INTRODUCTION
Management is an art of getting certain provided things or activities done by other people
with efficiency and effectiveness. It is the process in business organisations which is responsible
for all the practised activities in he surroundings that are done with the motive of archiving the
organisation's objectives. It is a vast topic that involves many different sub topics or activities in
it to bring out the most possible level of effectiveness through the process of management. The
different important activities involved in this are – planning, organising, staffing, directing and
controlling (Bak and Mill, 2020). The following report gives a detailed information about the
topic through different questions. Firstly different management structures and business functions
are covered. Then it tells about the marketing function and how it plays a role in business
success. It further move to management functions and at last it covers the topic of talent
management and organisational culture.
TASK
Management structure and business functions :
Management structure is a system that provide with the form in which the different
activities and information is allowed or directed to be followed and practised. A management
structure is formed according to the goals, objectives and type of the business organisation. It is
also known as organisational structure. There are many different types of organisational
structures some of which are concluded in the following points with their advantages and
disadvantages to a business entity :
Hierarchical structure – It is the most common type of structure followed in companies.
The workforce is divided into different groups that can be based on their function,
geography or the type of service or product they render (Narayan, Sidhu and Volberda,
2021).
Advantage – The level of authority is clearly defined through this and this help in
limiting the conflicts
Disadvantage – It creates a type of bureaucracy that must be managed by the people
which demote the innovatory factor.
Functional structure This type of organisational structure forms groups of the
employees according to their specialisation and responsibilities such as finance

department which consists of people that have expertise knowledge in managing money
related assets. There is a manager for each department which are then overseen by a
supervisor.
Advantage – The performance and productivity is improved due to the specialisation
of employees in their roles
Disadvantage – The communication and collaboration between different department
is low.
Matrix structure – The groups in this type are formed on basis of skills. The group of
employees are managed from more than one manager. Different managers have different
responsibilities and functions.
Advantage – The productivity is qualified with minimal use of resources
Disadvantage – The confusion over authority of the mangers promotes conflicts due
to the different ways of strategic management.
Defining business functions and their responsibilities :
Business function are all the activities that are being practised in an business enterprise.
These functions help in ensuring the proper functioning of an organisation. These are the
groupings based on the capabilities and skills of employees with the motive of producing
specialised products or services with minimum utilisation of resources (Vugec, Tomičić-Pupek
and Vukšić, 2018. The different business functions have different responsibilities. Some of the
types of business functions are defined in the following points :
Production – This business function is mainly responsible for quality and quantity of the
production. These are provided with the orders that should be followed in the
development process of commodities.
Research and development – This function works in scanning the market and identfiyng
various needs for product / services, techniques methods or tools that can help in making
certain processes effective and fulfilling the wants of people.
Sales and marketing – This function works in providing the market with the information
and need that the product or service can fulfil. It is responsible for the amount of sales of
the company.

This function of an business enterprise has the main responsibility of increasing the sales
of the product or service provided by it in the market. For this an marketing department follows
different activities such as – promotion of the present product/ service, identifying the best
distributing technique, pricing the commodities efficiently and raising the brand awareness of the
company or its goods / services )(Ribeiro and Nagano, 2018). All the functions of a business
enterprise are link to each other and have relation that must be maintained for smooth working of
a company. Following points consist of the relation of marketing department with several other
departments :
Marketing with research and development – This is one of the most inter related duo of
departments. The research and development department works in building new product or
service for its firm. The marketing team analyse the information about the good or
service from it and tells the market that how it can fulfil their wants and needs.
Marketing with human resource The HR department works in maintaining the
workforce of an organisation. It inter relates with the marketing function as the marketing
works in making the market knowledged about the needed type of employees in the
company. It can help in bringing the talented group of individuals to the company at
lower salaries.
Management functions and how they manage a business :
Different management functions and their responsibilities :
There are basically five types of managerial functions performed for effective and efficient
management in a firm. These are discussed in the following points with their responsibilities :
Planning – This function is responsible for making of the objectives and determining the
strategies that can be performed to achieve them.
Organising – This function's responsibility is over look the presence of all the needed
tools and things in the process of making and delivering the goods or service to the
consumers and organising them in the most efficient way (Yan, Tran-Danh and Hong,
2019).
Staffing – The maintenance and bringing out the most possible productivity from the
human resources is the sole responsibility of this function.

Leading / directing – The orders relating to the process, activity or considerations that are
needed in the process of producing the commodities, are provided thorough this function.
Controlling – The role of this is to maintain and supervise all the activities of the other
functions and maintaining a inter relation in each department (Kaplan, 2018).
Two of the above functions are discussed in detail and how they help in success of a business
company in the following points :
Planing – This is the basic activity of a company that is practised in the first position.
This provides the employees and higher authorities with the objective and goals that need
to be worked upon to be achieved. These help in success of a company as these build the
direction that needs to followed by the employees through the mission and goals that will
provide the firm with a growth when achieved.
Organising – This works in organising the activities and processes of a business firm in a
systematic way. This help in success of a company by avoiding the duplication of work
and building the productivity.
Talent Management and Organisational Culture :
The role of HR in relation to talent management :
HR department is responsible for mostly all the related activities of workforce such as
hiring, motivating, managing the performance and holding them. Talent management is works in
ensuring and holding the talented employees with the organisation. It is one of the main
consideration of HR department to ensure the availability of talented employees in the
organisation. For this it maintains the availability of this factors in all of its activity such s
recruiting and performance management, through hiring talented employees and identifying and
bringing out the talent from the present employees.
Defining organisational culture and how positive culture impacts on the success :
Organisational culture is the behaviour that is being followed within the surrounding of
an company or in its relation (Sen, 2019). This includes the consideration of beliefs, ethics,
religion and values of the society or the working employees. A correct adoption of these
elements that do not harm the beliefs of consumers and working employees is said a positive
organisational culture. It can help in developing the goodwill of the company in the market and
also in making a emotional connection with the buyers and society.

From the above report it has been concluded that management is an essential activity of a
business firm. It have different types of structures such as – functional, matrix and Hierarchical.
These different ways of allowing the information to be flowed. The different activities practised
in a business organisation are classified into different business functions for smooth and efficient
working. The HR department of a company maintains and motivate the workforce to increase
