Trait theory
Question 1 response
Decisive. I have a decisive trait in leadership since once I have made up my mind to
perform a certain task or project, I don’t always hesitate to perform such project. For instance,
while choosing my career path, I had to make decisions from a series of suggestions from my
parents and resulted in my current career despite the suggested careers by parents.
Fair. I am always fair and just to my colleagues at work and to my family members since I
do treat everybody accordingly based on the rule of the land. My justice nature has enabled me to
treat people equally despite their social or financial status when seeking services at my office.
The incidence of justice in my life has been witnessed in my line of duty while offering to attend
to my clients.
Enduring. I pose endurance quality while dealing with the people and personal issues as I
have to understand and contain the organization’s hardships and financial problems. The trait is
witnessed through my ability to persevere and endure hardships in my place of work by
performing the risky tasks and working overtime without compensation.

Influential trait. The trait identified is necessary to improve my leadership skills since it
requires strong coaching and emotional intelligence and effective communication skills which

Yes. Based on my leadership skills, I am qualified as an effective leader. My decisive
skills will enable me to make rational decisions for the success of the organization without
hesitation. I will ensure justice as a leader by treating my staff members equally without any
discrimination based on their social class or financial status to enhance teamwork and focus on
the organization’s objectives.
To add, my endurance skill will qualify me as an effective leader as I can endure all the
working conditions and my staff behaviors to manage staff effectively despite the prevailing

Situational, transformational and servant leadership

In situational leadership, the manager is expected to adjust some of his leadership styles and
strategies to fit the development levels of his staff he is trying to influence. This type of
leadership will require a manager to lead the organization according to the culture and belief of
the staff members within the organization. The leadership is influenced by the competency,
maturity levels and the skill of the subordinate staff. The leadership is characterized by coaching,
changing according to the situation and courage. The styles associated with the situational
leadership includes telling, selling, participating and delegating (Dugan, 2017).
Transformational leadership entails encouraging, inspiring and motivating process to the
employees by their leader. The objective of this leadership style is to innovate and create change
that will help to grow and shape the future success of the organization.

Transformational leadership compromises of the following elements used by the manager
in managing the organization that is individualized consideration, intellectual stimulation,
inspirational motivation and idealized influence. Under this leadership theory, a leader is
expected to work with the team to identify the needed organizational change, creating a vision
for guiding the identified change thus through inspiration and lastly executing the change
(Meuser, et al., 2016).
Transformed leaders are expected to possess the following leadership traits that are
keeping their ego in check, self-management, and ability to take the right risks and promote new
ideas from the team. With such leadership skills, the effectiveness of be witnessed within the
organization.
Servant leadership is a philosophy in which the main goal of a leader s to serve. As a
servant leader, one is expected to develop such leadership qualities and skills in enabling them to
effectively serve the organization and employees, they include, listening, empathy, foresight and
commitment in organization operational activities (Rottmann, Sacks & Reeve, 2015).
The best example of a servant leader is mostly religious leaders like clergy and priest. They are
expected to serve believers by preaching and providing spiritual guidance to them to better their
lives and convince them to live a holy life according to the holy book.

Situational leadership can be considered the best leadership style to be adopted by the
organization. Out of the three discussed leadership styles, situational leadership outstand the rest
due to its qualities and impact it has on the employees and the leader. Situational leadership is
preferred since it deals with the current changing behaviors among employees behaviors based
on their competence, maturity level and skills which are bond to change hence changing with
such changes on the employee's traits will ensure effective leadership within the organization.
In addition, situational leadership is concerned with the set organization’s objectives as
opposed to the servant leadership which is based on the wellbeing of the servant hence by
adopting situational leadership, the organizational objectives will be achieved by the manager.

Based on personal experience in conducting spiritual guidance in the community, I had to
apply the servant leadership approach to effectively administered spiritual counselling to the
disadvantaged members of the society by giving them hope of good life that is eternal life in
reference to the holy bible. Servant leadership approach enabled me to listen and empathize with
the members I was serving based on their social condition hence I effectively offered my
spiritual guidance and counselling to them.

Identify a leader- power
One of the leaders who have positively used their power is the clergy while the identified
leader who has negatively used his leadership power is area representative leader.
Based on their personal motives of using such power, a clergy who is a servant leader has
been motivated by the oath of the office which he holds and also his personal leadership
principles which demand positive utilization of leadership power invested in him. Personal
leadership principle of a clergy motivates him to positively use his power to change the lifestyle
of the believers and offer spiritual guidance to people (Proidl & Dvorak, 2016).
A political leader has misused his powers due to the greed and lack of dignity. These two
factors have motivated him to take a lot from the public for his personal benefit which is against
the leadership style he uses.
Leadership scenarios
Scenario 1
Situational leadership style. The manager is expected to adjust his style to fit the
developmental level of that particular employee. This will be facilitated through the coach,
directing and encouraging trait of the leader.
Scenario 2
Behavior leadership style. The theory enables leaders to focus on the behavior changes of
their employee. In reference to the case provided, the manager will be able to identify the
behavior change of that particular employee while using this type of leadership.

Transactional leadership. These style advocates for motiving factors to employees. Based on
the scenario, the manager is expected to apply the transactional style in finding the best
motivating factors for employees.

Based on the scenario, the manager is expected to apply transformational style I finding the best
motivating factors for employees.
Scenario 5
Transactional leadership. Based on the employee’s behavior, it is evidenced that they lack
motivation and morale for the job as they are experienced and competent enough to perform their
duties effectively as required by the manager. By introducing motivational strategies, the leader
will be able to improve the performance of the employees.
Management profile
As a future leader, I would like to incorporate situational leadership skills in my practice to
enhance my leadership skill. Situational leadership theory will enable me to adjust some of my
leadership styles and strategies to fit the development levels of my staff. This will also enhance
my understanding of staff members as it is based on their maturity levels, skills and competency.
The skill will enable me to focus on organizational objectives and goals.

As a potential leader, I would like to possess and practice some of the leadership skill has
developed in my studies like competency, courage, understanding and endurance which are

Based on the leadership learning throughout the course, as a future leader, I will have to
