INTRODUCTION
Growth of managers and employees in every field of organization is important in today’s era.
Due to the high increase in competition, in order to cope up with the environmental changes
though they are personal or professional progress of human power is highly needed. A better
opportunity is provided in career of managers by exploring various skills and talents by
organizational manager in workplace. With the help of leadership styles delivery of work is done
by managers. Focusing on travel and tourism sector, in this report leadership styles are
elaborated. How managers help the employees to grow in place of work by exploring their skills
and talents by assigning some duties and responsibilities, and by which growth of manager takes
place is highlighted. To maintain the success of workplace growth of employees including
managers are highly demanded and appreciated by maintaining communication, encouraging
teams, discipline, skills, etc., to understand with detail, hospitality, travel and tourism are
selected in this report.
TASK1
1.1 Comparison of different management styles
In this report, two sectors are elaborated with discussions by comparing their management styles
and execution of work this task.
Management styles in British airways: After easy jet, British airways are the second largest
Airline when comparing with passengers. In other words, services that are provided by British
Airways is one of the largest organization in UK. Approximately 150 destinations are served by
the airways by meeting the satisfactions of clients. Due to the economic downturn, organization
faced lot of problems in the year 2005, as they were the verge of bankruptcy. Here, management
of Willie Wash helped the organization to overcome the critical situation by executing smart way
of handling terms. Effective planning and coordination among workers and other staff helped
organization to come over the difficulties and meet the results effectively and efficiently.

Management in Jury’s Inn: In oxford, 4star hotel which is called as Jury’s Inn, located in
Oxford is huge presence in sector of hospitality. It has around 4106 hotels, with 63547 rooms.
Forbes ranked the organization as 15th rank in UK in 2015. By following and focusing on active
Management style, managers of this hotel perform their duties, roles and responsibilities
deliberately to make guests comfortable and happy positive and sound environment is presented
by managers and other staff. All the necessities are rendered within short period of time which
resulted in positive response and feedbacks by which motivation among employees are generated
(Hunt and Weintraub, 2016). By taking work that is demanded by guests, Managers helps other
staff by guiding them the way of execution of work effectively and efficiently. Jury’s Inn widely
focused on four major factors for motivation and satisfaction by the job, those are
responsibilities, achievement, advancement and working on it deliberately.
Comparison of management styles: Active management is far different from the coercive
management style. Satisfactions of employees are focused on active management style. On the
other side, pressure, stress and burden are felt and experienced by coercive management style,
also employment has to complete their orders and also, there was absence of rights of decision
making.

1.2 Leadership characteristics within 2 organizations
Both the coercive and active management styles take place in selected organization respectively.
Managers of Airline and hotel industry have wider source of work to perform assigned duties for
others also. They are detailed as follows:
Coercive leadership style in British Airlines: leaders of this organization have to explore their
work from the front. Orders are given to the subordinates for execution of work. Roles and
responsibilities are described to employees according to their skills, talents and knowledge.
Hence, huge pressure and burden are faced by leaders of British Airlines, as getting the work
done is challenging factor. Supervision is to be done appropriately by taking active initiative in
each and every group of workers. In case of critical situation, leaders are faced burden in order to
overcome. Weakness of every subordinate including overall staff is focused by leaders to bring
out the hidden talents and know about their knowledge. This step of leaders enables them to get
execution of work from team.
Active leadership style in Jury’s Inn: To employee, active leadership style, the leader is very
cordial and amicable to employees comparing to other methods. This style enables to make the
working environment healthy and smooth by which execution of work becomes very easy and
free. In Jury’s Inn leaders perform their duties by motivating and encouraging staff and
employees by rendering them effective rewards and awards as per time demands (Daley, Coyle

and Dwyer, 2016). This creates willingness in other employees to perform their given tasks
effectively and efficiently. Leaders remain very calm and focused, and help employees with
minimum and effective communication by maintaining discipline and work towards, for
consumers or guests.
Roles and responsibilities are given to juniors as per their willingness and talents, by
which effective decisions are also taken by juniors when needed.
There is absence of a junior decision as they have to follow the rules of higher authorities
only. They remain strict towards junior staff.
1.3 Processes of communication in selected business
Communication plays a vital role while delivering services to consumers. For the effective
running of any businesses, communication is to be clear and efficient to deliver and get
knowledge and information. There are types of communication that are opted by different
organizations. In this report relating to British Airways and Jury’s Inn, two types are detailed by
which effective knowledge can be gathered. For the processes of sharing knowledge and
information and running organization smoothly without disruptions communication types are
used widely by both.
Downward communication: The processes of sharing information or details from a higher level
of managers to lower level of employees or subordinates are termed as downward
communication. Relevant examples for such communications: With the help of Emails, notice
boards, meetings at skip levels and conferences etc., within a very short period of time reply to
seniors managers have to be made by juniors when they get mail from them. On the other side,
senior managers also have the rights to call junior employees at any time.
Upward communication: From the lower level of employees, information, knowledge or
updates which is relating anything is given to senior managers or authorities.
Examples of channels of communication: Though Emails are very basic method
communication those are used in both the organizations. Any kind of reports that are sent weekly
or daily status to seniors. In order to raise any kind of concern or issue communication channel is
needed by employees. With the help of Emails, these are fulfilled.

Horizontal communication: When employees communicate among same level is called as
horizontal communication (Sander and Caza, 2015). This type of communication includes any,
discussions relating or non relating to work also.
Examples of communication channels in Jury’s Inn and British Airways: Any kind of
chatting in groups, discussions, meetings, E mails etc, use to share knowledge and information.
Employees when engaged in same activities, remain, friends, as that creates healthy and sound
relation in the business environment.
1.4 Organizational culture and changes in selected businesses
Motivation level of employees and behaviour of organization completely depends upon the
organization culture that is maintained and followed by workers. Vision, mission, language,
beliefs, culture, values and habits that are followed within organization can be defined as
organization culture. To maintain a friendly and healthy organization, the flat structure should
opt. This is possible only when, there is an absence of hesitation among workers and managers

of same organization helps in providing suitable culture for employees by allowing managers
with certain roles and responsibilities to meet employee satisfaction primarily. Satisfaction of
subordinates helps a lot in Jury’s Inn to discover nuances and achieve great heights.
Organization culture of British Airways: Lots of changes are made in decisions to provide a
positive and effective environment for employees to bring out the decided outcomes. Hence, the
satisfaction of employees are considered utmost, lots of efforts are done by authorities of British
Airways by providing opportunities according to their talents and skills. To get good results from
previous one’s projects are changed frequently by which consumer expectations can also be
fulfilled. Any kind of organizational change led to market oriented culture in British Airways.
Satisfaction of employees with change in organizational culture resulted higher in attention rate
from consumers while comparing to other organization.

2.1 Assessment by own management skill performance.
In order to develop leadership and management skills, and to perform accordingly in career by
being developing manager, it is highly needed to develop required skills. To develop skills and
knowledge, necessary training and observations have to be done. This can be done through
friends or outsiders or any others. With the help of reading informative books, skills can also be
boosted. One of the major factors is leadership style that impacts widely on developing
managers. Keen knowledge on autocratic leadership styles, democratic leadership styles one
person can manage his decisions by taking own instead of coming into influence. At the working
place, right decision at the right time is highly appreciated. Only with some profession, these
leadership styles opt, but not for all.

In many organizations, democratic leadership styles are focused wider as it is quite flexible
compared to others. To develop needed skills of leadership, some of the organizations also
provide training and practical knowledge to managers to perform effectively and gain much.
With the help of these gained practical knowledge or training, execution of work is explored at
large. Apart from these factors, personal skills, negotiation skills can also be developed with time
and experience. For each and every leader knowledge is significant, though it is not only subject
to study or learns. There is also presence of technical knowledge, political connectivity, impact
of environment and many more that should be well understood by individual (Smith and Dodds,
2017).

2.2 Analysis of personal strength, weakness, opportunities and threats.
Though developing managers have lots of talent, skills, and knowledge and negotiation abilities;
there are some merits and demerits that re faced by developing managers that have been detailed
in this report for better elaboration.
Strength: Developing managers are expertise in their field of work. They have proper and
effective knowledge to perform innovations their way of execution of work. By managing all
employees at junior and senior level developing manager focus on goals and objectives that are
set previously. Considering the location of business to wider, managers perform with their
experience and terms of negotiation. One of the major strength that developing manager has is,
they have the ability to add value to the quality of work they render towards consumers.
Weakness: with all the internal factors, greatest weakness faced by managers are, they lack in
terms of exploring themselves in marketing. Due to impatience and over confident they have
fear to lose reputation also. Reputations of manager which can be either positive or negative have
a direct impact on the business environment.
Opportunities: Advancements of technology have provided many opportunities for developing
managers to explore themselves at large. In order to gain more profits, developing managers can
move towards profit improvements. This will definitely result in an enhancement in
organizations result.
Threats: comparing to others they have fewer channels of distributions of service. Lack of
knowledge and skills can create a hindrance.

2.3 Objectives and target to develop own potential.
To develop personal skills, it is very prominent to create a plan with development with set and
clear objectives. These development plans have been detailed.
Increase democratic leadership skills: All the decision making factors are involved in democratic
leadership skills. The name, itself mention its culture of execution of work. To achieve the
targeted objectives and goals decision making process acts as important factors ( Isaga, Masurel
and Van Montfort, 2015 ).
Developing negotiation skills: with experience, those are available to developing managers lead
them to effective negotiation skills. The personal skills required for developing managers include
interpersonal skills including negotiation. It is important to include these characteristics in the

and evaluated within a specific period of time.
Developing communication skills: to manage the hospitality business and airways business, the
importance of communication need not to ne detailed. Without effective communication success
of these businesses cannot be imagined. By understanding the needs and demand of consumer
businesses should be performed effectively and efficiently.

3.1 Lead and motivate a team to achieve agreed goal or objective.
Primary duty of developing managers is to frame policy and regulations in order to achieve the
objectives and goals that are previously set. By making effective and efficient decisions,
managers have to ensure some roles and responsibilities by ascertaining to lower level
employees to execute their results on desired time.
Recognizing individual differences: There are specific differences among individuals in an
organization. Developing managers have primary work to identify the differences and assign
roles and duties to employees according to their skills, talents and knowledge. With the help of
employee’s talent, skills and work experience, developing managers motivates and encourages
workers to perform the given tasks, by which hidden talents are also explored. Also from time to
time to maintain efficiency, employees are rewarded and awarded (Akrofi, 2016).
Matching people with their skills: work is given by developing managers by well knowing
about employee’s way of execution of work and dedication.
Using the goals to ensure the characteristics of employees: The main characteristics of
developing manager are to ensure about the goals and objectives are achieved within framed
time; to do so, employees are designated with specific roles and responsibilities by asking them
to fulfil some targets.
Ensuring that the assigned goals are achievable: Work is designated only to those workers or
