Case Study
AI Summary
This case study analyzes maintenance planning and scheduling through two video case studies. The first case study, featuring Roy Rothwell, focuses on maintenance planning and scheduling, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), defect elimination, and work execution management. The second case study examines the maintenance of a jumbo jet, detailing the processes involved in its strip-down, inspection, and repair, emphasizing the importance of a systematic approach, priority lists, and specialized engineering skills. Both case studies highlight the critical role of planning, scheduling, and skilled personnel in ensuring efficient asset management and operational effectiveness in diverse engineering contexts.

Maintenance planning and scheduling
INTRODUCTION
In every business entity, there are assets used in the production process. Different
organizations have their way of maintaining their equipment. The maintenance is achieved by
planning and scheduling of the policy to apply during equipment maintenance (Hurt & Schrock,
2016). Every asses or material used in production must undergo depreciation. The support will
help improve the machine depreciation. A case study was developed from the lessons taught by

Roy Roth well, who is a specialist in maintenance planning and scheduling. The discussion has
covered several critical aspects of maintenance, plan, and schedule. It is a lesson taught by Roy,
and it is very educational as the content profoundly expounds on the maintenance planning and
scheduling strategy. Roy Roth well has been in the maintenance software field for over twenty-
five years; therefore, he has a total experience in maintenance management.
Reflection and discussion
1. The computerized maintenance management system. I have clear leaned from the case that
CMMS journey or process requires the maintenance team to deploy the asset reliability
strategies. The system building blocks will ensure the ISO component is factored. The
maintenance team will monitor the continuous improvement of the system (López-
Santana, Akhavan-Tabatabaei, Dieulle, Labadie, & Medaglia, 2016). Maintenance helps
in the development of assets, PMs, contacts, parts, and work orders schedule up to the
systems actualization completion.
2. Planning and scheduling. According to Roy, in the case study, he states that planning and
programming take place in the following context. I should ensure, planning and
scheduling must be involved in the defect elimination to ensure operator driven
reliability: uptime elements and work execution management compliance, maintenance
(Memarzadeh & Pozzi, 2016). Inter craft coordination is done to ensure CMMS on
backlogs will be impartial to return on investment.
3. The leverage planning provides the service of generating labor hours and without delay.
The system is now up to direct work after every part is ready for production. Some
delays mighty are experienced under waiting times (Froger, Gendreau, Mendoza, Pinson,

& Rousseau, 2016). The systems are necessarily stressed to concentrate on the wrench
time, which is the most exciting part of the production time.
4. The work management entails identifying the work to be done and requirements. After
work identification, I should acquire work planning metrics. The work is, therefore,
scheduled. Afterward can plan and work on block management (Beheshti Fakher,
Nourelfath, & Gendreau, 2017). Resources are also management such as people and
materials and, finally, general scheduling.
5. Planning principles and Scheduling principles
Separate department
The manager should plan emergency work, act as a relief supervisor, and become a
material expeditor. He should expect from behind the desk only working on tools and
ensure to perform time-consuming clerical activities.
Focus on future work and improve constantly

Have plans that recognize the skills of the craft
Measure performance with work sampling
Scheduling principles

Conclusion
The case study prepared by Roy Roth well has discussed the maintenance planning and
scheduling and all its components that can help achieve the desired quality output. The case has
delicate information and well explained and easily understandable to any reader. However, the
quality of the manager will depend on the determination and objectives put into consideration.

Maintenance engineering giants jumbo jet strip down-Ep 1
Introduction
The jumbo jet strip-down case study is developed under the American giant engineering
environment. The case study is prepared under the interrogation of a great engineer in operation.
The case study is revolving under maintenance planning and scheduling, which is clearly
explained and illustration in the case study video (Platt, 2019). The engineers are supervised by a
general engineer who holds to ensuring the system is well maintained for smooth operations.
Reflection and discussion
From the study course, maintenance planning and scheduling is not a cake to take work.
However, it entails a detailed procedure with independent components (Thompson, 2018). The
jumbo jet is an aircraft with more than twelve thousand systemic parts. The sub-systems
contribute to the successful operation of the entire system.
1. Maintenance planning of jumbo jet. The plan, according to the case study, is based on
the functionality of the system. In this case, I should first evaluate the condition of the
methods by exploring the many parts of the jumbo jet.
2. Rendering that jumbo jet is one of the biggest passenger accommodating vessel. It
can hold up to five hundred passengers. After exploration, the parts are tested for
defects and depreciation. Highly trained and experienced engineers perform the
activity. I, therefore, ensure all parts are intact and in good condition. The systems
can be categorized depending on the operation; however, each is essential and
interdependent. The plane has a safety system that has also to be tested for

maintenance (Rigney, 2017). The engine is lowered and separated from the entire jet
for testing and repair.
3. The jet has a landing gear, which is also a system, and when messed up, it can be
disastrous. There are also critical safety components that help in the case of crushing
of the plane. The most exciting thing is that engineers love their work and want to
exploit more knowledge of maintenance technology.
4. Maintenance scheduling. As the manager now has a protocol for scheduling
maintenance activities. The activities are maintained depending on the order of
priority. Typically, by using the sequence of operation and first deal with sub-systems
and evaluate every part of the jet up to the entire plane. Like any other maintenance,
the jumbo plane is a system of many sub-systems. It is complex and requires highly-
trained specialists.
5. After maintenance and repairs, the whole system jumbo jet is now tested. The testing
requires making a few miles flight for testing if all the plane parts functionality before
it is risked with hundreds of people (Weber et al., 2018). The risks are accessed and
dealt with during the maintenance period.
Conclusion
Maintenance Engineering is one of the most complex management. However, giant
jumbo jet engineers view it as an easy task to undertake. Surprisingly, they carry out operations
with minimal time and with utmost accuracy and minimum time. They use a priority list to
ensure all departments are attended. A checklist is used by the general engineer to confirm the
work for safety.
