The following assignment is based on the overall analysis of a company and its
financials and providing a recommendation to the shareholders based on that. The
company that has been selected is Macys department store, and it is one of the
biggest American departmental store chain. The overall mission vision of the
company and its various strategies have been discussed.

The company that has been selected is Macy's department store. This company was
founded in 1858, and it is an American departmental store chain. The company has
been in operation since a long time and that is a major reason why this company
has been selected as there are many areas in which analysis can be done given the
overall area of operations of the company is huge. As of 2017, the overall revenue
of the company was $24.8billion and the company has more than 500 stores in
various countries that include the United States, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The
company is headquartered in New York.
Few of the many reasons for which this company has been selected are –
 It is one of the oldest and the biggest company in the retail sector and it
indulges in a variety of products, with its operation spread in various
countries.
 The company has many divisions and thus given the opportunity to explore
the various aspects of business and operations.
 The company fits the bill for making this research paper and preparing the
literature review of a fully developed business (Boghossian, 2017).
The preliminary research that was done before selecting this company for this
assignment included-
 Details about the various companies in the retail sector were collected and
studied. There are so many retail chain brands and thus thorough research
was needed to understand which company would be more beneficial to be
analyzed.
 Various sites like the Wikipedia, various peer-reviewed journals, articles were
studied to understand what is needed which writing such kind of research
paper and what are the technical aspects that must be kept in mind and
based on that the selection of the company was done as this would help in
writing about it in a clearer manner.
 Data about the company and its financials were taken from the website of
the company and the published annual reports and various financial sites
were also studied to understand the growth of the business, the overall

capital structure, the areas of operations, the major sources of revenue
among others. This helped in getting a clear picture of the company and its
major goals, mission and vision (Webster, 2017). The research also included
studying the latest news about the company and analysing its movement of
shares and securities on the stock exchange, as this helps in understanding
whether the investors are interested in the company or not.
