Methods of businesses are using Information System and Technology:
Operational Roles: The information system and the information technology has an
important role in the context of organizational operations. While considering the role of the
information system in the organizational operations it holds a major importance as it provides
the data decision support system. The data decision support system is process of the data
sharing which helps in the executive management of the organization to make proper
decisions.
The information technology is also important in the operational stage of the
organization. The information technology provides the support of the communication, data
management, customer relationship management and in the inventory management of the
organization. Effective communication is very much important in the aspect of the
organizational structure. Without proper communication it is not possible to meet effective
communication. Data management is required for the organization to keep record of the
organizational operations. Customers are the most important assets for every organizations.
Thus effective management of the customer is important which is done by the information
technology. Inventory management helps the organization to effectively track and manage its
products or the services.
Problem Solving: In the organizational problem solving case, the transaction processing
system which is a part of information system, is used mainly for the purchase orders and for
the paychecks. The transaction processing system does not operate like the batch system
rather than it requires user interaction with the system on the real time basis. This system
requires the human interaction for collection, storing, retrieving and modifying the data. This
solves the transaction related problem of the organization. The decision support system is
also used in the business process to find a solution for a specific type of problem in the

organization. This system uses the predefined reports to support the planning for the
operation and to support the problem resolution decisions (Bonczek, Holsapple & Whinston,
2014). Using the decision support system, it is possible to evaluate the impact of a decision
without implementing the decision in the business. Thus it can rescue the business from a
prior risk.
The management information system is another system which used in the businesses
processes (Laudon & Laudon, 2016). The management information system can provide the
operational performance data of the business which includes the inventory and the sales data.
Also, this system is used for creating the prescheduled reports. This prescheduled report is
used in the business for tactical, strategic and operational planning. It helps to minimize the
inventory management problem in the business organization.
Gaining a Competitive Advantage: In the business sector, the information system holds
various types of competitive advantage over the others. Customer information system is one
of this advantage. The information system includes information about each of the users, and
this helps in the decision making and in action taking (Pearlson, Saunders & Galletta, 2016).
Another advantage of the information system is the real time information. The real time
information can be very much helpful in the production line of the businesses. If somehow a
production line stopped then the real time information system can quickly catch this
disruption which will help in the recovery process. Also, the adaptability of the information
system can help the overall business process. In many of the cases the system needs to be
upgraded, and this up gradation can be done without disrupting the overall system.
The information integration is mainly used for the integration of the key information
which includes the clinical information, management information and the policy decision
making (Anderson, 2014). There are various types of methods which can be used for

integrating the information in the system. This method includes the manual compilation of
the data, usage of the internet system and the automated system. Also, to integrate the
information into the system hardware-software architecture is needed as this will support the
integrated system by using a database. Another method of integrating the information into the
system is gathering the basic information form the key sources. Including this type of
information in the organizational information system also helps the organization to get
competitive advantage over the others. Clinical information can provide valuable information
to the origination by providing some accurate data about the customers. This actually
provides the needs of a customer. Thus by delivering the actual needs of the customer it helps
in the customer satisfaction which gives the organisation competitive advantage over the
others. In the context of management information system the CRM applications helps the
businesses to understand their customers effectively. The tools of social engineering helps the
organizations to get valuable information from the customers through social networking
platforms like the Facebook and Twitter. Policy decision making can help to get competitive
advantage in the organization. The policies helps the organization to set some attributes to the
product and services. By clear policies the customers will get clear idea about the products
and services. Thus it will help the organization to get competitive advantage.
