Introduction
The role of a manager in a company is perhaps the most significant one as it impacts the overall
performance of the organization. Companies manage the Managers and managers manage the
team. They carry the responsibility of the performance of their departments and its development
of its people. They work towards achieving the organizational goals.
Function of a manger
Function of a manger is to set objectives that are according to the aim of the company. They
have to organize and divide work in their department. Communication and motivation are two
important pillars that they have to keep in mind (Shahbazi et al., 2017). Lastly they have to
measure the performance of their team for the company’s achievements.
Planning and organizing- A manager is involved in planning out the action and the process of
execution of the plan. It’s a step by step process including an increase or decrease in existing
business process. Major area of planning and organizing are advertising, inventory, sales and
staff.
Communication- A manager has to guide the team about the work and the working procedures.
It also involves leading, motivating, communicating and encouraging. 70% of the employees
complain that their managers do not provide clear goals and direction that deviates the result
from the goal (Sidrat and Frikha, 2018).
Controlling and measuring- When everything is in place the manager will need to
continuously check results against goals. 41% managers complain that even when the targets are
set the team tend to deviate and many times underperforms (Sidrat and Frikha, 2018).
In this process a manager is not only performing its functions but also developing people to run
the organization with efficient skills.
Strategic management
It is about strategies for the managers to achieve a better performance. This also improves the
competitive advantage for their organization over others. Google Inc. is one such organization
that takes strategic management very seriously (Tremaine, 2016). Everything that happens is a
part of the strategic planning of their manager. It is a bundle of decisions and acts under taken

planning exercising appropriate strategies to attain sustainable competitive advantage (Pandey,
2016). It was found out that they are trying to adopt lean production methods to meet the target
with least wastage.
Good management always increase the productivity
Globalization and developing technologies are increasing the competition levels among the
industries. This is intensifying the pressure on developing better management techniques. The
hiring of best managers is very important. Productivity is directly linked to good management
(Guedes and da Conceição Gonçalves, 2019). A production company that does not periodically
measure the performance of the production and marketing department eventually loses its profit
to the competitors in the market.
When the managers stopped sharing the sales number, return of defective products with the shop
floor it created a negative impact by declining the manufacturing quality of the product.
Gradually the company’s profit dipped and market share see a major loss.
This also indicates that continuous evaluation and sharing of the information is one important
trait of a good manager. Skipping this step can bring the company in negative situation where the
company has to start all over again to gain the market share (Pandey, 2016). Big organizations
follow these steps effectively to meet the company goal and meeting the sale target.
A good manager gives competitive advantage over others
A competitive advantage is something that makes firms’ goods and services superior to all other
same products in the market. A profitable scenario in an organization is the best position in the
market against rivals as per Metz et al., (2017). An organization is at competitive advantage if
the profitability is above the average profitability of companies in same industry.
In a manufacturing company the managers keep a daily track of all activities by continuously
showing the team their performance through common mail. It helped in improving the
performance and achieving the daily target (Metz et al., 2017). The communication was very
