Part A- Evaluation of Relative Success Regarding Success of McDonald’s Employment of
Verbal and Physical Comic Devices in Act III, scene IV
McDonald has been capable of incorporating both verbal as well as physical comic
devices in the respective scene. The verbal devices include Parody as well as Sexual Innuendo
and on the other hand, rising of friendly brutality as well as the persistence of Romeo and Juliet
in becoming physical with Constance and the constant struggle for avoiding them.
The application of sexual innuendo is present in the different scenes throughout “I’d
quench myself at thy Priapic font,” “O that I was a fountain pen within thy hand”. For years,
I’ve sought to penetrate your source” (Macdonald, 2012). The following kind of conversation
helps in showing the usage of parody which is as follows:
Both the kinds of verbal devices help in adding towards the entire effect of lightening the
entire mood and helping for changing monotonous aspect in the drama related progression. It
assists in making audience in feeling witty and the main intent which has been provided is the
usage of the devices (Macdonald, 2012).
On the other hand, physical device which has been seen and analyzed in the respective
aspect is seen when “Romeo tries placing his hand on Tybalt’s bottom and in return, Tybalt
smacks Romeo’s butt in return. The other usage of physical device is seen wherein Romeo tries
to constantly kiss Constance and Juliet takes hand of Constance and does not release the same
(Macdonald, 2012).
Therefore, from the analysis of both verbal as well as physical devices, it helps in serving
as the aspect for the lightening of mood and engaging the audience’s attention appropriately as
well.

Part B- Analysis of Alchemical Process of Turning Base Metals in Gold by Constance Using
Desdemona and Juliet
The overall concept of Alchemy mainly means to the actual theory for turning base
metals into gold. The respective type of approach is mainly included in the different approaches
of the existence of the human beings in the entire world. The same can be related to the fact that
the individuals are capable of attaining the apex of proper excellence which will be suitable for
making them divine as well as effective (Macdonald, 2012). The main character in the play,
named Constance did not understand and believe in human related perfection concept and she
had lack of knowledge and belief on the fact that the original author for the work is Shakespeare.
On contrary, she has considered the fact that Romeo and Juliet along with Othello has been
written by some author who is unknown. The same judgment which has been given by her can be
demonstrated through interpreting the manuscript which was mainly written by Gustav.
In the original and actual aspect, Shakespeare has been capable of showcasing the tragedy
wherein Desdemona was considered to be the victim of trust and love along with she has been
devoted towards her husband along with obeying the commands. However, on the contrary,
Constance has showcased her as gullible as well as strong headed women and it has been noticed
that she is same to original character of Othello, who was perceived as respectful, however, was
totally responsible for downfall which was mainly because of lack of belief upon his wife
(Macdonald). There was explosiveness from Desdemona as she feels that the different kinds of
allegations which have been made are false and it does not relate to her character in any way. On
the other hand, Constance compliments Desdemona as there was truth in the entire story and
feels that it is magnificent. On the other hand, the bad or ineffective quality of Desdemona which
was felt by Constance was the inclination towards the tragedy and it was seen that exploitation

was the other major factor as she was jealous or angry. At the end, Desdemona tries to promise
Constance wherein she can be amending herself along with changing the different methods.
On the other hand, the unique Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare helps in
projecting the fact Juliet is considered to be the symbolism of love, romance and the same is
analyzed by Constance who tried to call Juliet as the spirit of romance. After reading in depth the
story, it was found that Juliet was immature in her views. The strong type of love for Constance
as well as the views at the first sight tried to inspire for loving, however, at the end, Constance
tries to make Juliet had tried to assure her there would be reforming and there will be positive
approach towards life. In the end, Connie has been successful in finding herself in place of work
at Queen’s. She tries to touch herself as it helps in confirming reality. After removal of the pen
which is feathered which was behind ears, it was noticed that it has twisted in gold. It is directly
related with one another for discovering confidence with assistance of Juliet as well as
Desdemona. At the last, Constance has been shown as the person who is totally different and
there was alchemical transformation.
Therefore, from the above, it can be analyzed that it will be helpful for the audiences in
understanding the ultimate truth regarding the matters and understanding the role of characters
appropriately which can be beneficial in understanding the references to the play successfully.
