Introduction
Managers operating in retail establishments are required to undertake different types of actions and handle diverse
sets of responsibilities associated to recruitment and selection of staffs, development of training programs,
management of retail budgets, handling of customer complaints and thereby in generating of effective solutions,
ascertaining and management of inventory, maintenance of relations with the head office of the retail store,
development of internal promotions, conducting of performance appraisal and monitoring mechanisms, development
of health and safety policies according to existing regulations and legislations and also in motivating of the sales
staffs based on formulation of financial and non-financial incentives for meeting of sales and profitability targets.
The retail manager is thus observed to work on a variety of tasks in a day-to-day fashion for helping in the effective
running of the retail operations1
