This thesis investigates the critical issue of seafarer shortage in the international shipping industry, focusing on the challenges faced by recruitment company X Marine Ltd. The research begins by establishing research objectives and questions to assess the manpower shortage. It then examines the existing literature, highlighting the lack of safety, negative perceptions among young job candidates, and issues with training and social life. The methodology includes primary data collection through surveys with seafarers and interviews with shipping industry managers. Findings reveal inadequate training, lack of appraisal benefits, and social life disturbances as key factors influencing seafarer shortages. The study concludes with recommendations for improving working conditions, job security, training, and social welfare to attract and retain seafarers. The thesis also includes a literature review, research methodology, findings, data analysis, conclusion, and recommendations. The research also touches on the impact of technology and offers strategies for improvement.
