TASK 1
A manager plays important role in an organisation and its main responsibility is to
managing and controlling business activities in order to enhance its growth and development.
Manager performs various duties where he is responsible to make plans and policies with their
effective implementation in order to achieve advantages (Dhami and Thomson, 2012).
I am working as a manager in a small business organisation which is a clothing retail
company and has only three employees. It is important for me to manage the business effectively
in order to enhance its productivity and efficiency which will help me in increasing the
profitability. Apart from this, I need to carry out four main functions of management which will
support me in achieving the desired goals and objectives. These functions of management
includes planning, organising, leading and controlling. All these functions are described as
follows: -
Planning:
It is one of the main role of manager within organisation which is linked with preparation
of plans by which goals and objectives of firm can be achieved effectively within a stipulated
time frame. The following process does not only includes the way to acquire all required
resources and responsibility delegation but also involves setting of realistic goals with its
standards and timeline for attaining it. Planning requires that manager must perform role where
he checks the performance of staff members and make necessary changes wherever required.
The following function consists of independent working with responsibility to determine which
role is to be given to employees. Apart from this, the function involves setting priorities for
various tasks and setting time frame till which the work has to be completed.
Being the manager in small business, I need to plan effectively in order to allocate the
resources within a given period of time which will help in continuous working of organisation.
Apart from this, as firm has only few number of staff members, it is necessary for me to manage
them effectually with proper planning (Dyck, Starke and Weimer, 2012).
Organising:
It goes hand in hand with the function of planning. A manager’s organisational quality is
the most important in order to ensure smooth working of business activities. This function of
manager involves the development of business structure and allocation of all required resources
for achieving goals and objectives of business firm.. It also includes designing of staff member’s

defined as a job design. As I am the manager in small clothing business, I have responsibilities to
assign the roles and duties among all staff members. Apart from this, I am responsible for
organising all resources effectively without any wastage which helps in enhancing the
profitability of firm (Goetsch and Davis, 2014).
Leading:
The managers must be confident and comfortable while commanding members of
organisation in their daily routine. The effective leadership quality is most essential which helps
in influencing interest of employees towards objectives of business and it supports in attaining
the goal within a specific period of time as well. The function carried out by manager boost the
ability of individual which increases their level of performance and supports in enhancing
profitability. Being the manager, it is my duty to command employees of members effectively in
order to influence their interests towards achievement of goals and objectives of organisation.
Controlling:
It is the fourth function of management which is carried out by manager in order to
ensure effective working of all functions of management and also check their effectiveness and
efficiency. It is the duty of manager to monitor and control all activities of business, work
quality and performance efficiency. This supports the manager to evaluate weak points which
decline the performance of employees. Being the manager, I will monitor and control all the
business functions.
In multinational clothing organisation, the leading function is effectively changed as there
are large number of employees within it so single manager cannot handle all employees. Thus,
there any leaders who have command over their team members. As rest of all functions are
performed by manager himself (Guest, 2011).

decline in success of any organisation. In the process of communication manager is the one who
plays significant role in transfer of information among different departments and at various
levels with the use of communication tools. The effective communication helps to eliminate all
the doubts while performing activity and supports in enhancing the level of performance. Apart
from the following miscommunication may led to creation of rivalries among the employees
which directly declines the productivity. Such barriers in communication affects the management
of firm and its system and it may create certain issues. Some issues are listed as follows: -
Controversial announcement: -
The controversial announcement made by managers of organisation creates rumours within it. It
is necessary for manager to announce his decisions clearly. The bad announcement directly leads
to rivalries among members of organisation.
Underestimation of audience awareness: -
It is important that audience must not be underestimated and they must not be considered as
fools. Many managers tends to stimulate members of organisation by making them aware about
the issues. Due to this employees understands situations which makes them more loyal in respect
of their assigned job responsibilities (Dyck, Starke and Weimer, 2012).
Utilization of inappropriate tools of communication: -
It is important to use the effective method of communication according to the type of
information which has to be transferred among the members of enterprise. It will support in
effective delivery of message at different levels of organisation. Apart form them following,
inappropriate method is used in transfer of message it will create miscommunication and may led
to creation of rivalry among member due ineffective transfer of information (Goetsch and Davis,
2014).
