INTRODUCTION
Health is an important aspect for every individual to stay wealthy. Various hospitals and
health care sectors are there to solve health related problems of the people. Doctors , nurses and
other co-workers plays a vital role in serving the patients to recover them as soon as possible.
The given case study is related to the patient named Marjorie Templeton who is admitted to The
Canberra Hospital , Australia for the treatment of foot ulcer. In this assignment , the role of
nurses is been elaborated.
Case Study
In the given case, the patient is suffering from foot ulcer. After admitting him to the
hospital the primary survey was conducted in which it was found that his condition is unstable
because he is a diabetic patient and his immune system is not that strong. Before giving any kind
of treatment , it is important to record the surgical or medical history of the patient in which it
was clearly examined that he is also suffering from hypertension and arthritis. Then , the primary
assessment of his breathing, colour, circulation , conscious state, skin etc. is done to take further
appropriate steps to heal him (Holloway and Galvin, 2016). Investigations are done after this like
specimen collection etc. to find out the stage of the ulcer. It was found that his ulcer is infected.
Unstable blood sugar level is also one of the reason behind this. Normal pain killers like
paracetamol were given to him just after he has been admitted to relieve the pain. But, later on
complete diagnosis is done, fluid balance chart of the body, nutrition investigations ,bowel chart ,
sleep hours etc. to take the suitable steps according to the need of the patients.
To treat any patient nurses plays a significant role. In the above case the patients is
having the problem because of the infection. Therefore, the nurses working over there have to
take the steps after considering several evidences to support the patient in a relevant manner. To
support the care provided, following three evidences of the same hospital are taken into account.
Evidence 1
Few weeks back , a patient was admitted who was suffering from skin problem. He was
having large red patches over his whole body in proximity. After diagnosis it was found that , he
had this kind of problem because of the food infection. Then , the medication was given to him
according to that (Alligood, 2017).
In the above case also the person is suffering from the ulcer which was infected. To deal
with the same , his nutrition or food intake investigation is carried out to find out that whether he

is having this because of the certain kind of food stuff or not. It was found that his glucose level
is higher because of more juice intake . To level the same the proper diet chart is recommended
to the patient. Nurses serves the patient according to the same to avoid any kind of hike in the
sugar levels. This way we can say the proper measures are taken for him.
Evidence 2
Few days before, a patient suffering from the infection because of the unhygienic
dressing practices over the wound was admitted. After dealing with that evidence, proper first aid
is provided to the patient Marjorie Templeton, like new safety kit, dressing kit, etc. to avoid any
kind of infection due to the dirt present over the cotton or any other strips. In this way this
evidence is also related to the treatment being given to the patient to recover him as soon as
possible by providing proper medication. In this way, nurses are taking care of the patient's
safety and health (Butcher and et.al., 2018).
Evidence 3
A patient was admitted one month back who was firstly admitted in a another hospital for
a surgery. But without diagnosis of the patients health ,like, blood pressure, sugar level, they had
given the medication. Due to this , the condition of the patient became worsen . After this, the
patient was admitted in this hospital , where it was found that he had a problem of high blood
pressure. The surgery was done after the blood pressure got normal to ensure the safety of the
patient.
In the above case also, first of all the normal rates are first analysed and the treatment for
the ulcer is done only after the sugar level comes out to be the normal. In this way the nurses and
doctors are serving in the best possible manner to serve the patients.
Now ,we can say that the patient is given the appropriate treatment. Nurses plays a vital
role to recover the patients as soon as possible (Morton and et.al., 2017). They try to understand
the condition of the patient at first to find out the reason behind the problem. Then , with the help
of their experiences , they use the relevant practices according to the needs of the patients. This
is done to ensure safe and high quality care for the patients. They try to make a proper health
care chart for the patients to assist in their healthy treatment. Nurses try to meet the needs of the
patients including all kinds of needs like, physical, emotional, social, spiritual etc. In this way ,
they try to provide friendly ambience to the patients so that they can feel confident about the
treatment been given to them.

In the given case , the patient is diabetic. For the proper treatment of them it is important
to consider the pre-medication before giving any treatment for the ulcer. The same is done by the
practitioner over there. Hygienic practices have to be kept in mind for the same. This will be
helpful for effective dressing over the wound. The care takers have to be cautious about the
same. Food intake has to be proper which can be made effective by giving proper diet plan to the
patients.
Communication skills plays a major role in this. They have to interact with the patients in
an appropriate manner. The reason behind the benefits of healthy relationship is that with the
help of this patients can share each and every thing with the nurses if they are not feeling
comfortable (Giger, 2016). After listening to them , the nurses can communicate the same with
the doctors, if the patient is in the need to change the medication since they are having side
effects. In this way, communication between the nurses and the patient is also important.
The nurses have to stay keep and clam if the patient is behaving in an annoying manner.
Due to their illness, they can do so, but nurses have to be smart while tackling the patients. They
have that patient level to bear all kinds of actions done by the patients.
They play a major role to give the timely medication , dressings, etc. The same is done by
the nurses for the patient Marjorie Templeton to recover his injury. Nurses try to team up with
with the health care committee to provide best services for the patients. They try to implement
the best individualised, evidence based care plan for the patients as is done for the patient
admitted in the given case. They try to educate and coach the patients about the measure to be
taken to recover as soon as possible. They try to address healthy lifestyle choices , symptoms of
the problems etc. to the patients because always the prevention is better than cure. They try to
follow all kinds of rules and regulations being implemented in the premises while treating the
patients (Wagner and et.al., 2018). This way they take care of the complete safety of an
individual.
In the given case also, the nurses are trying to provide timely medication to the patient
along with the proper nutrition to heal him as soon as possible.
CONCLUSION
To conclude we can say that nurses plays a vital role to recover the patient from their
illness. They try to provide them with appropriate medication and care plans to let the patient
stay healthy. One has to follows the direction given by the nurses for fast recovery.
