P2 comparison of the role and function of the leader and manger in different situation
Technological Changes
In case of “Volden” if there is any technological change like marketing technology
through social sites or digital marketing then its manager's job is to make that change with in
the organisation by introducing the same method with the firm. And after that its leader's job to
guide the team member about the use of the updated technology, and if needed the leader will
introduce the learning session for the members about how to use it, and the benefits about the
3
Document Page
method so that they can understand easily and can relate to the technological change and
motivate them to work hard (Whittle and Myrick, 2016).
Sales Decrease
In case of “Volden”, if the company is not making any profit, and also the sales of the
beer is also decreasing, then the manager will introduce the changes within the firm by
appointing new employees in the firm, for better production, and also by changing the method of
selling, and making the plan for completing the task, now its leader's duty to motivate and guide
the new employees so that they can understand the task and can do it properly. And also to guide
the new as well as the old employee to follow the new method, like selling the beer online. Now
for guiding them, the leader will introduce a small session to teach them how to use that
particular site for the promotion and for the marketing of the product (Smart and et.al., 2015).
Work Load
Some time there is a session for a particular product, like in case of “Volden” the demand
of beer is the winter session more, and also in any occasion like wedding. So the work load for
the company automatically increases. So now manager will appoint the work to the employees,
and the employee has to do the task on time no matter what. But a leader will make the plan, and
distribute the work equally to the team members by their capability. Firstly team leaders do
meeting, to distribute the work, they discuss about the no. members in particular team, and how
much is their capability to do the work. And then distribute the work into the teams, and then
team leaders distribute it to the team members, that is how leader make the task done easily
(Rijo, Martinho and Ermida, 2015).
Employee Turn over
Some times it happens that because of some reason employee left the company, or the
company requires a no. of employee and they are unable to appoint that much. Now in this
situation the manager will bring up the new ideas or methods to appoint new employee to the
company like giving incentives to the employee whose friends or family member is being
appointing in the company by giving references about the post of the company. And by
marketing about the vacancy through social sites, or using any other online applications. And
leader's job will be by asking the problem which is being faces by the employee who wanted to
leave the company, and also by solving that problem (Caporarello, Magni and Pennarola, 2018).
Like if the employee is not getting the enough salary, or the environment is not adjustable, or the
4

fellow mates are not supportive. Then the leader job is to listen the problem and if the company
can help them, than the leader took the decision to help them, and motivate them so that they
wont leave the company.
P3 Different theories and models of approach, including situational leadership, system leadership
and contingency.
Situational Leadership
it is a flexible leadership also known as adaptive leadership. This leadership is not based
on the particular skills of the leader instead of that here leader can reorganize the management
style as per the existing work environment. Leaders can change one style to another to meet the
requirements of the employees as well as Volden company (Burns, 2016).
Two models of situational leadership are described by Daniel goleman and Ken Blanchard and
Paul Hershey.
The Goleman Situational Leadership
Coaching leaders- they work for individual's personality and growth and developing skills
related to job performance. This is best for the people who their capacity and ready for change.
Democratic leaders- these are the kind of the leaders of Volden company. who give right
to vote to their followers almost for every decision. This leadership gives the flexibility and
responsibility in the group .thus ,this style is time-consuming.
Affilative leaders-This style usually works when the Volden's employees morale is low.
the leaders praise their performance and helps to build the confidence of the team. This style
leads poor performance when the team building procedure is going on (Jennings and Stahl-Wert,
2016).
Authoritative leaders- Volden's leaders who are very good at evaluating problem and
recognizes the challenges. this style is good when organization is drifting without any aim.
Ken Blanchard and Paul Hershey situational leadership
This second level of the model based on work done by Blanchard and Hershey. it
basically focused on the leadership itself as well the development of the follower (Hazen and
et.al., 2018).
Telling leader=S1(particular guidance and scrutinized)-these leaders of Volden
communicate and make decisions and create roles and responsibility and expect others to

accept and follow them. here communication is generally one way .most effective style in
disaster as well when repetitive tasks are required.
Selling =S2(explaining and persuading) =these leaders of Volden also create roles and
responsibilities for the followers but also they are open for the new suggestion as well opinions.
They can sell their ideas in order to build cooperation (Bratianu and Vatamanescu, 2017).
System leadership
system leadership enables the leaders of the Volden to design the conditions where
employees of all the level can work productively and efficiently as per their potential. it creates
models for good leadership, organizational strategy and social progress as well system design
with the help of sound principle using human behaviour. it can provide tools that will help to
understand people behaviour within the Volden Company.
Leaders can provide good working culture for the people, so they work efficiently and
productivity. Leaders provide training to the employees according to their capacity so that they
enhance their skills which helps to their further carrier growth (Hawkins, 2017).
Contingency leadership
it is a special type of leadership. It states that leaders' success does not depend on his
abilities. According to this people who have different activities perform better. This theory
assumes that behaviours of particular person can not be changed or modified. Sometimes
situational- leadership contradict and due to this there is a frustration came and hard for the
leader to adapt the situation. Model of contingency theory as follows.
Fred Fielder's contingency model
Basically it highlights on the contingent model of leadership in organization. As this model tells
the relationship between and the favourable-Ness and leadership style of the situation (Morgan,
Fletcher and Sarkar, 2019).
Leader member relationship- this relationship posses high if leaders is generally respected by the
people.
Degree of task structure-the clarity of task measured and methods to achieve the end product.
Positional power- measures the amount of authority of leader which highlights the productivity
of the people.
Factors that strengths the contingency theory.
It is usually created leadership profile for the organizational.
6

it focused on the combination of the different styles as well situation of the leadership.
Above contingency theory emphasis the volden company that different people have different
abilities and perform their task efficiently (Catton and et.al., 2018).
LO 3
P4 Key approaches to operations process and the role of leader and manager
TQM(Total Quality Management)
TQM approach is basically an approach which focuses on success on the long term basis
through the satisfaction of the costumer. This approached mainly focuses on Costumer- Just like
any other businesses Volden's costumers are the one who can increase or decrease the the growth
of the firm. No matter what strategy “Volden” may apply to increase the productivity or the
quality of the firm , if the costumer like it, then and then only it'll grow, otherwise it won't. In
this principle manager will introduce new schemes to attracts more customer, and the leader
will motivate the employee to do marketing in positive way. And also to make sure that no
employee will get any negative image about the product, otherwise if they are not sure about the
product how they'll gonna advertise about it to other (Whittle and Myrick, 2016).
Total employee involvement:- “Volden” every employee of the firm should participate in
every activity of the firm, So that the target achieving activity can be easily achieve. And every
employee will participate in every activity if they get the proper environment to work, and also
some incentives for some work. These are the things which attract the attention or the interest of
the employee to work. In this principle manager will introduce the schemes like incentives, and
the leader will interact with the employee so that any issue or problem can be solve.
Process Centered:- Like any other businesses “Volden” also have a particular process to
get the outcome. Like analysing, planning, working, and then the output. So if “Volden” is
following the particular process for the outcome or for achieving the goal, then and then only the
firm can get the expected result, if they shuffle the steps of the process, then it will be very hard
to achieve it. For example, a company is first planning the plan, and then analysing the market,
then it'll gonna cost them time, also the money. So every thing has its own steps of process, and
have to follow it accordingly. In this principle also manager's duty is to analyse the condition
and make a proper plan to implement, and leader's responsibility is to guide that plan and
strategy to the team members (Caporarello, Magni and Pennarola, 2018).
7
Document Page
Integrated System:- “Volden” has different- different department, every department has
its own work, but the organisation means the combination of all department. And integrated
system also means integrating all the department together for the better result.
Strategic and systematic approach:- Any goal requires a proper process to achieve it. And
this process includes the strategy and that too in a systematic way. If there is strong strategy for
any goal, and “Volden” is following that strategy in a systematic way then and then only the goal
will achieve. In this principle also Manager's duty is to make strategy and leaders have to make
sure that strategy is being followed systematically by the employee (Hazen and et.al., 2018).
Continual improvement:- Like every other firm “Volden” also requires changes on the
basis of time. Because time change, need change, demand change, product change. So if
“Volden” wanted to be flexible and also want to grow in the market, there should be proper
amount of changes the firm. Continual Improvement in the firm is very necessary in any firm.
Here also manager will observe the market and make a plan for changes like what sort of
changes is required and at what amount, then that report is being transferred to the leaders, and
then leaders make sure that those changes should be done in effective manner.
Fact-based Decision making:- For taking any decisions the leaders, or managers should
keep the facts in mind. Facts like if “Volden” increase the price of Beer possibility of loosing
costumer will be high. So they should increase the price in small amount. In this also manager
took care about the fact and take the decisions and leader make sure that every employee should
work on that decisions.
Leaders and managers play a vital role in managing overall quality of the work as well as
overall cost involved in it. TQM requires team efforts headed by their leaders. Leaders in total
quality management act as a person who inspire others and remove all kinds of hindrance.
There are various ways in which leaders improve effectiveness of operation management
which helps them to successfully meet business objectives. Leaders help in aligning operation
management with companies’ objectives which helps the organization in achieving
organizational goals and objectives. Leaders focus on aligning operation management with
organizations goals and objectives and translates its role in business operation. Other than this
leaders also align inventory control with operation management so that inventory can be
managed in an efficient manner.

Lean manufacturing also known as lean production, which focuses more on maximising
the productivity of the firm by minimising the wastage of the product. This approach emphases
on making changes in operations as per consumer needs. Identity value from customer's
perspective:- Like any other business “Volden” also survey about the customer that how much
they can pay for a particular product or a service. This is how they can save the loss of the
company. So basically survey about the market or the costumer is done by the manager, and the
planing to do the task is done by the leaders (Smart and et.al., 2015).
Map the value steam:- This require the flow of information for the productivity of the
product, and reduce the things which are not adding any value to the productivity. Like in
“Volden” unnecessary use of making individual package of individual bottle, so the manager
reduce the extra packaging of the individual bottle, here the manager will look after the plan,
and analysing which part is not beneficial, and the leaders will make sure everything is being
done according to the plan.
Create flow:- By reducing the functional barrier which are responsible for the reduction
of time of the productive of the product. Manager has to analyse the activity, and reduce the
functional barrier, and the leaders will make sure employees are following the same procedure
(Burns, 2016). Establish a pull system:- It means establishing a new product or industry
only if there is a demand, but Lean manufacturing focuses on push system, which means if they
producing the product they should know in advance that this will gonna work in that forecast
also. Here this decision is being taken by the manager by analysing, and leader discuss it with
employee and guide them to work accordingly (Bratianu and Vatamanescu, 2017).
Perform perfection with continual process improvement: - In this process manager look
after the root cause of the wastage of the productivity and make plans to substitute that step with
another which will lead to less wastage of the product, the leader look after about the training the
employee and guiding them to do accordingly.
