Introduction
The main functions of the manager can be defined in different categories of the managerial
functions such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. The effective manger has an
understanding that how planning, organizing, leading, and controlling can be applied to get
achievements and success (Akbar, 2019). The manager is required to apply the various
managerial functions in an organisation to conduct the activities in an organisation in
effective way. The major purpose of this report to assess that how the theory is applied in a
practice. This report states the four managerial functions applied by the manager. In the
following parts, how the manager is applied planning is discussed and critically examined as
per the interview conducted with manager.
Management theory
The management’s functions such as planning, organizing, controlling, and leading put focus
on the relations between manager and the workers. They render the referencing point so that
the issues can be resolved in effective way. Considering the interview with manager, it can be
found that a planning is the toughest function among all the managerial functions. Planning
refers to the procedure of considering regarding the actions needed to get the success and
preferred targets (Foss, Foss and Klein, 2016). The planning is primary and leading action to
get predetermined goals. For the better planning, it is required that all the members of team
should take participation actively. It has particular procedure and is essential for various
professions (Kobayashi, et. al, 2015).
Observation
As per the interview conducted with manager, it can be observed that the manager has great
role in planning. The manager is planner. The planning permits the manager to decide the
goal and describe the resources of getting them. The manger plays important role in creating
ownership of the planning and make a team. The manager plans that how to get the specific
target. The first requirement of the manager is to take the decision that which steps are to be
taken to complete that target. The steps can involve enhancing advertisements, inventories,
and team of sales. The manager develops these steps in the planning. While the planning is in

structure on management in effective manner. The manager spends the time in overseeing the
departments or the sectors of workers in the organisation. It is important to oversee the
functions of department for the better implementation of planning. Functioning with the
manager is the achievement. The reason is that it discovers the capacity of the professional to
successfully plan and lead, supervise the various operations related to business, handle
trauma, and properly interact with the colleagues.
Furthermore, the manager stated that the manager has to face various challenges during his or
her tasks and activities. The challenges include proper interaction with the workers, no
buffers, stress to do act as new manager, managing the time, change the mind according to
the new expectations and roles. To involve in proper planning, the unrealistic expectations
are biggest challenge for the manager. For an instance, in a case where an organisation has
had the past of 11 per cent growth per annum for previous years, and the financial
components do not point any type of improvement to growth rate, then struggling to get
twenty per cent growth is not realistic. Additionally, in absence of buffers, the manager has to
face difficulties. The business planning always must have the buffers to permit room for
errors related to procedure (Bouty and Drucker-Godard, 2018)
Evaluation or interpretation
As stated by manager, it is observed that the manager has implemented planning in proper
way to get pre-determined goals (Vionea, 2015). The manager takes effective decisions to use
and allocate the resources effectively and efficiently. However, it is required by the manager
to evaluate the planning for better implementation in future. There are various challenges in
implementing the planning. For that reason, the manager should find the better approaches
and strategies to resolve these issues or challenges. It is required by the manager to ensure an
place, then the manager may adopt this to complete the target to improve the sales of
