Introduction
Management is an activity wherein different activities of business are managed in such a
manner that predefined goals can be attained within stipulated period of time. Under this,
functions such as planning, organizing, directing as well as controlling are included for
ensuring future growth and success of business entity (Kurvinen, Töyrylä and Murthy,
2016). Operations management is related with managing daily activities of business in
productive & efficient manner. In the current report TESCO is taken into consideration
which is a renowned organization, offers variety of products such as clothes, mobiles,
groceries and more. The present report is based on roles & responsibilities of managers and
leaders along with the difference in their roles.

There are ample of management theory that are used by managers to manage workforce in
an efficient manner. In context of Sainsbury different management approaches are
mentioned below:
Management by objectives- It refers to alien business objectives with individuals
objectives working in company in order to maintain better coordination at work place.
Behavioural Management Theory: Here, managers prepare effective strategies in
order to manage human resources within company in a better manner. It refers to
understand the behaviour, needs, wants of employees to enhance their productivity and
efficiency and motivate them accordingly.

Classical management: Here, managers believe that employees only have physical and economical needs.
As per this, there are predefined ways to work which need to adopt in order to get work done on time. Here
main aim of managers is to earn profit due to this they treat employees like other resources and do not pay

such as Scientific management, Bureaucratic and Administrative management with some modifications in
order to manage work force in better manner within entity (Chary, 2017).

administer an organization & group of people. Functions of Manager of TESCO are given
as under:

important characteristic of manger wherein they are responsible for the after effects of their

Decision making ability: Managers of Sainsbury need to take a lot of decision on daily

decision accordingly.
Leader is a person who is responsible for guiding, leading as well as directing individuals
and groups in an efficient manner. Leader not only provides direction but also motivate
work force and track their performance constantly in order to get positive outcomes. In
context of TESCO main role of leaders are mentioned as under:
Developing vision: Main role of leaders is to develop and communicate the vision to
individuals in order to combine their efforts in right direction (Shen and et. al., 2019). For
this purpose, leaders of TESCO formulate vision by analyzing future circumstances in an
efficient manner.
