Business planning is something that organisation takes time and do well (Daft and Marcic,
2016). Yet it is not necessary that it goes right, similarly, it happened to me, I as a manger of
XYZ hotel was given responsibility to do planning, organising, leading and controlling,
regarding the event of fresher party. Right from the setting up the plans, organising the entire
function, leading the team for the best performances and lastly, keeping under the entire event
under control so that the guest should not face any of the issue regarding management.
Planning regarding the event was on clear basis, the entire layout was discussed with the
teams and some interns who had an experienced for about six months. The main problem for
the failure of the event was the inefficiency of the interns to effectively communicate among
themselves and developing misconceptions and ambiguous situations. Due to all these
reasons, they were unable to handle the situation and the work, which were assigned to them
(American management association, 2019).

Planning the major problem arise when I planned to involve interns in this event as per their
training sessions. I thought they had an experience of about six months and the layout was
discussed with them. However, the performances and the working got disturbed when they
get confused that to which what particular activity has to perform. Due to all this, entire team
was affected.
Organising: I organised this entire party right from the decoration, catering arrangements,
room services, and room amenities. Prepared my staff to how to perform, supervising them.
Nevertheless, due to the ineffective communication they team was unable to implement what

was told to them and due to this, the entire planned activity was disturbed due to the ill
performance of the interns (Bolden, 2016).
Leadership: As a leader, I established a relationship with team in order to access their
strength. My duty was to delegate proper function that suits and affect the productivity of the
team. However, planning to involve interns was a wrong decision as a leader as they are not
efficient enough to perform better (Bolden, 2016).
Controlling: We all know that planning and controlling goes hand in hand. It was obvious
that I allowed my interns to perform, and due to the ill prepared planning, the entire party
controlling got disturbed. Team was very ineffective while performing their task due to the
confusion, which was, aroused that which person has to perform what (Leonard, 2018).
According to my analysis, I was not an effective approach. The entire problematic situation
arose due to the lack of proper planning. Possible alternative actions are to give more training
to the interns. Moreover, if one plan fails, earlier we should prepare the backup plans for the
effective results. Furthermore, I need to work on my planning strategies so that the assigned
work should generate positive and effective results. Yes! These alternatives could bring
positive results because on both the ground the changes are prepared. For intern, more of
training is needed and for me I learned to work on my planning skills.
