Managing of Teams
The tool that I used to increase team effectiveness is the Lencioni Model of effective
teams that is used to analyze dysfunctions within teams and address them. The model suggests
that understanding the level of dysfunction within the group is the first step in developing
effective teams (Berlin, 2012). The factors that may affect or improve teamwork are arranged in
the pyramid of progression from one factor to another. The factors start from trust then lack of
conflict, then commitment, accountability and lastly results (Korner, Wirtz, Bengel, & Goritz,
2015). All members are trained to go through the five steps and make them part of their daily
process when working together.
Another tool for effective teams is empowerment. Through empowerment, teams have
the capacity to make their own decisions that affect them and the whole organization. This tool
seeks to build the capacity of every individual in being a team player. FedEx uses the strategy to
ensure that all its employees perform equal tasks within the team.
Team integration is the last tool used to create cohesive teams. Integration allows
different employees to develop social and professional bonds that shape the work that they do.
This can be achieved through team building activities that allow members to mingle and share
ideas. Further, social groups within the work environment and outside can be used to develop
cohesiveness by integrating members beyond the professional environment. With the use of the
philosophy “people-Service-Profit” builds great teams based on trust that allows the teams to
progress up the ladder and achieve the goal of the organization which is meeting customer needs
(FedEx, 2017). Therefore, the company applies team models to put people together and ensure
that they work together to achieve required goals.
