Project

Topic: “To study the concept of equality and diversity within the workplace
based on equality act 2010.” A project conducted on ThirdWay Company.
INTRODUCTION
Management of a business company and making it a successful organization require a high
level of skills and understanding about their dynamic nature and necessity of business
environment. In current business environment due to globalisation and high integration among
various economies and culture, the issues associated with discrimination and cultures barriers are
faced by many organizations thus, management of equality and diversity is becoming a necessity
(Abdullah and Foo, 2019). Many laws like Equality act 2010 are also formed to keep a check and
control on all kinds of biasness and discrimination exists within the business premises and
organization.
This project is basically developed and designed on the ThirdWay organisation which is a
London based medium sized commercial Real Estate company having its headquarter in London,
England having specialisation in creating an exceptional and award-winning spaces throughout
many locations of UK. The main focus of this project is on setting aims and objective together
with an appropriate project management plan. Beside this a small scale research together with
various timers frames and stage of completion is there. Further effective presentation of data and
recommendations based on findings are also consists in this project.
Project definition
The main purpose of a project management plan is to facilitate an authority to make use of
organisational resources by the manger and researcher with the aim of completing and achieving
project objectives on time (Basu, 2017). Thus, a project management plan demonstrate and lead
to effective direction and guidance for project team and help in identifying and meeting the
needs and expectation of all associated party including the customers and other stakeholders of
an organisation and facilities effective management of all activities of project from the starting
till to the effective completion of project.
The organisation selected for this project is ThirdWay Company which mainly deals in real
estate investment, architecture, technology, workplace consultancy, furniture and design-and-
build practices across the UK. Thus, a powerful mix of creative and innovative employees are

required that are full of knowledge and insatiable curiosity for having a continuous improvement
in the organisation. Therefore the main ain of this research conducted on ThirdWay Company is,
“To investigate about the importance of effective management of equality and diversity within
an organization based on the provisions of Equality act 2010.”
Problem statement
The goal of this project is conduct an effective research which includes collection of
authentic data in the provided time. But, there are many issues and problem associated with this
goal and effective completion of project that includes lack of sufficient resources and assets that
will lead to delays and consequences in completion of work (Bell and Harrison, 2018). Thus,
time restriction and insufficient resources are two biggest problems that is hindering and creating
obstacles in this research.
Project strategy
Various strategies and plans are formulated to ensure that resources are used in best
possible way in an efficient manner with minimum amount of wastage. Effective planning and
strategy formulation also lead to timely completion of task and ensures that right task is finished
at right time without any overlapping and duplication of work (Bryson, 2017). For this specific
research the project strategy includes preparation of Gantt chart and WBS structure to meet the
provided timeframes together with a conduction of a small scale research through survey method
that includes use of a questionnaire to collect primary information from the respondents and
other stakeholders of organization to formulate effective decision and recommendations on the
basis of research findings and collected data.

The objectives set for this research conducted on ThirdWay Company are as follows:
 To find out the importance of management of equality and diversity within an
organization.
 To have a better understanding about the provisions of Equality act 2010, that are
facilitating a more diversified and inclusive work environment (Buttrick, 2018). To analyse about the various strategies that can be adopted by ThirdWay company in
order to prevent discrimination and lead fairness and equality in the organisation.

The performance of any research project is associated with quality of collected data and
authenticity of information which needs to validate and a researcher must ensures that the data
collected is free from all kind of biasness and prevent use of obsolete or unauthentic secondary
data (Christian, 2019). The cost is mainly associated with the expense made of various resources
and related activity during the research. The cost associated with this research is quite low and
includes the travelling cost tighter with cost of paper printing and other communication and
presentation cost. Beside this, efforts are also made by researcher to prevent delays in work and
properly meet the provided time structures and timeframes to complete the research work in
specified duration.
Deliverables
It basically denotes the intangible or tangible end results of any project and research that
needs to be achieved on time (Doyle, 2019). The deliverables of this resrch project includes
better understanding about equality and diversity so that effective recommendations can be made
to meet the expectation of internal and external stakeholders of ThirdWay Company which
includes its shareholders, directors, managers and all other associated party.
Project scope statement
The scope of project is related and associated with what needs to be get delivered and
achieved by this research and what are the various activities are conducted to meet and achieve
the objectives on time (Gechman, 2019). Scope management is a continuous process that needs
to be gets addressed throughout the whole research of the project and includes a regular and
continuous control and monitoring over various aspects of research. The scope of this research is
wide that includes better information about the thought of equality and diversity which is
necessary to create a positive and motivated atmosphere at the workplace to meet and achieve
the desired goals and objective well on time.

Included scope
The included scope of this investigation is related to deliverables of project outcomes and
objective on time and includes a better development of understanding about equality and
diversity and how an organization can effectively achieve the target of creation of a diversified
and inclusive workforce.
Excluded scope
The excluded scope of this research is associated with better understanding of needs and
expectation of associated parties together with better knowledge about the view points and
opinion of respondents so that effective decision can be made based on the findings of
research(Hidding and Nicholas, 2017). This research will provide and yield a better
understanding about the concept of equality and diversity based on the provisions of equality act
2010. Beside this, it also created a better scope for researcher through providing better future
opportunity.
Success Criteria
The success criteria of this project include:
 Collection of most reliable and authentic and reliable data for effective decision making
based on provisions of Equality act 2010.
 Completion of all tasks and activities without any overlapping or duplication of work
with use of resources in most efficient way.
 To achieve all the objectives on time without any delay in completion of project.
Project assumption
The assumption made basically reflects the belief of a researcher and include all the
aspects that are assumed and supposed true by the researcher while doing the investigation on the
basis of experience and available information (Hillson, 2017). It mainly includes the anticipated
situations or events that are supposed and likely to occur during the research life cycle. The
assumption made for this research includes that the opinion of respondents are free from biasness
and data collected is reliable showing the true facts and information. It has been also assumed
that proper control and monitoring is maintained on resources to ensure there optimum use. Use
of best possible research methods and techniques are made with an assumption that it facilitates
timely achievement of targets and goals.

Implementation plan
For success of any project or research it is necessary to effectively execute and implement
the planning. Proper planning is necessary for any project as it lead the foundation for
implementation process and describe what to do, when to do and how to do (Huovinen, 2019).
Following implementation plan are set for this research conducted on ThirdWay Company:
 The aim and objective of the project are clearly defined and communicated to all team
members by using communication toll like email.
 The work is properly divided into small task and clearly assign to various team to reduce
the chances of confusion and chaos.
 Information about proper timeframes and duration of each task is also communicated to
ensure timely completion of work without any delay.
 Proper control measures like KPI are also used to ensure the quality check and effective
monitoring of performance of each team member and task.
Use of Work Breakdown Structure and Gantt chart are made to meet the timeframes and
clearly show the stages of completion of various task to ensure timely completion of all activities
and research.

Use of following work breakdown structure is made for this research to properly divided
the work into various groups and teams to maintain the clarity in research work and to achieve
the targets on time (Islam, 2019).

Gantt chart
Use of Gantt chart facilitates a diagrammatic or graphical representation of a research
which clearly specifies the start and end dates of each task and activity thus, lead to efficiency on
work and also reduce the chances of overlapping and duplication of work. Thus, use of following
Gantt chart is made for this research to achieve and accomplish the targets on time with adequate

Project process
Project process includes the completion of all task within the given deadlines thus, require
that all the project task are being properly completed within the timeframes set in the Gantt chart
and WBS thus, research objectives can be meet on time and project can be completed in
prescribed duration without any delay.
Communication Plans
A communication plan provides a road map and approach for effectively communicating all
the relevant findings and information with the stakeholders and associated parties of organization
(Liao and Teo, 2019). An effective communication enhances the project experience and lead to
better understanding and efficiency among team members through reducing the chances of
confusion and chaos during the investigation and also makes parties aware about the facts needed
to perform tasks in a better way. The communication plan of this research includes:
 Keeping the managers and other top authority up to date with the progress and various
activities of the research project.
 Effective communication with employees and stakeholders of the organization to
understand their opinion and beliefs in a better way.
 To maintain a good communication among the team member through making use of both
types I.e. oral and written communication channels to have team bonding and providing
proper guidance to achieve the desired objectives on time (Peters, Stanko and Merrett,
2019).
 To present the overall findings and information in an effective way to all the interested
and associated parties of ThirdWay company by making use of thematic approach and
pie charts.
Research Methodologies
It provide a set of methods that are used by a researcher for collecting, gathering,
analysing, evaluating and presenting data in an effective way during the courses of research. The
two main types of methods of conducting a research are as follows:

Use of qualitative research method is made by
researcher to collect in depth and detailed
information.
Use of quantitative method is made when data
is collected in form of numeric terms and
frequency which provide better statistical

analysis (Polonsky and Waller, 2018).
The data collected is mainly associated with
social science research and provide
information about behaviours and human
tendency of respondents.
The data collected is less generalised and
provide mere opinion of respondents instead of
in depth information.
Use of Primary inductive research method is
made to find and develop formula, theory or
other suggestion.
Use of Primary deductive research methods are
made to see and check the relevance of pre
tested information.
It is time consuming and difficult to convert
theoretical data in to tables and graph.
Numerical data can be easily converted and
presented in form of tables and charts.
Use of detailed and In-depth interviews,
Questionnaires, Focus group activities, etc are
made to gather data from this method (

Use of Surveys, interviews review of numeric
information etc are made to collect data under
quantitative research method.
For the purpose of this investigation project use of both qualitative and quantitative
research methods are made to collected information. Use of qualitative research provide in-depth
and detailed information about the nature and behaviour of respondents where as quantitative
research method lead to better presentation of collected data. Use of survey method is made
where data is collected through questionnaire to meet the objectives of research.
Advantage of survey
It provides a cost effective method to collect and gather information and also provide
flexibility to researcher to have an effective strategy as per the circumstances. Thus, survey
provides an easy way to collect and analysis the research findings without much adequate need
of scientific or background knowledge (Rapp, 2019).
Disadvantage of Survey
Collection of data with the help of questionnaire and survey is a time consuming process
thus, can lead to frustration in respondents which affects the viability and reliability of collect
data. Thus, affects the quality and authenticity of findings and decision making.
Data collections
There two main sources of data collection which are used for gathering information for this
research project which are described below:

Primary sources- This sources yield the first hand and most authentic data which is
gathered and collected by investigator through making its own personal efforts thus, provides the
most authentic and reliable data for research. Use of a questionnaire is made to by researcher to
collect information from primary sources (Rowden, 2017).
Secondary sources- This source provides access to some past and pre collected and exits
information that can be used by a researcher to support arguments of its findings. Secondary data
can be collected from literature, books, journal, past articles, records and also through online
website (Sanghera, 2019).
For collection of data for this research use of a questionnaire is made that is having 6
Quantitative close ended questions and 4 open ended qualitative questions to get and gatherer the
opinion of respondents. Use of random sampling method is made to solve the issue of biasness
in research and selection of a pre resolute number of units is made from a large population to
conduct this research in an efficient and effective way. Selection of 30 respondents are made
from stakeholders of ThirdWay company which includes its directors, mangers, employees,
clients, suppliers, customers and other related party. Following questionnaire is provided to these
individuals to have their opinion on the topic “Equality and diversity together with the provisions
of Equality act 2010.”
