1. Explain the following terminology related to Airport facilities and transport
units.
Some common facilities available in the airports across Australia are –
Airport Lounges – Travelling is fun but if we have to travel daily then it’s
a kind of torture and these lounges are kind of an ‘Oasis’. When you
have a long waiting time, the best place to sit in the airport is a lounge.
It’s generally quiet and have many amenities like Wi-Fi, charging
facility, food & drinks, sleeping pods, newspaper and magazines etc.
Catchment area: In this area, a large number of people stay here. From
this area, people have 2hour approximately to move to the airport by
bus, train, and car. This area is of great importance to the airports as
well as to the airlines. Approximately 2.5 million people are there in the
RIX catchment area.
Foreign Exchange – Foreign exchange is used to convert one currency
to another one. Since a lot of passenger travels to different country and
their currency will not be valid in another country, foreign exchange
stores at the airport helps you to change your currency into another
currency.
Disabled access – Disabled passengers needs special facilities and
assistance like ramp access to the airport, special kind of toilet and

facilities to ease their travelling.
Luggage Services – Many airports in the country have started providing
luggage services. The services including Storage for the luggage for
short term and long term. Apart from Luggage storage service some
airport might also provide services like wrapping the luggage which
helps to protect the luggage during the journey.
Luggage Sticker: These sticker are attached to the lug gages of the
passengers, which are registered for shipment in the flight.
Civil Aviation: Aircrafts and objects that serve the purpose of air travel
serving public needs are included in civil aviation.
Medical facility – All airports generally have Medical facility.
Passengers fell ill in many circumstances and needs the basic
treatment and this Medical facility is utmost needed. They also provide
many other services like screening the patient, pre-employment health
check-up etc (Zhang and Lu, 2017).
Kids play area- Travelling can be hectic for kids and long layover is
hectic for both parents and children. Handling the children in airport
can be tough task along with luggage. Nowadays, Kids playing area
are coming up in many airports to keep the child busy and make
travelling less hectic.
Some terminology associated with transport units are –
Land side – This area of the airport is the area which is open to
public access. For cargo terminal it can be understood as the area
which is accessed by exporters and importers to deliver or collect
their shipments.
Air side – This area is the area surrounding aircraft and other
important buildings. Any passenger or staff entering the air side
need to undergo security check. For cargo terminal it can be
considered as the area from where cargo is moved to or back from

the aircrafts.
2. Explain how airport facilities, Terminal Block and transport units (Land side
&Air side) are monitor to identify inappropriate behavior.
Inappropriate behavior are the behavior which deviates from the ideal
behavior and indulging in shouting, annoying other people, threatening,
offensive behavior etc. People breaking the Queue, passengers fighting
among themselves, passengers trying to smuggle banned items inside the
airport are some examples of inappropriate behavior. Even there is a looming
threat of terrorism on the airline sectors.
Last year a person hit the policemen in one of the airport. These unruly
behavior by the passengers or even staff creates a negative effect on other
flyers (Zhang and Lu, 2017). Since airports are already high security zone, it
is very easy to monitor the inappropriate behavior at facilities, terminal block
as well as in transport units. Following measures are taken to monitor the
inappropriate behavior-
Police force dedicated for the airport security. They are deployed both
in the land side as well as air side to check the inappropriate behavior
inside the airport or outside it.
Deploying security guards to set up the roadblocks before the airport
and inspecting the vehicles and luggage.
Police dog unit deployed in the airport for explosive and drug detection.
