Management is the art of getting the work done with the organization with the help of
efficient workers or an organized groups. It helps in delegating the work among the people so
that it can result in completing it that will allow the organization in achieving its set of pre-
determined goals (Armsttrong and Taylor 2014). The use of management results in creating a
better internal environment that results in increasing the efficiency of the level of production.
The efforts that are put in by the people helps in ensuring that the raw materials are available
and that the organization follows certain rules and regulations so that the satisfaction level of
the employees can be increased (Brewster et al. 2016).
Mintzberg’s 10 managerial roles
Henry Mintzberg had laid down ten roles of manager that will help them to be
effective in nature. It will help in managing the structure and design of the organization in a
better manner. Mintzberg had divided the roles of manager in three different categories
known as Interpersonal contact, information processing and decision making (Kumar 2015).
The managers under the interpersonal contact needs to be a figurehead so that they
can understand and carry out the duties in a proper manner. The manager of the company
represent the external and internal matters that are happening within the organization. They
should also be a leader so that the employees can be motivated within the work floor. The
support given to the employees will help them in increasing the level of satisfaction within
the company as well (Laud, Arevalo and Johnson 2016). The manager is act required to act as
a liaison between the upper management and the employees so that it can result in effective
communication. The policies that are laid by the upper management needs to be
communicated with the employees and their feedbacks need to be passed in an appropriate
manner so that the working environment is friendly in nature (Ollila and Ystrom 2017).

In the information processing system, Mintzberg had added the roles that the manager
need to take up such as monitor the information that are being passed within the organization.
The monitoring process will help the employees to work in an efficient manner so that the
problems can be identified in an easy way and proper solutions can be provided. The use of
proper monitoring process by the manager will able help the organization in analysing the
opportunities that are present (Mintzberg 2015). The managers are also responsible to
disseminate the factual information to the subordinates as well as other employees so that it
can ensure the smooth functioning process. The information may be related to the internal or
external environment, which may affect the organization in a positive manner. They also
need to be spokesman so that the policies and procedures of the company can be
communicated with the outside world. This will result in increasing the level of performance
for the organization as well (Kumar 2015).
The decision making capabilities by the manager will enable them to be a better
leader within the organization so that the delegation of the work can be done. This will help
in increasing the level of efficiency of the company as well. Mintzberg had pointed out four
factors that will help the managers in carrying out the role in a proper manner. It is important
for the manager to be an entrepreneur so that they can initiate changes within the organization
(Mintzberg 2015). The changes that will be done needs to be communicated with the
employees so that their feedbacks can be collected and the feasibility of the initiation can be
analysed. Another role that the manager needs to take up is handling the disturbances in a
proper manner. Handling the problems in a better way will help in responding to the
unexpected events that may harm the internal as well as the external environment of the
organization (Laud, Arevalo and Johnson 2016).
The managers also need to allocate the resources of the organization in a proper way
so that the functioning of the department can be smooth. The finances and assigning the work

to the employees need to be taken care in a proper way so that it can ensure that the level of
productivity can be increased. It will also help the organization in serving the employees in
their best interest. They also need to be good negotiators so that the process of negotiation
between the third parties and the organization can serve in the best interest of the
organization. The salary of the employees also need to be negotiated in a proper way so that
they can stay motivated, which will help in increasing the level of production (Ollila and
Ystrom 2017).
