Brief Proposal
The proposal of the Maori business is based on the concept of a BookCoffee whereby the
world`s best coffee will be sourced and presented at a Café which will based on the idea of a
book store and a café. This business concept will help the Maori economy in engaging in the
business operations of restaurant and get involved in the modern dynamics of business.
Introduction
In order to conduct an expansion of the business, it becomes considerably crucial for the
investors that they are successfully able to engage in the overall inspection of the economy
where they will be investing in and also conduct an analysis of the different forces lying in the
business environment which will go a long way in ensuring that the business is able to attain
long term success (Amoamo, Ruckstuhl & Ruwhiu, 2018). Hence, the primary aim of the given
report can be stated to be the analysis of the Maori economy as per the case study which has
been provided. The report will throw light on the overall performance of the Maori economy, the
entrepreneurs and the manner in which the economy has been progressing accordingly. Certain
recommendations to expand the operations in the particular economy have also been provided.
Discussion
Maori business
A Maori business can be defined as a business which is generally owned by a Maori and
may be staffed by staff who are Maori as well. Most importantly, the business will have a strong
Maori culture as well as tikanga (Pool, 2015). In addition to this, it may also be under its overall
agenda to support the Maori outcomes and ensure that their society is able to sustain itself. These
businesses make use of original customs along with applying the modern technologies and

related amenities. These business enterprises are not solely based on profit motive but also based
on the overall welfare of their society at large.
Maori economy
The Maori economy is greatly classified into the assets as well as the incomes which
have been earned by the Maori. It comprises of the collectively owned trusts and incorporations
which are owned by the businesses as well as the service providers. According to Petrie (2002),
the Maoris are allowed to express their collective interests and aspirations in a Maori economy.
Moreover, the Maori economy can be stated to be a great contributor to the economy of New
Zealand and with respect to this, it can be mentioned that its contribution to the overall GDP of
the economy can be stated to be considerably high. The economy is involved in a large number
and types of business like increasing investment, increasing ownership, development of the
business, tourism and hospitality along with others.
Maori entrepreneur
The Maori entrepreneur can be described as an individual who through his efforts as well
as behavior reflects on a consistent strength and reflects upon the opportunity to make things
happen (Schaniel, 2001). There have been various Maori entrepreneurs throughout who have
shown considerable success through their ability to develop the different opportunities through
the procedure of planning as well as leadership. They believe in undertaking actions to make
things happen. They also tend to make use of the principles of Mana, Ata, Arataki and others to
build the model and ensure that, their organizations are successful in the long run of the business
(Warren, Mika & Palmer, 2017).

Drivers of Maori entrepreneurship and significance
Some of the key aspects of the Maori business can be stated to be very similar in nature
to the non-Maori businesses. It can also be stated that, there also exist various aspects whereby
the businesses may differ in nature and some of the key aspects and drivers of the Maori
economy and business can be stated to be as follows:
Legislative
The Maori businesses are expected to comply by the New Zealand laws and related
legislatives with special acts and laws like the Māori Reserved Lands Act (1997), The Ture
Whenua Māori Act (1993), and the Māori Fisheries Act (2004) which are specialized rules and
quotas for the Maori business houses (Schaniel, 2001).
Culture and values
The culture and values of the organizations greatly differ and the business carries out its
operations in less visible ways. Although the businesses may appear like Non Maori business
only but they tend to operate values of Manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and tuhonotangaion in
their thinking.
Opportunities and Growth of the economy
It can be stated that the Maori business and economy has been growing considerably with
various opportunities for the future society (O'Sullivan & Dana, 2008). Currently, the Maori
economy forms a considerable part of the organizations and in the future also it is expected that,
the economy will be growing considerably and the businesses will become more popular in
nature.

stated to be as follows:

only set up to make a profit but assist the society as well (Bargh, 2018). In order to survive,
many of these businesses are financially viable with a certain level of social as well as cultural
aspirations as given by the owners for their core purpose. In addition to this, it is also required to
understand that these organizations will be required to trade commercially and measure
themselves against the economic indicators and the creation of wealth is no seen as an end to
