Managing Project Changes: Part A- Reply Post
Yes, I agree with your comment at it is necessary for the project manager to possess
and show their skills and experiences related to management of a project. It is the duty of a
project manager to manage the specifications, functionalities and the changes needed in a
project. Change management is another important requirement of project management that
ensure delivery of a successful project (Hayes, 2018). However, you are partially correct in
stating that change management gives huge benefits to the organization. Benefits can only be
realized if the change management is executed in a planned and in a successful manner.
Ineffective change management often leads to project failure (Pollack, 2016).
You have quite effectively identified the key changes needed in the Blue Spider
project. The project manager was inexperienced and spent maximum time in R&D activities.
Apart from that there were issues with planning and scheduling the entire project, which was
needed to be changed as well. The entire project execution approach was wrong that lead to
delay in certain crucial activities if the project. Along with that changes you have highlighted,
one key change that was needed in the Blue Spider project was the need of changing the
material of the product to be developed. This was a significant change that was needed in the
Blue spider project and this particular change was needed to be managed in an effective
manner. The presence of these issues in the project was one key reason behind the failure of
the Blue Spider project.
