1MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF IPHONE X
Manufacturing Process of iPhone X:
IPhone X was the flagship mobile phone by Apple of 2017. The manufacturing
process of the iPhone X was discontinued by Apple in September 2018 as Apple announced
its successor mobile phones (Stone, 2018). However due to some reasons the production line
of iPhone again started by Apple.
In this type of manufacturing processes planning is an essential parts and a proper
manufacturing plan was also required for the iPhone X which was addressed by Apple. Since,
Apple only designs and sells iPhone and it does not manufacture any of the parts of it was
very much essential for the Apple to selecting parts manufacturers around the world for their
iPhones. In this planning phase of the iPhone X Apple has partnered with various of
organization which was specialised in some particular components so that best hardware can
be utilised for the manufacturing of the iPhone X. Also, assembly point of this parts has been
decided by Apple in this planning stage (Pogue, 2018). Some of the important partners of
Apple was Samsung, Qualcomm, Toshiba, Sony, TSMC, Broadcom and LG. This parts were
assembled and made ready for the commercial usage by mainly Foxconn on contractual basis.
The manufacturing schedule is also very much important in this case. As per the
planning of the manufacturing of iPhone X initially the schedule for manufacturing the
iPhone X were kept short by the Apple so that they can make more amount of phone at the
same time. To keep this time required for the manufacturing of the phones Apple optimised
the production process. The workload of the manufacturing was controlled, arranged and
optimised by Apple by adding more workers and manufacturing units as Apple anticipated it
previously there will be huge demand of the iPhone X compared to the other iPhones. This is
a perfect example of scheduling the manufacturing process of the iPhone X.

Proper support also need to be provided to the production line for an optimised and
better manufacturing process. While Foxconn was working on the production line of the
iPhone X there are various of phones that was work in progress state and required some
storage. In house facility was allotted for storage related solution of the work in progress
phones. Transportation also played an important role in this case. Two way transportation
was utilised by the production line of iPhone X, where one group was working on delivering
iPhone X components that made by other organizations and other group was working on
transporting finished goods to the consumer market (Gunasekera, & Thomas, 2019).
Handling of the sensitive raw materials was also important for the manufacturing process
which was done by Foxconn by selecting best of their workers at the sensitive parts handling
site. Also the time phasing is utilised properly in this manufacturing process so there is no
shortage of raw materials and effective transportation helped in this case which was done
through mostly by the trucks and ships. The manufacturing process of iPhone X also
achieved its maximum flexibility in case of geographical operations for supply of the raw
materials and distribution of the finished goods. For the Asian region China was chosen as a
manufacturing hub due to its geographic region (Bud, 2018). Also infrastructure of China is
also very much high helped Apple in this case. In China importing of the raw materials is
very much easy and also due to its geographic accessibility distribution of the finished was
very much easy in the Asian market where US was chosen as the manufacturing hub for the
North America continent for the same reason.
