AI Summary
This report provides an overview of project management, focusing on a real-world example of bridge construction to illustrate key concepts. It outlines the reasons for choosing the project, emphasizing the enhancement of knowledge in construction projects, and details the key objectives, such as rerouting traffic and increasing road area. The report identifies the critical stages in project management, including need identification, traffic assessment, location study, cost analysis, project report development, implementation, alternative analysis, preliminary design, and raw material procurement. It also includes a work breakdown structure with timelines, breaking the project into smaller, manageable components for effective tracking and management. The report concludes by referencing relevant books and journals used in its preparation. Desklib provides solved assignments for students.

INTRODUCTION
Project management can be defined as the application of the different processes, methods,
skills, knowledge as well as experience in order to achieve specific project objectives (Shaktawat
and Vadhera, 2021). It can be said that project management is important because it ensures that
the different parts of the project run smoothly and helps the members of the team to stay
committed to the project. The report will explain a real-life topic for the project, reasons for
choosing this project, objectives of the proposal as well as the key stages in the process of project
management.
Overview of the project
The project that will be considered for this report is the construction of a bridge that will
be undertaken in a time duration of 1 year. The project will require a number of different raw
materials and will ensure that the traffic is diverted from the point where currently, the traffic
gets stuck (Vignieri, 2021). Different raw materials will be required in large quantities to make
sure that adequate supply of the materials is available during the project. The different materials
will include concrete, structural steel, stone, asphalt, iron etc.
Reasons for choosing the topic
The primary reason for choosing this topic is to enhance my overall knowledge about the
different construction projects that are undertaken. This is because I have an interest in
construction and I think that doing a project on the respective topic will help me in not only
enhancing my knowledge, but also making sure that the I am able to implement these skills as
well as knowledge in the future.

Key Objectives
The key objectives of this project include diverting the traffic from the main road to
ensure that the heavy traffic on the road is rerouted and diverted. Also, the area of the current
location, which is the main road, for the construction of the bridge is not sufficient. Construction
of a bridge will not only help the traffic to move smoothly but also, ensure that the overall area
of the road is also increased.
Key stages in the process of project management
The different key stages in the process of the respective project will include identifying
the need for constructing the bridge (Wong, Whelan and Holdsworth, 2021). The next stage will
involve assessing the traffic as well as studying the location where the bridge has to be
constructed. Apart from this, the other stages will include analysing the costs, developing a
detailed project report, implementation, analysing the alternatives, developing a preliminary
design as well as raw materials. The project will be initiated and the construction of the project
will be completed in 8 months. The second last stage will be to test functioning of the bridge as
well as monitoring and control of the different activities of the project.
Work breakdown structure along with timelines
In project management, a work breakdown structure can be defined as a breakdown of
the project into smaller as well as manageable components. It helps in organizing the different
activities of the project in an effective way so that the project manager is able to track the
different tasks properly. The Work Breakdown Structure along with the timelines for different
activities for the respective project is as follows -
