INTRODUCTION
Leader is responsible for influencing and motivating employee to work effectively and improves its performance for achievement of organisational goals. Leaders should have positive
attitude, good communication skills and ability to motivate employees for effectively coordination of individual goals with organisational goals. Various approaches used by modern leaders
to raise employee morale and motivation are as follows:
Leadership Theories and Approaches
Trait Theories: This theory includes personal characteristics of individual that differentiate it from other non-leader as it state that leaders are not made they are born. This theory states that
leadership is inherited personality traits or qualities of individual to effectively motivate employees towards achievement of organisational goals.
Behaviour theory: This theory is different from Trait theory as it emphasis that leadership qualities can be learned from environment rather than being inherent. It emphasises on specific
traits which are required to manage people in organization.
Contingency Theory: In this theory leader uses different style of management as per the situation as it stated that success of leader not only depend on its ability but it also includes many
other factors such as work environment and organization culture. In modern world it is essential leadership approaches to lead people as it helps in easy adaptation of environmental changes
and in gaining competitive advantages.
Innovative leadership: In this theory leader use innovative and creative style to motivate employees by deeply analysing situation thus helps in achievement of company vision and mission.
So, various approaches of leadership helps in effective coordination of individual goals with organisational goals by motivating employees thus help in achievement of company goals.
