INTRODUCTION
Business refers to the activities which are professional and commercial in which a company is
focused to earn money and goodwill in the market. There are also some non profit organisations
which works to accomplish social causes. The following report is based on company Marks and
Spencer, which is a British brand focuses on selling food, home and clothing products and this
report will cover the role of marketing, finance, Human resource and operations.
TASK
Role of M&S, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and operation departments:
Marketing is one of the primarily and major function on which growth of the firm depends.
Marks and Spencer marketing department, advertise their products and services through various
ways (Lind, Magnus, and Kelly Barner, 2018). They majorly prefer to advertise their products
through different online portals that is the best way to target the potential audience and it is also
cost effective which gives better results shorter time span then traditional way of marketing and
it also assist company in enhancing their brand value and their revenues.
In the business operations of Marks and Spencer its financial department which plays a very
crucial role in smooth working of the organisation (Valenzuela, et. al., 2017). Employers of the
respected department carefully record every transaction of the business in their books that can
tell the quarterly or annual progress of the company by keeping all the entries related to sales,
purchase of raw materials, buying a assets etc (Wang, 2017). and it is also very essential for
M&S as this department helps in decision making for the future.
Moreover, Marks and Spencer's human resource department have the important role as they have
to hire skilled employees according to their qualification for different department which can lead
to long term success of the business. Company's human resource management is the reason for
the motivation in their employees as their managers use different strategies to keep their
employees motivated and productive (Balducci, and Marinova, 2018).
Furthermore, Marks and Spencer have a strong production management department which
focuses on maintaining quality standard of their products by spending lowest amount that helps
in increasing margins in every sales which can leads firm to increase their profits.
In the organisation of Marks and Spencer, several departments play their key roles in order to
make sure that the business functions in effective manner. Financial department provides support

to all the department of the organisation and allocates fund to ensure effectiveness. The and
human resources department utilises these allocated resources and put them to use by hiring
capable individuals (Al-Minhas, Ndubisi, and Barrane, 2020). Moreover, these resources assist
marketing department to develop effective marketing to promote products and services of the
organisation.
CONCLUSION
As per the above essay it is concluded that for the smooth functioning of the business, it needs to
focus on all its various departments to make sure that they operate in effective way in order to
accomplish organisational goal and objectives. Moreover, these departments in the company
should communicate and allocate resources with each other to increase their productivity and
efficiency which will lead to organisational growth.
