Requirement. To be eligible to pass the
course, students must submit a
reasonable attempt of this assessment
item, in addition to achieving a
minimum of 50% in the sum of all
marks for all assessment tasks.
 Description:
Students are required to write a 1500 word
report on a management problem or
potential management problem they
identify in the Case Study (Available on
Learning@Griffith).
There are a number of problems/potential
problems within the case study, but a good
manager is always looking for ways to
improve even a good business. He/she is
also looking for POTENTIAL problems that
may threaten the business in the future and
developing ways to combat these threats. In
many cases, the problem you will choose to
research will be a potential problem, rather
than a current one.
In writing your Report, there is NO need for
detailed research about the particular
organisation in the case study. Rather, you
should focus on researching the
MANAGEMENT PROBLEM you identify. You
are free to choose whatever management

Preliminary Section:

Body or Content:
1. Introduction and Problem Identification:
In this section, you are outlining the purpose
and scope of the report. You identify the
management related problem/potential
problem in the case study and your
proposed argument address this problem.
Note: Introduction and Problem
identification can be combined in one
section or divided into two sections.
2. Discussion:
In this section, you identify two or more
arguments or perspectives in the research
relating to the ONE problem that you have
identified in the case study.

3. Conclusion and Recommendations:
The conclusion should summarise your
report. This section also provides
recommendations derived from your
research to solve the problem identified in
the case study.
Note: Conclusion and Recommendations can
be combined in one section or divided into
two sections.
Do not use dot points in your report.
Referencing
Referencing should be according to the
Harvard or APA guidelines. Students must
attach a reference list containing only those
items that have been referred to in the body
of the essay (not a bibliography of sources
used). Details on correct referencing
will be provided on the Course Web
Site during the Trimester. These will
also be discussed in lectures and
workshops.
Presentation Format
The report should use 1.5 line spacing, fully
justified, with New Times Roman 12 point
font OR a comparable font of similar size,
(e.g. Arial 11). Pages should be numbered.
