Self-reflection is one of the best means through which all the individuals can learn
different, lessons based on their experiences. I have taken part in many of the seminars
conducted by the University. It is through these seminars that we have been able to understand
the different areas of strengths and weaknesses present within us. There were many different
seminars dealing with different activities like that of CV selecting, spotting of the errors in the
CV. The STAR technique is one of the most widely used methods that will be helping in order to
talk about the different experiences and the lesson that I have learned during the course of the
seminars. The first activity that we took up in the seminar was spotting the errors in the CV. The
STAR technique can be used in order to find out the details that have been learned in this CV.
Team Working and Verbal Communication
SITUATION
The situation was that we were given the task of spotting out the major mistakes or in the
CVs of the students. This is a very important activity and has to be carried on properly with a
great concentration. I was working as the leader of my team. Thus, I knew that a thorough verbal
communication and team work have to be used in this case.
TASK
The task was mainly to find out the faults or the errors that have been made in the essay.
As we were given many different CVs and each of the CVs had different types of mistakes.
Thus, the situation needed to be handled in a peaceful manner, group discussion was a very
important aspect of this activity.

APPROACH
Communicating everyday
The approach that I took was a proper collaboration between all the team members. In
order to do this a thorough verbal com munication was of utmost importance. I made it a poisnt
to knew that this task is a complicated one and can be carried on properly only with the proper
cooperation among each other. Communication is always helpful in team building. I thought that
each and every decision must be taken by conducting a proper communication with all the team
members.
Establish team rules
I asked all my team members to discuss with each other before they are proceeding for
any final steps. This will really be very helpful in finding out the errors. I saw that all the
members of the group were trying to talk to each other in order to find out the errors. After
applying this approach out was seen that the entire task was carried out properly and there were
several errors that we could spot. I established some team rules like
Each and every member must talk with each other in a proper manner.
There must be a thorough communication without any hesitations
Proper decorum is being followed
Proper division of the work among all the members
There were errors in the picture used by the student. The picture was not a professional
one; it was a very casual photograph and not fit for any professional purposes. The writing style
of the CV was not in a proper way. The language was not up to the mark and the tone was

unprofessional. Thus it is needed for the student to work over the writing skills while making a
CV for any professional purposes.
Recognize and reward
I knew that in order to establish a proper team working culture I need to motive and encourage
all the team workers. Thus, I made sure that all the team members are getting proper rewards and
recognition for their effort.
RESULT
Thus, the result is that the group activity was carried on properly and the errors were also
spotted out. Thus, I realized that my team working capability is high. I was able to interact with
each of my team member and also support them constantly. As it was a very tough and
complicated job, I provided them with the moral support and also all the resources that they
needed. I will be using them in all future endeavors. I have also realized the mistakes that are not
to be made in the making of any professional CV.
Critical thinking
The next seminar needed all the students to use the critical thinking capability. These are
mainly because in the next seminar we were asked to select the CV as per our preferences from
the viewpoint of a potential employer.
The STAR technique was again used in order to do the reflection over this matter.

The task was to categories the CVs in the correct order. This would help the potential
employers to know who can be the right candidates for the work and who are to be invited for
the interview. I was working as part of this seminar and I remember being instructed by the
seniors that proper communication and critical thinking are two most crucial things needed for
this work. The critical thinking was necessary because one of the members might find one of the
CV to be worthy enough whereas the same CV might be rejected by the other. Thus a critical
thinking capacity was needed.
Task
The task started and I was really facing a tough time in categorizing the CVs. I thought that this
was a really tough task.

The approach I took was to question the assumptions that we often make. In other words,
I had to make sure that I am not taking any decisions based purely on the assumptions. I made
sure that before reaching to any particular decision I am trying to question myself. I was often
having problems in doing this work as I was feeling hesitant in consulting with others. I realized
that I have to be much more critical and constantly question my decisions as well. As a result of
this, I took some more time than others in finishing these tasks. This was mainly because I
lacked the critical thinking capacity. I was depending too much on the assumptions rather than
questioning them.

Result
The result was that I came to know about some of the strengths and the weaknesses of me
while doing this work. I also realized that I have to work much more on my critical thinking
capacity. I have to keep a proper connection with the opinions of other members of my team so
that I am able to get some good tips and also incorporate the same within my work. I also
realized that I will have to work over my interpersonal skills in order to become a good potential
employer in the coming years.

Adaptability Skills and Problem solving skills
Situation
I was given the task of shortlisting the best CV among two, as was forwarded by the HR
department. As we are working in the procurement firm as the managers there is a chance that I
will have to face many hurdles. In order to do that I will have to develop the adaptability skill so
that I can put up with all the new changes and strategies.
Task
The other seminar was about selecting the best CV out of the two that would be suitable
for being called at the interview. Adaptability skills are one of the major aspects that must be
developed for smooth and proper group work.
Approach
The approach that I used was to develop a proper problem-solving method. There was a
problem in selecting the right CV out of the two. This was mainly because of the fact that there
were some of the other mistakes in each of the CV. As a result of this, there was a problem and
mismatch among the opinion of the managers. I was not able to agree to the viewpoint and the
decisions taken by the other managers and vice versa. As a result of this, I had to develop a
proper problem-solving skill.

The result was that I finally could solve the problem by selecting the CV of Joanne

This was group work and needed a good interpersonal skill. I had to make sure that I am
communicating well with my teammate and at the same time trying to find out the skills that the

before reaching to any final decision. I made sure that each and every individual is taking part in
the team meetings.
Result
The result is that I realized my interpersonal skill is strong. I will be able to use the same
in the later stages of my life. I have been able to communicate with my team mate at regular
intervals. This is one the major aspects that is needed by the employees in their day to day life. I
have been able to develop a good communication and understanding skill.
Thus, it can be concluded that the seminars have been very helpful for me. I have been
able to gain a good knowledge regarding the areas of my improvement. I will try to work on
them by moving forward in a step by step manner. Communication skills improvement has been
one of my greatest achievements in these seminars. I have improved in the communication skill
and also develop a good level of self confidence.
