Identification of chosen Methods to be used in Research
Introduction
Research is an essential parameter in this digital world. As a result of appropriate and
reliable implementation of research, quite a number of ideas and solutions have been able to
emerge thus making sure that different negative issues taking place within the surrounding
environment are appropriately solved to enable a smooth operation of quite a number of issues
(Benfield and Szlemko 2016). Moreover, the final outcome that is likely to emerge from any
type of research fully depends on the chosen methods of implementation that the entire research
is likely to use in order to gather more information than can be further used in the analysis of
quite a number of situations. At the same time, the identification of research methods is a
condition that requires quite a number of procedures to be followed keenly by making sure that
no assumption is made in order to make the final results to be more reliable as much as possible
thus providing an easy time during the analysis stage. Issues dealing with ethical considerations
should be well addressed most so when implementing quite a number of steps that can be used to
come up with appropriate and reliable research methods. Ethical considerations within a research
method tend to create some boundaries in relation to some of the issues and operations that the
methods should be able to give the first priority to come up with the intended results within the
shortest time possible together with those factors that should be avoided as much as possible in
order to minimize the interference with the results that is likely to emerge in the coming future
(Hanson et al. 2015).
Chosen methods
In relation to what is contained within a research is concerned, my two major chosen methods of
research majorly include the use of observation together with the use of questionnaires. These

two methods mainly involve the use of approaches that are totally different in order to gather
information from different sources in relation to a particular condition. Moreover, they also
involve the implementation of quite a number of steps right from the beginning to the very end
thus trying as much as possible to maintain their relevancy that is associated with the topic of
study. An approximated percentage of almost 80% of various types of research have been able to
appropriately make good use of these two major methods of research and what is more
impressive is that the final outcome has always been quite amazing thus ensuring that all the
targeted goals are met within the correct time frame (McIntyre and Ryans 2016).
Observation method of research
Quite a number of reasons were able to drive me towards choosing this research method despite
the existence of quite a number of methods that can also be used in the analysis process and
collection of information about various scenarios. Observation method of research is known to
be a method that majorly relies on viewing and recording of quite a number of issues together
with behaviors that are capable of being shown by a wide range of participants. One of the major
reasons as to why I have decided to pick on this method is because it is more reliable and
efficient. The top-down approach is one of the most fundamental theories attached to the
observation method. It involves taking an advantage of a general idea and then working it down
into some form of hypothesis that can be tested to give appropriate results.
At some point, it is always known to be capable of emerging as a systematic observation
method which clearly indicates that the observation techniques applied in this method appears to
be sensible and replicable type of procedures that aims towards making sure that the entire
research is produced according to the intended outcome (Brush and Vanderwerf 2016).

Moreover, observational methods normally put much concentration in observing quite a number
of participants in terms of the behaviors that they are capable of showing (Grove and Fisk 2016).
Observation method of research is known to be having quite a number of advantages that tend to
make it the preferred method of research in almost every situation (Morgan 2016). One of the
major advantages of this data collection method is that it is simple. The use of observation is
apparently on of the most common and the simplest method of data collection technique. As a
result of this, its implementation does not require quite a number of technical knowledge in order
to come up with the desired outcome (Bruce 2017). In as much as scientific controlled
observation requires the use of certain technical skills, it still appears to be much easier when
compared to the other methods of research (Sonnad et al. 2013). On the other hand, another
advantage that is attached to observation method of data collection is that it is much useful when
coming up with different forms of hypothesis. Normally, observation appears to be one of the
strongest bases when it comes to the formulation of different types of hypothesis (Kaltenthaler et
al. 2014). By carrying out a continuous observation in relation to a particular phenomenon, there
is a high probability that the researcher is likely to get well acquainted with whatever that is
observed in the whole process. The researcher normally concentrates in knowing more about the
issues affecting them with the major ones being their problems, habits together with their
perceptions. All these parameters provide much contribution when it comes to the formulation of
hypothesis towards the targeted groups of personalities.
Finally, another advantage that is known to be attached to the observation method of
research is that it always tries as much as possible to be independent on individual’s willingness
when it comes to reporting of various matters (Dashiff 2016). It does not always require the
willingness of a specific targeted group of people in order to provide various forms of

information that are attached to them. It is much clear that there are always some respondents
who don’t feel at ease to speak about themselves most so when they are asked questions by an
outsider. At the same time, there are those individuals who do not have an appropriate time or
required skills that can be used in the provision of important information to the researcher.

In this method of data collection, the use of experiments is always eradicated as much as
possible thus making sure that there is no manipulation of any form of variables as much as
possible. As far as the ethical considerations for observation is concerned, it is always carried out
without influencing or altering the surrounding environment together with all its participants in a
manner that is likely to affect them in a negative way (Laing et al. 2016). Normally, the
researchers who have decided to use these methods always take much of their time to make good
use of all their senses in the observation of the targeted group of participants in two different
types of environment which normally include a natural setting or even a situation that is naturally
occurring.
The use of Questionnaires
The use of questionnaires is one of the most fundamental research instruments that fully
rely on quite a number of questions with an intention of gathering a wide range of information
that is obtained from the respondents. At some point, the questionnaires can be brought inform of
written interview that is presented to the respondents and at the same time, it is also capable of
being implemented through the use of a face to face conversation with the targeted parties.
The theory that is attached to the use of questionnaires is known as the bottom up theory
that majorly focuses on the on specific measures thus ending up with conclusions that are

generalized. One of the major reasons as to why I have decided to choose this method is because
it is a quick efficient way that can be used to obtain large amounts of information most so when
dealing with a larger sample of various targeted groups of personalities. As a result of this, the
entire data is capable of being collected relatively quickly since there is no need for the
researcher to be present when the respondents will be responding to the questions. Moreover,
questionnaires also tend to be en efficient means when it comes to the measurement of different
types of behaviors together with the attitudes and preferences across various individuals. As far
as the ethical considerations are concerned, the use of questionnaires normally tries as much as
possible to maintain the privacy of each and every respondent thus providing them with an easy
time to appropriately answer all the questions that are asked in relation to the mode of
questionnaires presented to them (Paradis et al. 2016).
The use of this method of data collection is known to be having quite a number of
advantages that have always contributed towards the emergence of reliable results. One of the
major advantages that are attached to the use of questionnaires is that they are always cheap. The
use of questionnaires normally appears to be one of the most affordable techniques when it
comes to the gathering of quantitative forms of data most so when implementing the self-
administered questionnaires where there is no need to depend on any type of surveyor who is
capable of carrying out various forms of face to face interviews. On the other hand, the use of
questionnaires is an advanced technique that is practical in nature. As a result of this, they can
always be directed towards a specific group of preference where it will be further managed
through the use of various techniques (Junge and Dvorak 2016). Moreover, the use of
questionnaires normally entails an easy analysis and visualization of various parameters. Quite a
number of questionnaire providers are normally quantitative in nature and as a result of this they

always tend to allow an easy analysis of the entire results. With the implementation of quite a
number of built-in tools, it is always easy to carry out an analysis of various forms of results
without relying on any form of background statistics thus making sure that the entire research
process is capable of emerging as a success by providing one of the most advanced solutions that
targets solving quite a number of issues. These issues majorly involve the ones taking place
within the surrounding environment. In conclusion, the use of both the observation and
questionnaire methods of data collection appears to be among the most reliable parameters that
can be appropriately utilized within any research to make sure that vast information is obtained
within the minimum time possible. Due to this, the two parameters needs to be given a perfect
consideration most so when dealing with quite a number of researches since they have the
capability of being diverse in their mode of operations thus making sure that each and every
situation is handled perfectly.
