Self reflection for career development
For becoming marketing manager there is requirement of having some skills such as
communication, motivation, decision making and others. I want to develop my career and get
employment opportunity as marketing manager in well known as reputed company. For getting
employment opportunity and developing career I need to identify my own strengths and
weaknesses (E-portfolio, 2019). By identifying own strengths and weaknesses I can make an
effective strategy for improving strength. It can be better known with the help of Gibbs reflective
model such as:
Description: I want to describe and discuss my experience that I felt while working in previous
company as marketing assistant. While working as marketing assistant I found that I have an
effective team working skills and I prefer to work in team because I believe that team working
increases skills and knowledge of individual. Team working not only increases skills but also
improves relation and I also believe that it is important to interact with other functional
department for providing information to them and also for gathering information whatever they
have about customers. Rather, team working I have decision making skill and with the help of
this skill I can take better decision regarding targeting and segmenting customers and it can save
time as well as cost (Tawanwongsri and Phenwan, 2019). For better decision, there is
requirement of having critical analysis skill as by analysing anything in both positive and
negative manner and it can help company in improving decision.
Feeling: I feel that I have some skills that can help me out in my both personal and professional
field. In regards to strengths, I feel and experiences while working in previous company that I
have technical proficiency skills. This skill can make me able to research and development and
by making use of internet, new technologies I can make my functions and tasks easier. I also felt
that career in marketing can improve my communication and other skills because we have to
meet with different stakeholders and main responsibility of marketer is increasing sales by

communicating and developing ideas of promoting products. On the other hand I believe and
experienced that I lack in time management skills as at once I can do only one task. I take too
much time in completing functions with perfection but marketer requires having multi tasking
and time management skills because they have to perform several tasks (Toma, Grădinaru and
Iordache, 2020).
Evaluation: Getting employment opportunity as marketing manager in retail industry is
my interest because marketing manager is well known with market trends and update with all
information. There are several other profession but I think that the main key of success of
organization is marketing function. Marketer focuses on research and development and collect
information about customers, deals with different behaviour of customers and I like to talk with
different behaviour of customers. I evaluated and found that my skill and ability of adapting
changes and communicating with different behaviour of nature can help me out in gathering
information. I also found that I have an integrity or ability to understand human behaviour and
needs and it is also essential for providing qualitative products and satisfying needs of customers.
Analysis: I analysed my skills as well as weaknesses that can help me out in the future in
career development as marketing manager. By analysing weaknesses I can make use of effective
action plan and strategy for reducing all weaknesses and improving strengths. With analysis I
found that I lack in time management as well as adaptability. I become frustrated and hesitated
when any changes happen in business environmental factors (Alrubaish, 2018). I take time in
changing my ways of performing because of lack of flexibility. But I strongly believe that in this
digital era it is important of having flexibility or ability to adapt changes. One of the main
examples of changes that may affect overall performance of individuals and company is Covid-
19. Those people and organizations that have this ability are more likely to continue their work
without getting affected to great extent. So, I require improving time management and flexibility
skill. I also require focusing on numerical skills. Numeracy skills can help us out in solving
critical problems, making sense of numbers and shaping activities like analysing gathering
information and others So, overall I can says that I need to focus on all these skills for
developing career and getting employment opportunity as marketing manager in retail industry.
On the other side, I analysed and found that I am good in communication and creativity
skills. Both these skills play a vital role and can make marketer successful. Communication is the
main key of success because for promoting products and making people aware about products

there is requirement of interacting with people in a manner that can influence them. An ability to
influence people can help me out in attracting target people and motivate them for buying
products. In addition, creativity can also make me able in satisfying customers and helping out
company in taking advantages of competition. Creativity in products and ways of gathering
information can attract customers and people prefer to buy products from companies that provide
unique and attractive services.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that marketing is one of the best field in which people can
make their career in an effective manner. By developing career in marketing, I can get different
other employment and advantages of other opportunities. An effective marketer or marketing
manager requires having several skills and all these skills such as communication, decision
making, problem solving, integrity, time management and others can help in accomplishing
goals and helping out company in increasing sales.
Action plan: There are several strategies that can help me out in increasing skills and reducing
all weaknesses. I found that I am lacking in time management and flexibility skills so, I require
making use of strategies for improving both these skills. I believe that professional development
plan is one of the best ways that can help me out in improving both skills. Professional
development plan allows us in identifying appropriate resources as per the skills and by making
use of tools and resources we can increase skills (Gau, 2019).

tool help in making an effective time table and prioritizing main tasks
and with the help of this tool and following all guidelines, time

It is believed that procrastination is one of the main barriers in time
management skills so, by reducing procrastination and completing
task on the same day can also help out in increasing this skill.

Flexibility An ability adapt changes can only be improved by working on 1 month

ourselves. For this skill, it is important to take help of seniors and
peers and knowing ways of increasing this skill ad adapting changes
without getting affected. It is also found that some tools like Lacrosse
ball, stick roller can also help in increasing ability to adapt changes in
an effective manner. So, by working on us and boosting confidence,
this skill can be improved (Rubens and et.al.,2018).
Numerical It is believed that games play a vital role in increasing numeracy skills
and it increases skills and developing min. By making use of such
tools and spending at least 1 hour daily, this skill can be increased.
Chunk, Partition and grid pattern can also help out in increasing
numeracy skill and taking better decision.
