Introduction
Managers and leaders are those individual who are responsible for leading a group of people or
organisation, which helps to meet the organisational objectives and help in achieving goal. The
management and leadership perspective of the company Burberry, UK will be discussed in this
paper. It focuses on the development of several management science, scientific management and
administrative management to develop several skills in performing their work. It focuses on
increasing the behavioural status to promote the employee relationship, which plays an important
role in meeting the satisfaction and motivation level of the employee that influence the work
performance. On the development of its management and leadership, it focuses on developing

Leader is a person who is responsible to command and lead a group or an organisation and the
employees.
Characteristics and roles
The main characteristics of a good leader include honesty, sense of humour, efficient
communication skill, creativity, positive attitude, confidence, commitment and the ability of
delegate. The most important role of a leader relies on guiding employee while they are
performing their tasks (Ejimabo, 2015).
Leadership style
Autocratic leadership style: In this style, the task of decision-making is entirely centralised
within the leader and the leader is found to provide appropriate direction to the employee
regarding their task.

Democratic leadership style: In this type of leadership style, the employees of an organisation
are taking positive participation in the process of decision-making. Hence, it is known as
participative leadership.
Leasze fair leadership style: In this style, the leaders are found to be hand-off and it allows its
employee to make desirable decision. It is associated with the lowest productivity of
organisation (Holten and Brenner, 2015).
Transformational leadership style: In this style, the leader works with the employee to find out
needed changes that should be done for the favour of the organisation.

Taylor’s scientific approach: This approach is dealt with the analysis and synthesis of the task
flow within an organisation. This main element of this approach is development of scientific
selection, training and placement, which help to improve the functional foremanship.
The Burberry Company uses are approach for improving the economic efficiency and labour
productivity hence the wage of the employee become appropriate and better.
Henry Fayol administrative theory: It deals with proper planning and development of
appropriate organisational structure, which utilises the human and non-human recourses together
to work efficiently. It considers the organisation as a whole and independent unit. The Burberry
Company follow this theory to facilitate their organisational structure, promote their team
concept and motivate their employee to ensure the overall growth and development of the
organisation as well as the employee (Iqbal et al., 2015).
Hawthorne Studies: This study is associated with refocusing the managerial strategy with the
incorporation of socio-psychological aspect within the organisation. It helps to measure the
productivity of the worker in an organisation. It helps to recognise the causative factors, which
are associated with decreasing the working performance and it is related to resolving such
problem to improve the quality of the performing task. The Burberry Company adapt this study
to improve their performing skills and abilities.

Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey. In this theory, the leader of the organisation is found to

directing, coaching, delegating and directing employees to achieve the organisational goal and
objectives.
The Burberry Company uses this approach as it is easy to understand and easy to carry out. It
helps the leader to adapt his leadership style according to their follower, which will help to
direct, coach and motivate the employee, which are related with organisational development.
Contingency theory of leadership: It is another important theory of leadership, which is
developed by Fred Fiedler. The efficiency of this leadership is depending upon the appropriate
matching of the style of the leader with the right situation. It indicates that the effectiveness of
leadership is entirely based on the situation. The Burberry Company follow this theory to
increase the effectiveness of their leadership.
5. Motivational theory
Maslow motivation theory: The theory explains that there are basic five needs of individual,
which should be met for proper motivation of individual. Proper motivation is required for every
individual to improve his or her social, mental and physical status. Appropriate motivation cfan
be achieved by fulfilment of basic five needs, which include safety need, psychological need,
social need and need of esteem and self-actualisation (Stoyanov, 2017).
Herzberz motivation theory: It is another important motivational theory, which focuses on
motivating every individual by identifying, fulfilling his or her all daily needs, aims, and desires.
This is associated with adequate satisfaction of individual, which help to promote their personal
and professional development. The main principle factor of motivation in this theory is the
intrinsic value and satisfaction of individual gained from their job (Alshmemri et al., 2017).
Two-factor theory: This theory states that there are two factors present in this matter, the one
part is associated with achieving desire satisfaction of the individual from their job and the other
part is related with showing the dissatisfaction of that person. The satisfaction of the emotion of

It can be concluded that for effective running of any organisation it is essential to develop proper
leadership and management system, as it help to promote the development of the employee as
well as the organisation. The above-mentioned study has shown that Taylor’s scientific
approach, Henry Fayol administrative theory and Hawthorne Studies are the best management
theory.
