AI Summary
This assignment is a reflective report by a nursing student on the management of oral health in diabetic patients. The student researched the effectiveness of verbal and non-verbal oral health training, detailing their experiences, feelings, and evaluations throughout the process. The report analyzes the challenges faced, such as data collection and patient comprehension, and highlights the benefits of verbal communication. The student reflects on the research methodology, including the use of observational cohort design and randomization techniques. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of tailored communication for diabetic patients, with a preference for interactive verbal methods. The action plan outlines strategies for future improvements, such as incorporating more verbal communication and refining data collection methods. The report includes a bibliography of relevant sources.

MANAGEMENT 1
Description-
Oral health is one of the most important part of an individual’s health as it maintains the
overall health of an individual (Bengtsson, 2016). The type 1 diabetics has an impact on an
individual’s oral health as it weakens teeth and gums of the patients (Borghuis, 2016). In
recent times, Diabetics has become very common among children and people of other age
groups. With the increase in the diabetics’ cases, there has been rise in various oral
manifestations that include burning mouth syndrome, halitosis, frequent abscesses, germ
infections and periodontal diseases.
These syndromes have affected the lifestyles of an individual thus causing problems for the
patients. As a nursing student, I did the research on effectiveness of verbal and non-verbal oral
health training whether these improve the oral health of the patients or not. The preparation of
research report has been an interesting phase where I had understood about various facts and
important issues related to it.
Feelings-
Before undertaking, the research work on the topic, I felt quite nervous as whether I would be
able to accomplish my stated objectives or goals. Initially, I had problems in deciding the
research question of the project and how to relate it with the rest of the research
methodology. After I decided the right question of the research project, I got relived with the
project as I was easily able to decide various topics that come under various headings. After
that, I had to select the right technique of analyzing the data presented.
Among the various techniques of observing data, I decided to select the observational cohort
design to help observe the data in an effective manner. The observational cohort design
helped me in coming up with effective solutions to achieve the effective results. I felt thrilled
when I was able to gather the patients’ behavioral aspects and their suggestions on oral
health.
Evaluation-
During my research project, I had various good and bad experiences in preparation of the
report. Some of good experiences included was when I was able to collect the data of all the
diabetic patients thus resulting in effective creation of the sample. During my research
project, I found it very difficult to select the probability technique so that the items can be
analyzed in the best possible manner. After going through the pros and cons of all the

techniques, I was able to select randomization as the technique for probability thus resulting
effective results.
Besides, good experiences, I had various bad experiences that was during providing the oral
training sessions. In the non-verbal session, one of the patients complained that he was not
able to understand the knowledge delivered in the form of presentationso I had to bring some
changes that was incorporation of artifacts so that the patients could understand what is
taught to them. Secondly, I faced difficulties in collection of the data of diabetics’ patients so
I had to collect data by using assessment tools that include Semi-structured interview,
mucosal-plaque score and other oral health assessments. Using these tools required expertise
that I had to learn to deliver the things in the best possible manner.
Analysis-
The report preparation has been of great help as it helped me in achieving the objectives of
the research. It was the great learning experience as I learned about various techniques in
doing things. I learned about the ways in which techniques have to be incorporated. I have
achieved the knowledge of analyzing the data in the effective manner (Barry, 2012). During
the process, I have learned that how the verbal and non- verbal communication trainings can
bring changes to the target segment thus resulting in better output of various things. In the
research, I have learned various ways of doing things that was the effective techniques of
analyzing the things.
The situation helped me in becoming the effective team coordinator where I was able to build
good coordination among the team members thus leading achievement of the things in the
best possible manner. The research project was helpful in analyzing the various factors
responsible in achieving the right results thus leading to high level of understanding between
the patients and the management of the oral health in the best possible manner (Staniforth,
2016).
Conclusion(general)-
Many things can be concluded from the assignment that are oral health of an individual
depends on how a person manages it. In the case of diabetic patients, they should know how
the things have to be tackled in a manner it does not hamper their lifestyle. The analysishas
been of great help as it taught the importance of verbal communication in training the patients
about a particular lifestyle as they are more in the positions of grasping the new contents

presented to them in a creative manner (Staniforth, 2016). overall, the experience had been
learning experience where the tactics of effectively doing an experimental research were
learned.
Conclusion(specific)-
Besides, the general conclusion of the things around. Some of the specific conclusions that
were drawn from the situation were that patients preferred verbal communication over non-
verbal communication as they feel interactively connected during the training provided in
verbal mode.
It had made them achieve the right of things in an effective manner where various ways of
things can be achieved in the right ways (Bowden, 2017). According to Balan, interactive
communication is helpful for the patients or other target group to grasp new learnings in the
effective manner (Balan, 2015).
Action plan-
Some of the action plans that I would prefer doing differently next time is appointing various
methods for doing things in the best possible manner. I would try incorporating more verbal
methods of communication as it would result in better understanding of the target segment.
The knowledge would be imparted to them in a best possible and technically effective
manner.
