audience to be a part of the change. You are here to be the change
makers, for the better. We may work as volunteers in any non-profit organization, as social workers or
volunteers and in this way, we can be the medium of change in a positive way. It is always easy to say, it
is also easy to plan. However, the real challenges come in the way to make the said things done and to
make the plan work and work successfully in realizing the goals. The goals are set with many steps; each
step has its obstacles, which are to be overcome to reach the goal.

All of us are born with some special inherent qualities. Some of us are great speakers; some are
exceptional writers, others may be excellent organizers. The fields of work we choose are also to a large
extent, related to the interest and qualities we have. During our studies, or vacations, we should plan
and choose an area where we can contribute the best. There are numerous organizations working for
older people, children, physically challenged people, on the environment and climate change, and so on.
These organizations always want to strengthen their manpower and are always on the lookout for
quality staff, dedicated volunteers, or even staff who can work during weekends only. It is my request to
all of you ,who are present out here, to get enrolled in any of the organizations of your interest and
serve the needy people and work for the change required. It is not at all difficult to get access to these
organizations, and they need the volunteers almost throughout the year, for many of their projects and
events.
Working for a cause, which is instrumental in bringing any change, will surely give you the satisfaction
that you are a part of that initiative, which has changed something. Your one action, one step will

motivate others in becoming a part of the greater revolution. No great thing can be achieved alone, and
a group of people with a common goal can reach any heights and achieve any goal. The value
empowering the passions of volunteers has been emphasized when it is stated that they have been
trusted and they have the opportunities to turn into better leaders. Their empowerment will remain
impactful for the society at large (Empower Their Passions, 2015).
Once we are convinced that we can make a difference, we should be relentless in our efforts to achieve
something meaningful. Our actions will not only give us a sense of satisfaction, but also this will be
inspirational for many others also.
Conclusion:
To conclude, I must thank all of you for being avid listeners to what I had to say and honestly and
sincerely request all of you to get involved in things which can bring hope in someone's heart and smile
on somebody’s face. The world needs people like you. People who feel that sharing is caring and are
happy to help others. If a small action from your side can make a big difference in someone’s life, you
should take that step forward.

REASONING SPEECH
In this reasoning speech, I will focus on ‘Restrictions on the Use of Firearms in the United States.’ The
audience I am addressing consists of students from the School of Sciences.

Introduction
In today’s world, in every civilized country, there exist certain pre-defined rules and regulations on the
purchase, possession, and use of firearms by the civilians. There are written rules in some countries,
while in others the rules have never been written and these have been followed throughout centuries in
unwritten form .Not only these rules are the benchmarks for the use of firearms, among all the things,
on the other hand, these are the sets of guidelines which put legal restrictions so that the firearms are
not misused or used beyond the permissible reasons. In the recent past, in the United States, we have
noticed several incidents of shooting through firearms in schools by the students or sometimes from
outsiders too. The question does arise as to how the students or the young people gain access to the
guns, whether these are easily accessible at their homes or they purchase using their resources and
contacts.
As per an estimate made in 2007, around the world 875 million small arms are possessed by the civilians
of which in the United States 270 million civilians possess small arms. In the United States, possessing a
firearm is considered as the basic right of civilians. However, on the other hand, it may be seen that the

first reported case of death due to shooting with firearms by student dates back to as early as 1840 and
the latest reported in May 2019 (“List of School Shootings”, 2019). In between, there have been number
of deaths in schools where shooting either was done by the students, indiscriminately on fellow
students or teachers.

Acts and rules in any field are the guiding stars for the civilians and policy makers so that state
machinery runs smoothly. The policies cannot be labeled as restrictions; rather these are aimed to make
the lives easy and systematic. However, in order to put a stop on violence in schools, certain restrictions
must be in place, especially on gun rules. As per the statement published in “Regulating Guns in
America: A Comprehensive Analysis of Gun Laws Nationwide”, the federal gun laws in the US have been
termed as “Incredibly weak” (2014). This statement indicates that there are scopes and avenues of
amending the existing rules, if the usage of guns in schools is to be stopped. The noteworthy suggestions
that have come up in the book are, background checking of all the gun purchasers and also reporting to
the law enforcement agencies if anybody’s firearms are stolen. This will help in keeping track of lost
firearms and trace the owner if these are used.
Whatever are the suggestions proposed by the law centers, if these are not implemented in letter and
spirit, then the objectives of such rules can’t be achieved. The need of the hour is to make stringent
rules to overcome this life-threatening problem. Parents are also needed to be more vigilant about the
activities and behavior of their children and consult the counselors if need be to avoid any untoward
incidence. Overall a concerted effort is required to control misuse of firearms.
Conclusion:
To conclude, I am deeply thankful to you for listening to my suggestions, ideas and reasoning, which will
be helpful to control and stop violence in schools. This can be done by students by using firearms. At an
age when the whole life lies ahead of the students, they can’t act like people with violent mentality who,
tend to harm their own friends, class mates or teachers. To find out the reasons why the students take
up such drastic steps, one must probe into the factors leading to such types of actions. A deeper
understanding of the reasons and actions which provoked such violent reactions will play its role in
stopping them from being violent, which consequently will save many lives.

INFOMERCIAL SPEECH
I am using this infomercial to demonstrate in front of you, a newly launched low-cost hearing aid device
which is much advanced and improved as compared to other hearing aids, and also financially affordable
to all. The audience I am addressing is composed of students from the School of Sciences.

Introduction
As per the reports of the World Health Organization (WHO), over 5% of the world’s total population is
facing problems relating to hearing. At the first look, the figure 5% sounds like a few people only, but
that is over 360 Million people all over the world. Within those 360 Million people, around 32 Million
are children below 15 years. It is ironic that more than 90% of the ear infections of chronic nature are in
South East Asia, Western Pacific, African Region and also amongst ethnic minorities in the Pacific rim
(WHO, 2013). Reasons being, lack of access to medical facilities and less awareness about diseases
amongst the people. If diagnosed early, their deafness is curable through advanced interventions. WHO
has been working to identify the cases which need treatment for which many community-based
campaigns are being run in the above mentioned regions.
What is more threatening, particularly for the young is that of the total global needs, only 10% can be
met through the production of hearing aids at present. In developing countries, less than 3% of people
needing hearing aid can afford one. Keeping in view this requirement, the X company has come up with
the latest hearing aid called Y.

This hearing aid is manufactured with state-of-the-art technologies to ensure that the users feel clarity
in hearing and also do not feel uncomfortable wearing it. This is very tiny in shape, and its transparent
design makes it adjustable with the skin color and is visible only if watched carefully. The transparent
design has been developed as many users feel hesitant in putting hearing aid since some parts of the
machine are visible. This latest design will help the users in using the machines without the feeling of
awkwardness.
The most important aspect of this aid is its cost effectiveness. It is designed as a low cost, affordable to
all model. With the use of the latest technologies, the battery life of this device is also enhanced to a
greater period. While in case of other machines, the batteries are required to be replaced in every 9/10
years, remarkably for this model the battery has longevity of 14-15 years. Among other benefits of this
machine, one of the most pleasing things is that placing this device is also very easy. Just a small surgical
procedure and the device gets fixed with all the required connectivity.
