INTRODUCTION
Management is an art of dealing, controlling and getting things done. It is a continuous needed
activity. In reference to businesses, it is a compulsory process that involves all the activities and
tasks that are undertaken in order to achieve goals (Kernstock, Brexendorf and Powell, 2017).
Some of the different activities that are involved in this are planning, decision making,
controlling, leading and organising all the physical, financial, information and human resources.
The following report is divided in four headings which are further divided in sub headings.
Firstly it will cover the advantages and disadvantages about different management structures and
a brief explanation about business functions. Then it will cover the discussion of relation of
marketing with business function. Some marketing functions are then explained in detail. At last
it covers the importance of talent management in organisations.
TASK 1
Management structure and business functions :
Management structure or organisational structure is a system that tells about the way in
which different activities of an organisation are directed to practice in order to achieve its goals.
It also include the expected the way for flowing of information between different levels.
Outline the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of organisational structure
There are many types of organisational structures. Following are some types of organisational
structure with their advantages and disadvantages in tabular form :
Line organisational structure – In this, the departments are arranged orderly according
to their type of work. They are expected to communicate and focus only on their relative
line of department with direct and vertical relationships (Chaudary, Navid Tahir and
Mubin, 2020).
◦ Advantage – The authority, responsibility and work is clear and simplified.
◦ Disadvantage – The key person or manager are overloaded due to the responsibility
and maintenance of their whole department.
Hybrid Organisational structure – This structures divides the different activities into
different departments with combination of both functional and divisional structural
activities. It is used in business entities that have large and complex differentiation of
roles.
