Core technology
The organization that has been chosen for assessment in this regard is Exxon Mobil, a
leading brand in energy and petrochemicals. The core technology that Exxon Mobil uses to run
its organizational operations is the ACS system (Bachriadi, & Suryana, 2016). This system
provide Exxon Mobil with a full range of services. This includes the server support for the
mainframe and the midrange servers. In addition, it provides support from the engineering and
data centres for the management of the facilities. ACS system handles the allowance or
disallowing of data and its management and control in the organization system, control and
facility.
Description of a chosen technology in a department
For the inventory management of Exxon Mobil, OLAP or Online Analytical Processing
technology is used. This ensures manipulation of information in the organization which would
further aide to the decision-making process of the organization.
Interdepartmental technology and connections
The technology used for interdepartmental connections in the organization of Exxon
Mobil is the ERP database management that provides interconnectivity with every other
department in operation (Forbes, 2016). ERP forms a unified database holding the information
processed each day through numerous other database inputs.

Recommendation for Technological implementation
It has been found that Exxon Mobil have been utilising age old procedures as their
business process functions. However, it should be noted that with the advancement of time the
business era transforms to advancements as well. Therefore, it is recommended that the
organization should also adapt to the newest social integration technologies in order to make
progress compared to its competitors.
VI. Decision Making Process
Incident of a “good decision” in an organization
The organization of Exxon Mobil retailers implemented the idea to make its business
process divisional and implementation of set business rules under a book self-published and
termed as the organization’s red book (Moll, 2015). These set business rules are termed as the 18
set principles which every person in the organization should abide by.
This is organizationally considered a good decision sine the business process will now be
able to be handled by functional hierarchy with ease and lessen the confusion within different
products. In addition, the employees from the higher to the lower posts will clearly be able to
carry on their tasks.

Exxon Mobil has been a huge name in the energy and petrochemical production market.
However, it had made some faulty choices in business as well. Since, the organization was
plagued with a pipeline defect for over the past 70 years, there was no decision taken to repair it.
Thus, in 2013, near a small town called Arkansas, thousands of barrels of crude oil busted
causing the ExxonMobil oil spill scandal (Michael et al., 2015).
This proves as a bad decision in the organization as, no decision taken even with
information of manufacturing defect implies that the organization had no intention of repairing
the incurred damage.
VIII. Final Recommendations
As per the report and analysis for the business process of Exxon Mobil, it could be
recommended that the business should implement technical business techniques as well besides
the age-old traditional business processes that the company follows. This would make the
business of the organization prosper and stand against its competitors.
