The issue of the following topic revolves round the factor of securing environmental
sustainability through corporate social responsibilities of organizations regarding the indigenous
people and tribes of Australia. The Indigenous Australian people have been deprived of most
facilities and they have always been regarded as disadvantaged people in the society of Australia.
The Dreaming and Economic Organization will be focused in these perspectives regarding the
success of their plans and policies precisely.
Background
This portion of the report will relate to the overall condition regarding this topic. It has
been known by most people that the Australian indigenous people have been neglected in many
cases. In the socio-economic perspectives, these indigenous people have always been regarded as
disadvantaged. Australian indigenous people have not gained any type of socio-economic
advantage in the last few decades (Whitehouse et al., 2014). Although in the recent times the
Federal Government of Australia has taken some steps that would be helpful for them to
overcome these problematic situations. The foundational aspects of the Indigenous cultures in
Australia are based on the diversity of the Australian families. The Federal Government is also
not that much cautious about delivering them with the amenities they will need. This is the
probable reason as to why they feel as the disadvantaged section of the society. The family life
has been changed in the entire Australia and these changes have been influenced by the
Europeans. There are many sectors where these indigenous people have not been able to gain any
sort of facilities. These are mostly education and health sectors. This is why it is quite probable
that children of these indigenous people do not have the education to thrive in this competitive
society. As a result of this lack of education, they have not got proper jobs that would help to

increase the GDP of Australia. The various forms of disadvantage among the indigenous
Australians can be seen in their poverty, unemployment and racism.
It is a very clear thing to say that indigenous Australians have been victims of racism
over the years. The negative impact of this racism has been seen in their quest for seeking health
and education facilities as well. They have remained unemployed because they have received
insults from their colleagues in their workplaces. So, it is high time that they should get all their
rights. They suffer from stress and mental dysfunction from the last decade of the 18th century to
be precise.. Many policies have been taken by the Federal Government of Australia as it is a
matter of national heritage. Still, the problem remains as people of indigenous families are
largely deprived of their rights to education, health, employment and others. The economic
organizations should come up in the aid of these people to save them from extinction. If the
statistics regarding their depriving from facilities can be compared, it can be seen that more than
22% of indigenous Australians are unemployed today in comparison to 7% of those non-
indigenous people. Public debates in the current times have often questioned in favor of giving
them proper facilities that they actually deserve (Whitehouse et al., 2014). There are some
reasons in real life as to why the Australian aboriginal people have been suffering largely indeed.
The Assimilation programs have also not yielded positive fruits in this scenario. Some of these
reasons are shorter life expectancy of the people, poor health, lack of food supply, not being
provided with education facilities, low levels of employment facilities and many more things. If
all these issues are sorted out by the government, the business professionals will be encouraged
to expand their business among these people as well.
Around 40.7% of indigenous people in Australia have got their jobs in various sectors
compared to 56.4% of non-indigenous people. This is surely some kind of injustice being done

on them. Most of these Australian indigenous people are unskilled laborers so it is hard for them
to earn good amount of money from their professions. The adult indigenous people from
Australia earn around $190 per week where their non-indigenous counterparts earn around $292.
Therefore, they have been disadvantaged from economic perspectives in a large level
(Aph.gov.au, 2019). Around 67% of indigenous people do not have their own houses so they
have to live in the rented houses. Sometimes people, who rent their houses to them, often abuse
them and say insulting things regarding their race. This is why it has become a huge problem for
these people (Altman, Larsen & Buchanan, 2018). In the very recent times in the second half of
this century, the Federal Government of Australia had taken up many policies that would
enhance the lifestyles of the aboriginal Australian people. At a point of time, Australian people,
government and the media was of the opinion that Australian aboriginal people were a dying
race. Many committees had been formed to protect the aboriginal people of New South Wales by
the provincial governments. The records and statistics have also suggested that a bit more than
3% of indigenous people had never attended school in their lives. On the contrary, this number is
only 0.7% for the non-indigenous people (Aph.gov.au, 2019). Apparently, it is pretty clear that
these people have been deprived of all sorts of facilities that are not given to these indigenous
people in Australia. Only around 23% of indigenous people in Australia have their post-school
qualification degrees (Aph.gov.au, 2019). Therefore, the numbers are very much alarming
indeed.
It is the responsibility of the Government and different corporate organizations as a part
of their corporate social responsibility to cater for the betterment of these people. The health
standards of these people are also very critical as well (Altman, Larsen & Buchanan, 2018). It is
because life expectancy at birth for male indigenous people is just 57 years and for females, it is

only around 64 years. On the contrary, male life indigenous expectancy of non-indigenous
people is 75years and 81 years for females. Only 6.3% of people live over 55 years for
indigenous people. This means the lives of these indigenous people are in deep jeopardy.
However, many policy regulations have been formed to support the lives of indigenous people.
These policies should be implemented on the ground level so all people should get their rights.
The Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) has also been implemented in this scenario to help
the indigenous people to retain their lands and get jobs (Aph.gov.au, 2019). Some portions that
will be focused on in these strategies and plans are that of sending children to schools, providing
them with safety and look after their well being (Altman, 2018). The Government has to take
some actions on introducing their cultures in front of the world. The two past policies for the
betterment of the Australian people are Assimilation and Protection. With time, many new
policies had been implemented. However, the Protection policy by Australian Government was
not successful that much indeed. The success was limited and very often the posts of Protectors
had been terminated.
The organizations should come up to assist the Federal Government so they can
implement important strategies for the benefits of these people. The sustainability of the
environment should be sought because the climate in which they live is not appropriate for
proper health conditions. They tend to suffer from several diseases because of these issues. The
history of colonization has impacted on this condition of the indigenous people in Australia. The
financial problems have always been among the indigenous people in Australia. So, it is the need
of the hour to provide these indigenous people to provide with financial assistance so they can be
able to flourish in their careers (Altman, 2018).

The Government is keen to provide assistance to these people regarding budgeting and
saving, buying mobile phones to stay updated with the world, stay away from the scams and
lucrative offers given by cheat funds. Under Governor Phillip during British settlements, British
Empire kept good relationships with these native inhabitants of Australia (Aph.gov.au, 2019)
However, the lands of these people began to be taken away and this had resulted in the racial
conflicts between British people and native Australians (Muller, 2014).
Current Position
Thus the main problem has been located that indigenous people in Australia have been
deprived of their rights of land from the era of British settlements. Therefore, the first priority of
the Dreaming and Economic Organization would be to provide them with their own homes. As a
part of their corporate social responsibility, they should make sure that these indigenous
Australian people do not have to live in their rented houses (Paradies, 2016). As long as they live
in these rented houses, they will have to tolerate the insults made by the white people in their
country. They have heard the stories of colonial oppression by the white settlers within the
country (Short, 2016)
This section will highlight on the fact of Government’s attempt to cope up with several
environmental challenges. So, they do not want to face this situation again. In order to provide
better sustainability practices to the indigenous people in Australia, the federal government has
taken some steps that is a sign of improvement from the past standards. Still they are facing
many environmental challenges like natural calamities. Numerous people have lost their lives in
the past due to these practices (Paradies, 2016). These indigenous people are considered as the
First Nations people of this country. Corporate organizations should provide equipments for

harvesting to these people. This will cater to their need for improving agricultural opportunities
in the land (Short, 2016)
The lands of indigenous Australians should not be taken over the white people anymore
since this will impact on the sovereignty and independence of the country (Griffiths et al., 2016).
Motivation should be given to these people so they can learn to live in this country properly with
all their rights. The organization should take up green initiatives to protect the environment
properly. The possibilities for betterment are endless and this has really helped in the growth of
indigenous people in this country (Short, 2016). The organization will be looking for
collaborating with the government in order to provide indigenous people with the scope to live a
better life.
The organization should operate to help the indigenous people to grow from both
economic and environmental perspectives. This is the manner how they will gain a good
reputation in front of their stakeholders (Axelsson, Kukutai & Kippen, 2016). The indigenous
people should be secured with their rights and they should get the opportunity to grow their
crops. In the current times, the environment of the region more sustainable than it used to be in
the past. The policies of the government have placed the indigenous people of the region. These
policies of the government will probably take the position to a better state in the future. The
historical policies of assimilation and protection will be so much important to measure the limit
of safety of the Australian people within the native culture.
Recommendations
The company will have to implement their CSR activities so they can make the situation
better. The primary purpose of the concerned organization would be to collaborate with the

government and make some strategies that will surely look after the well being of these people.
The issues regarding the lands of these people had become a very sensitive issue in the history.
Therefore they must distribute fresh and healthy food among the indigenous Australian people in
the country. This step can be considered as a very commendable step since the indigenous
Australians have not been able to get access to healthy food for a long time. With this good food
and healthy lifestyle, their life expectancy will be increased.
The Federal Government must take up some policies and plans that would surely add up
to the assimilation of the Indigenous people within the Native Australian culture. Many cultural
centers could organize classes on teaching them with the main factors of the Native Australian
culture. They should see to the fact these people are assimilated with various festivals and
occasions these native people celebrate.
Increasingly, the company can also opt to provide aboriginal and indigenous children
with books and study equipments o encourage them with their studies. If they study and get
degrees, they will not be left as unskilled laborers. Their efforts should be considered as very
crucial. Health facilities can be improved by the company through starting acute care
departments especially for indigenous women and children. All these steps can thrive to create a
better tomorrow for aboriginal and indigenous Australian people. By gaining security of food
and environmental security, the company will earn good reputation from their stakeholders in the
later times. The ethical considerations are very high in this scenario as the company has decided
to look after the indigenous people by collaborating with the government.
